Why would Freo give up 2 firsts for Logan? Cameron 6 years ago maybe - probably be better to use the firsts on decent kids. If it was Freo playing tonight and someone like Treacy played that game The Worst would be calling it "a pathetic effort" and calling for him to be dropped. I reckon people have stars in their eyes when it comes to a kid from the West playing for an Eastern States team - a sign of desperation rather than building your own list . . .
adding more kids to our already young list doesnt move the needle for us, weve drafted soundly for years now, time to bring in some mature talent instead of having to wait years for players to develop

Wouldn't be basing anything on Logan after that game.

Horrible for KPP all round. Humidity + first game back. Slippery ball and hands, skills rusty, small ground with not a lot of room for separation.

Cant agree with this more!!!

I think we can carry a teenage half forward/small forward or half back to base their immediate game on being very fast and good with the footy. We need the ball brought to ground and they are in the game
yeh the only exception would be if we could trade up to bring in a kozi/rankine/rachelle type forward who can impact early days, we lucked out big time with amiss being as good as he is so quickly. imagine we still had to primarily rely on tabs as no 1 KPF....

Here's how I would look at McDonald. Frankly, the forwardline needs class and Treacy is in the same class as Emmett and Switta. McDonald will be an upgrade on Treacy and so long as we pay a price that at least somewhat reflects his performance to date, more class is more class. McDonald starts getting the third defender if he plays for us...

We are going to have another first to address small forward class and a 2nd to pick up a decent runner off the half back. Personally, I'm still massive on Stanley and love him off the half back, I'm hoping by the end of the year either through dominating at Peel or getting back to the AFL side (he's actually debuted already remember), we arent too concerned about the runners off the half backline. Williams, if he can put just a bit of size could be very good coming off there as well. Getting Chapman and/or Draper into the team will also help with ball movement from back there. I'm positive someone out of Davies, Draper and Murphy can cover Pearce when he retires

I also couldnt give two shits about the wing, Noddy (it looks like his running is back), Sharp and Johnson through there are fine. Can address the wing with a rookie pick really.

The mids just need to be organised better. Serong, Brayshaw, Johnson, Erasmus, Simpson, Darcy and Jackson is well and truly a good enough core group. When we **** up again sometime down the road, use a top 10 pick to rejuvinate it again but we do not need another top 10 pick sitting at Peel not getting a look in anytime soon

So priorities to me are
1) Forward class - we have none bar Amiss frankly, we need both a tall and small
2) Runners and pace back of centre

That’s what most of us want. A top 15 pick small forward that could kick 25 goals or so by year 2 and add class while still improving.
Weightman, Rachele, Pickett, just some of the recent examples of guys taken in that pick 6-14 range of the draft. That kind of playwr should be in the best 22 by round 3 or 4 next year.

Key forwards from last night. (Yeah, Fritsch kicked 4, but he's a medium).

McClean the best playing as second ruck. A few more games like this however, and the swans can have the closest to second round pick for him.

Agree with you on the lack for forward class. But I wouldn’t be so sure on these wingers either… I reckon we need at least one half decent one. You can get a very good winger with a teens pick in the draft, key forward - not as certain in that range.

Hard to believe Josh Schache still getting a game at AFL level..

I think Chad Warner will frustrate whichever team wins his signature as he blazes away by foot. Serong has it but we didn't trade two firsts to bring him across, so we are patient.

But Chad most effective kicks are the long bombs to space

It wouldn't frustrate me watching him blaze away after busting tackles and breaking lines. Many of those long bombs sail through the big sticks as well. Not sure why you are bringing up Serong, cause the two are nothing like each other.

I dunno I feel we have an opportunity to fill multiple gaps in our list with the first rounders and spending them all on Logan would be a waste.

If we could get away with just spending one then I'd be down for it
To me, this is the big appeal of Zurhaar.

Fill a hole, with out giving up picks.

There is a difference between first rounders and late first rounders. Say our Pick is what around 7 (hope this isnt the case) then that and something else for Mcdonald isnt bad. The other 2 first rounders are likely gonna be 15 plus so at that point the draft becomes a bit of a lottery.

Agree except I don’t think the midfield is good enough. We lack the big power mid/forward type - Petracca, De Goey type. Our mids are a bit blue collar, especially if we’re being led by Brayshaw and Serong. Johnson and Ras still unproven. Would give all the pics and a starting mid for Back Page Harley from down the road.

You just dont get to find them everyday though. Either Jackson becomes that player, we get extremely lucky or we make do without

Meh, can find a winger whenever wherever. We keep finding half decent ones for very cheap

Because Serong has the same issue kicking to targets inside fifty.

Young will be that player, 5 shots on goal in the Port Scratchie says he’s not far away.

Yeah I'm all for using the picks to trade for players, just maybe not 2 or 3 just for 1 player

Honestly we complain about Hughes/Banfield but almost every team has spuds playing for them, especially the ones that aren’t quite best 22 but quite often play due to injuries and them being a semi-experienced depth option.

Schache is genuinely terrible and plays a much more important position than Hughes or Banfield ever have.

Why do we need to pay pick 5, if he is not worth it?

Surely this would be stupid. We can pay what we want, and Sydney can take it or walk him to the PSD.

The question I have is, which is better.

Zurhaar and 3 first round picks.
McDonald and 1 (maybe 2 if he struggles this year) first round pick.

For me it is clear, that Zurhaar and 3 first round picks is way better.

For me it isn’t way better IF we use that one first rounder on a small forward.

Getting a KPF that’s ready to play in a premiership team in 3-4 years would almost be a miracle whilst if a small forward isn’t ready to play a big part in that timeframe you’ve almost got to consider whether they ever will be.

I think we probably need to upgrade Treacy and find a gun small forward to win a premiership. I don’t think Treacy is so bad that a second or third year KPF will be better than him though unless we somehow end up with a top two pick and a competition-wide generational talent.
