Can a player in an NGA tell the club they are linked to they don't want to be taken? If I were in the Eagles NGA right now I'd be saying thanks but no thanks.

I believe they can, the form seeks consent from a player and its why one club gets to nominate a player qualifying under multiple pathways, such as Father Son picks and Academy overlap.

I don't think any player would though

Out of curiosity, am I the only one who isn't fussed about getting or missing Warner? Have said for years he's overrated and I still believe this.

I think he'd compliment our midfield nicely, but I also don't think he's worth crazy money.

I am ambivalent about most of the trade targets, but I acknowledge that we should be trying to force trades with our draft picks without getting ripped off. Warner is a good player and I don't have an issue in slightly overpaying for him, because those draft picks will probably take ages before they hit AFL level and it takes a clearly best 18 player out of a premiership rival. But if we can't make it happen then I am not going to be fussed.

Lachie Scholl fell under this set of rules didn't he?

I think the best example is Marc Murphy, should have been a father son to Brisbane but said no.

Dunkley to Sydney similar.

Blakey was a father son to North before Sydney got him in their academy. They were campaigning for him quite a while before the choice was made.

What was the deal with Walker? Wasn’t really following the draft that year. Was he expected to go higher or was 50 about where everyone expected him to go?
Expected to go a little bit higher tbh

like 30-50 range (this was before the changes though, he was always coming to us)

When we moved up the draft to pick NOD, the people covering the draft talked about how that was a smart move to get ahead of a potential Walker bid. Maybe teams from then on thought there was little point being campaigners and bidding high on someone they weren't getting (not that it stopped Carlton with Henry somehow getting bid higher than Tom Green).

Good call, I forgot Walker went at pick 50 and Draper was a Cat B rookie. Walls does so well with late and speculative picks. But still, not being able to bid on our NGA picks until so late is rubbish
We have had a lot more late NGA failures than successes though. Scaife got picked up by hawks but I don’t believe anyone else has had any success in even the WAFL

Watching Dogs today I wasn't coveting any of Sydney's assets.
If someone wants to come, let's have a chat.
Make your case.
I really like what we've got.

I've happened to watch the last 4 Sydney games and tbh I don't disagree.

He has absolutely taken us and some other teams apart but drifts in and out of games and week to week you're not sure what you're getting.

That said he's really the exact player the midfield lacks. Pace and kicks goals. I think he'd almost be better in our team than Sydney.

If we don't break the bank and we aren't giving up more than 2 mid/late firsts then absolutely let's get him.

He also did it in a GF while the rest of the team got flogged, so recon he’ll be fine in big moments.

Warner is not the main man, he is the cream and capitalises off his midfield work just like Bolton does. He can be extremely lethal if you give him the supply. Although saying that he is only 23 and still a few years away from his prime which is the most exciting part.

Noticed this a bit, he cheats forward of the contest, banking on the other mids to win it.

With serong and bray in there to to do the hard stuff and the defensive stuff, plus speed at half back and wing to cover, could be lethal here.

Re: champion and WCE likely to get first dibs on him

All well and good but if we bid on him, and WCE don't have the picks (which they don't atm), nor value him enough against thier current crop of small forwards, nor want to go into pick point deficit, we may force their hand to pass

Which I'm all for

Don't value him high enough against their current smalls? Against who exactly - Liam Ryan and a bunch of hacks? Not sure any of their other small forwards bar Brockman would even be considered for games elsewhere tbh.

True, but if we bid on him West Coast will be forced to match to save face.

Because as has been firmly established, we are their grand final

Was thinking about this as well, if we bid with saints second (after WC has used theirs) would they have the points to match (if the AFL revised the points system to drop off by the end of the 2nd round)?
