Position 2024 Midfielders

I took a nuffie risk last season picking Jai Newcombe, but he averaged 98 and was a solid selection all things considered.

Wasn't planning on running with him again, but when toying around I ended up with a midfield of Bont, Petracca, Walsh, Newcombe and Miller and visually it looks beautiful.

Is Crouch a given to be in the Crows 22? I know he returned to the team late last year but they may want to move on from his type.
I’m thinking yes ….. Crouch was re-contracted for another 2 years at the end of the season

If they didn’t see Crouch as part of 2024 plans …. I don’t see why they would have recontracted him …. they wouldn’t have done it, for him to play SANFL

I guess it depends on whether they went out of their way to re-sign him or no one wanted him and they kept him cheap.

All of the above …. it was almost a fait accompli Crouch would be delisted last year, after almost 2 years in the SANFL …. and no takers at the 2022 Trade Table

But the last 7 games indicated Crouch was finally prepared to play a game style Nicks wanted ….. forward handballing , using legs to break out of contests …. and kick longer than 15 mtr dink passes

He was dragged kicking and screaming to that style ….. he had previously been a player that crabbed the ground, gone backwards, sold team mates into trouble with 2 mtr handballs in congestion to flat footed teammates

The question is, can he keep that new playing style up ? ….. he’s managed to do it in 2022 for a handful of games…only to lapse back into McCrab Crouch

Reading the tea leaves at draft time it appeared there were several suitors, with Geelong possibly one of them. Time will tell but for him to re-sign you would expect games at least early on, and his late season form last year was impressive.

Agree with Wayne’s comments, if they get him to play the way they want instead of ‘letsget40touchesincirclework’ he could be a massive bonus to their midfield, coz the younger fellas are still quite young to play in there full time.

Fin Callaghan $408k

had him in last year at some point and watched quite a few of his games. Plays a nice game and does look like some big upside. Obv price is a bit of a sticky point, but tempting none the less . wont go backwards anyways

Super tempting. Just wonder if he gets enough inside time this year to boost his scores up. Third year breakout perhaps? Giants have a good one here

I can confirm he had clubs chasing him. He is settled in Adelaide, his preference was to stay.

No one went after him the year prior as he was still contracted. Clubs had a chance to sit and see what came of 2023 before making a move.

Nick’s stamped his papers pretty early on, common sense prevailed towards the end of the year. Sometimes the AFL is caught up on recruiting/playing athletes over natural footballers.

Coaches can get caught up in a deficit mindset.

How many round 0 players you going with mate?
8-9 would be the max I would hope to think about.
No more than 3 byes for any of rounds 2,3,5,6

Very interested in Jai. Could go to another level in his fourth year and having reached 50 games. Did have 6 games 115+ in 2023. I expect him to be rested forward , particularly if being tagged, where he can he can score in various ways, (had 14 tackles in his first AFL game after being selected in the 2021 MSD). I'm looking for likely DPP candidates, otherwise forwards look dire.

I'm reluctant to start Premos from teams playing in the opening round. Gawndy, Walsh, Flanders and HH look locks from a value point of view. The others will have to be mega impressive in the opening round to be considered. Irrelevant for non keepers, as it looms as a good year for playing rookies, even bench wise. Touk sharing the same bye as Flanders and HH means missing 3 Premos round 3.

Bont is just about a must have straight up. Pay the $$$$ for the VC/C scores.
