Clubs are idiots.

You're in a competition with 17 others and that doesn't stop after the GF and resume again in the opening round.

Ashcroft is good enough to be bid on at No.1 and that's what Richmond should do.

Make your opposition pay the full price!

P.S- I hope SOS makes a bid on a Camporeale to stop Carlton being able to use 38 as a live selection.

Hell, for the giggles I hope he makes back to back bids on both.

My fave night of the year and I can’t bring myself to watch

Hope Blues pick a dud at 3
Hope all 6 Tiger picks are duds
Hope Bombers pick duds

Theme for tonight, duds
You don't kick off a gig with the Rolling Stones, some other chumps warm up the crowd for them. Everyone knows the important stuff is left to the end. Night 2 is where it's at - and the later in night 2 the better - we've got hte show stopping picks.

And we'll see if we get involved in a pick swap tonight, as we have something up our sleeve with that whole trade we did with the lions. As atm, it feels it benefited the lions and not sure how it helps us given we wont take 4 players.

We'll be either trying to trade up a bit - or the value move might be trying to trade a pick into the future for McGuane points.

Yeah, one of the two. Will be interesting the plan there. Something obviously in he plans behind the scenes.

I do watch the whole draft even if we aren't involved, as when you watch a lot of U18 footy, you tend to get invested in where these kids go.
I've known Sid since he was 15 via the Arlo connection. Back when he was a chance to come to us... a pipe dream at the time.
And then interesting where the whitlocks go, given we were interested in them mid year. Then obviously those that trained with us over summer, Mraz.

Agree, either 34 when a bid comes in for Ashcroft, or a 40's pick when the bid comes in for Marshall

The afl need to introduce trading of a plater on draft night

What I mean for example
Collingwood.draft jack ginnivan pick 30
Hawthorn wanted him so they offer pick 33..a future 3rd and even a roomi pick

So his drafted and traded on the same night
Collingwood trade : 1 breakfast platter, 1 fruit platter, 1 desert platter , 1 sandwich platter

For
hawthorns : 2× Mediterranean platter and 1 2025 christmas platter (details to be worked out closer to the day)

I’d rather Melbourne’s charcuterie board/cheese platter.

Given carlton will be picking a mid anyway, so they have no incentive not to bid. Very strange.
Academy kids or FS rarely go pick 1 (JUH rare case in recent times)

North overlooked Nick to take JHF and allow him the notoriety (and bonuses) that goes with that pick. Look how that worked out for them. First round, clubs should just take who they consider the best player available at their pick.

I get why it doesn't happen with #1 picks, I understand why Richmond arent bidding, but anything after that, a bid should come. But of course every club may have a different draft board, so some clubs may have one player over another.

Davis likely to go in the 2nd round

Hotton – a star Sandringham talent recovering from a mid-season ACL rupture – wasn’t one of the 20 players invited to attend the first night of the draft but will be connected to Fox Footy’s broadcast via Zoom.

So, too, will Claremont’s Hamish Davis, who looms as a second-round – potentially first-round – selection. The Western Bulldogs, Hawthorn, Essendon and Collingwood have all been strongly linked to Davis — an athletic and powerful medium forward with a strong tank.

The Magpies won’t be seeing any action on night one, with their first pick set to come in at around 47 or 48 after earlier father-son and academy bids are matches. Collingwood has been strongly linked to 190cm West Australian forward-midfielder Hamish Davis, 197cm South Australian Charlie Nicholls and West Australian key defender Clancy Dennis, who could all be available later in the draft.

Collingwood has recently met with late-season bolter Hugh Boxshall, an athletic big-bodied midfielder. But whether he gets to the Pies’ pick is another thing altogether. The Magpies have also been fans of VFL young player of the year Sam Davidson throughout 2024 and he certainly fits coach Craig McRae’s ‘now’ mantra as a 190cm marking forward with elite running capacity, while Murray Bushrangers running defender Ollie Warburton has been linked.

The Pies may also look to put the pressure on the Saints. They were linked to a bid on St Kilda NGA key defender Adrian Cole and met with St Kilda father-son Elwood Peckett on Monday, who the Saints are yet to commit to.
