I think Smilie slides to us at pick 52
Impressive work on calculations, but there will be live trading. Dons will most likely have traded out 28 and 31 before then - added some points and some Future picks and GC will have probably added some points too. Saints will most likely just read through their draft board and bid if they're at 1 rather than trying to be tactical as there's very little likelihood of a tactical gain for them.
I'll be happy if West is our first pick, the other 2 can be whoever they wishpick 48. Charlie West (195cm key fwd, SA)
Pick 53: Will Hoare (195cm key def, Essendon VFL)
Pick 57: Nathan Sulzberger (187 mid/fwd)
ESPN's full, final Phantom Draft - every pick, every trade, every bid
It's draft day! Seventy-one picks, nine bids, four live trades, and a whole lot of drama is being predicted in ESPN's full, final Phantom ahead of the 2024 AFL Draft.www.espn.com.au
But given our interest in Nicholls, would we select two players and leave him to go to Geelong at pick 55? Not sure. They may make a choice who they prefer.
Take Brisbanes picks out for matching and the Bombers and GC picks move up and have more points, they match Ashcroft and 7&8 become 8&9. It’s all subject to change. It’s more for the shits and giggles, but it does neither of them any favors. Especially if you have the player in question at your pick.
Espn, probably the worst mock and player ratings going around so factor that in.pick 48. Charlie West (195cm key fwd, SA)

Pardon my ignorance: how many picks are able to be selected tonight knowing Collingwood will be (sadly) conspicuous by its absence. I usually love this time of year as selections bring hope. I know we’ve recruited very well with Houston, Membrey and Perryman but I do like the anticipation of hope of who we might pick up. Given Collingwood is not featuring tonight it makes it a bit less meaningful. Having said that let me say this…..sorry thought I was a politician for a moment
Having said that I’m looking forward to who we might draft and hope they add to our team (they’ll certainly lower the average age so any future recruit starts well).

Makes it really clear that we really benefit on a bid for Kako earlier than ESPN predicts - need their picks in the 40's and 50's to be used up in the bid.pick 48. Charlie West (195cm key fwd, SA)

On Reef and AJ. I’d delist AJ and commit to redrafting him in the rookie draft, hoping someone else grabs him instead, and offer Reef a 1 year deal, committing to developing him in defence for the next 12 months.
Hopefully other clubs would see value in taking on AJ for a 12 month rookie deal (looking at you Melbourne you ****ing rabble of a club).
Someone just told me that Melbourne might take AJ in the rookie draft.

We were too with Nick.Non Vic teams are always looked after.
I find it hard to see a likely scenario where it would help Saints.
I'd like clubs to bid honestly without factoring anything else in, but bloody unlikely.
There's often an advantage in not bidding.
Tiges marketing department want their boy to go pick 1 - and there will be no gain for them in more Brisbane picks getting wiped out - it'll just benefit other clubs.
North are very likely to offer their F2 for Brisbane's 27, so wouldn't be interested in bidding. And even if they don't do that, tactically for them moving 62 up is about the number of picks used - they'd probably be better off with a later pick for Ashcroft and Brisbane matching with more junk picks than them being forced to use decent picks to match. Etc...
