What a strange turn.

There seems to be some confusion between talking to someone and touching their genitals.

Given the saints complaining about bids, FS/Academies, they would do this lol

But multiple sources spoken to by foxfooty.com.au on Wednesday afternoon said the Saints were considering taking a player in the open draft then bidding on both Suns academy midfielder Leo Lombard and Bombers NGA forward Isaac Kako, before splitting their pick and sliding down the order slightly via a trade

Yep but that draft and how it fell was a bit different.

North believed JHF to be worthy of pick one and wanted the prestige for him as pick 1.

Western Bulldogs were never not matching the FS bid by GWS on KPP Darcy.

GWS maybe the ones who helped us the most as they bid on SD and then picked which was the pick we gave them.

Nick in pies circles and some other clubs believed (correctly) Nick was number 1.

Was a bit of perfect storm for us.

Imo Ashcroft circumstances are different but result will be the same.

It matters little if North had JHF at 1 with Nick and Darcy just behind and right in the mix.

All that matters is that they knew if they called out Nick at 1 we'd match and we'd have to pay maximum value. They could have bid on Darcy next (or first) if they so wished also.

This whole dick swinging exercise about being able to attach the No.1 mantle to the player you select should be secondary to making your competition pay up in full IMO.

Oh and don't get me started about the 20K or so attached to the No.1 pick being a reason for it.

Plenty of ways clubs could use 3rd parties, sportsman's nights, player/club sponsors to pass on that money indirectly.

If it were me I'd just say up front to whoever I'm drafting "we're going to take the pressure off you, and make this other kid deal with all the media focus", but it wouldn't surprise me if the AFL also doesn't want Ashcroft going too high because they don't want it to look like a farce, with the premiers also getting the #1 pick.

If Collingwood have a deal in place with brisbane, I would like a later bid than normal. If we don't, hopefully north have the balls to just bid on him at 2.

It's fine to disagree with Scodog but there's no need to dismiss a comment that's quite clearly come from a genuine place of concern the way you did. If you think it's a load of bullshit, explain why.
Or maybe it's just self-evidently wrong-headed.

Generally once you commit to re-rooking players, I think rivals tend to steer clear, unless they are really determined to pry a player out. I suspect they'll be back on our list by friday.
Not necessarily true. Greenwood to Norf comes to mind, completely blindsided GC. We also took Henry Schade from GC before their pick.

Yeah, there are cases where it happens. Thats why I said generally - Of course there are some cases it can happen depending on the player and situation. David Noble had a connection to Greenwood I think and they felt they could use his experience. So if it makes sense depending on the club, its been known to happen from time to time.
Probably should happen more often than it does. But clubs are too soft when it comes to not poaching players that other clubs delist to rookie.
