Preview 2024 National Draft Preview Thread Part Deux

There is only one team looking to trade picks out of this draft and at least five teams looking to use future firsts to trade into it. This includes Essendon who have two F1's and two good second rounders this year they can't use and can throw into any deal. Us joining the competition to provide Richmond with the best deal would be idiocy.

The smart move is to chop up pick 2 and compete with Richmond for the cut price future picks. Start with St Kilda - 2 > 7, F1 and then keep going.

Nah he's gotta stack on 15kg so he doesn't break something playing seniors.

Easily the most underdeveloped physique in the top 10.

I don't think you can you be 100% certain his trademark agility will still be there after he spends a couple years getting his weight up to scratch.

He's also the antithesis of a two-way running mid, which is what we need.

By contrast Draper could play round 1. Far less risk.
Draper and Lindsay both have the body size to play AFL in 2025. Smith would likely get injured at his current weight.

I would hate to death ride saints f1. It could be the poort death ride all over again.

Ross Lyon will get them playing finals. McCrae could be a massive upgrade for their weak midfield and they have plenty of young talent coming through.
Worst thing would have to watch a Ross Lyon coached game - haven’t we suffered enough

Pick 10 is unders for our f1.

Why shouldn’t the tigers take on any risk in this deal? If they want a very good chance at a top pick next year, then our f1 is their best bet. There is no way they are keeping their 8 picks this year. Sure, they could play safe and trade for a future pick in the 10-20 range next year after all the f/s and academy picks are all said and done. Or they can have a 90% chance of a pick between 1 and 5.

Our f1 is an absolute prize even though there is a small risk involved.
My bad, I was thinking of that as a starting point and didn't really think the whole thing through 😕

So originally people here wanting to trade our 2 for Richmond's 6&10/11. Doubt Richmond do that even though in most drafts that would be unders.
If next year there's more risk for Richmond, then maybe 10 and what else? 1 or 2 in their 18-24 range?

Who’s their young talent? Saints are going nowhere fast.

Keep our F1 unless we get value. Ill call now that next years top crop will be better then this years also with potentially bigger KPP in that top 5 mix. Saints F1 we do IF we are sure we get who we want with their pick. Im guessing we wouoldnt. Tauru as the best KPP available I could see Togers at 6 taking him and Melbourne at 5 taking him. I think the club knows that and media talk of moving back and still getting him is to service them.

Richmond will pick 2 mids with picks 1 & 6 in my opinion. Both picks will get them 2 very good mids to build their future midfield around. Picks 10 & 11 is a sweet spot for them to pick talls. Plenty will be available at that range.

I would be very surprised if Melbourne didn’t pick a mid at 5 as well. They have lost a lot of depth there and question marks over the future of others. More likely they go tall at pick 9.

Only question for me with Melbourne is they rate Bo Allen, They need KPD and could get both. I dont think there is a huge gap between a Langford or Smith and Allen.
Agree with Richmond though. I think if they hold 6 for Smilie

I think they’ve done well considering lack of top 5 picks

Darcy Wilson - 19
Phillipou- 20
Wanganeed Milera - 21
Owen’s - 21

That’s probably top end talent then you’ve got windhager, shoenmaker, caminti and Sharman
Erasing not the worst u24’s in the comp

If you manage the muscle development properly, you won't drop the pace. Dangerfield is a prime example. The only thing slowing him down is... age.

I agree they've done well with what they've had, albeit Phillipou went at 10 and they got the academy discount for Owens

It doesn’t scream ‘plenty of talent’ to me. Most teams would have at least that amount of young talent coming through. They look destined to be a mid table team like *.

They have lost Battle as well, which leaves a hole down back.
