Keep our F1 unless we get value. Ill call now that next years top crop will be better then this years also with potentially bigger KPP in that top 5 mix. Saints F1 we do IF we are sure we get who we want with their pick. Im guessing we wouoldnt. Tauru as the best KPP available I could see Togers at 6 taking him and Melbourne at 5 taking him. I think the club knows that and media talk of moving back and still getting him is to service them.

Yep Ludowyke the big KPF next year to look out for early

With luck, they could have been top 4.

They’re a mid table team. Nothing more, nothing less. That’s exactly where they have finished for a number of years.

I think that list of is getting to be an elite group of auxiliary mids. They still need 2-3 elite inside options before I would be happy that there is a future at St Kilda.

I think that list of is getting to be an elite group of auxiliary mids. They still need 2-3 elite inside options before I would be happy that there is a future at St Kilda.

Their backline looks very iffy, especially with Battle gone.

Their midfield would have to be the most vanilla midfield in the comp. It’s lacks speed, X factor, depth, etc.

They need to hit the draft big time and they don’t even know it. Admittedly having picks 7 & 8 will help if they can get the picks right. Their track record of top 10 picks is very poor. They now have SOS at the helm who is probably one the worst recruiters at the top end there has ever been.

They do have some good young talent. Wilson looks a jet, Windhager tough but maybe not A grade, still good though. Then Mitch Owen’s looks a seriously good player.
Philipou and Milera looks quality too.
Does drop off a bit though, but I don’t know their list well.

Richmond will pick 2 mids with picks 1 & 6 in my opinion. Both picks will get them 2 very good mids to build their future midfield around. Picks 10 & 11 is a sweet spot for them to pick talls. Plenty will be available at that range.

I would be very surprised if Melbourne didn’t pick a mid at 5 as well. They have lost a lot of depth there and question marks over the future of others. More likely they go tall at pick 9.

I’m not suggesting their cupboard is completely bare, I just don’t think they have a huge amount of young talent coming through that will allow them to rise up in the coming years. I really struggle to see what their strategy is along with Essendon as well. They both lack elite talent which you predominately get at the high end of the draft. They’re both in no man’s land continually finishing mid table. We did the same thing for 15 odd years.

It's not that hard.
If you want to death ride a team that has won 11 games and lost another 6 games by 10 points or less.
You are taking a big risk.

Saints might have a crap year.
Or they might do well and end up with 16 or so wins.

And you have traded a pick 2 in a strong draft for pick 7 and middle of road pick in not so strong draft next year.

Langford at 190cm is the other taller mid in the top 6.

I’d probably take Smillie over Langford. I think Smillie is next in line after the top 4. Ashcroft, Smith, Lalor, Fos. Then I would say Smillie then Draper then Langford.

I dont see the hype around Draper to be honest, now Langford. No real POD with those two. If langford had some wheels he would be in the mix for the top 3.. his game wont cut it in the AFL. He wont be able to pull his moves as easily and will get punished.

Im actually sleeping on Smillie to be the best of the bunch.

I’ll chime in FWIW, for anyone interested.

This year- like last year- we had a whole lot of guys go down in the last few weeks of the preseason, and went into R1 missing approximately 8 of our best 23.

Yet despite missing those 8, and then losing Crouch half way through that game to boot, we were 2 points down in the last minute, against a near full strength Geelong, in Geelong.

Then the following week- despite being miles off full strength again- we had a really good win over Collingwood, at the MCG.

That too came at a big cost though, as during that game we lost Liam Henry and old mate Mason for multiple weeks each, and that was pretty much the straw that broke the camels back.

We were just too far from full strength (especially in the midfield) to compete with really good teams, and we then lost 4 of our next 7 games by 10 points or less. (1 point to GWS up north, 4 points to *, 5 to Hawthorn in Tassie, 10 to Port, in Adelaide).

Combined with the bad injury toll, 5 of our first 9 games were interstate or in Geelong, we had at least one and possibly two 5 day breaks, and our only two games at Marvel in the first 9 rounds were against co-tenants!

So a horror draw, combined with a big injury toll.

We then re-grouped at the bye after that nightmare overall situation and won 8 of our last 12, and 5 of our last 6.

With those 4 losses being to Brisbane x 2, Port by 2 points, and the other to Adelaide, in Adelaide.

So we were basically back to being at least as good as we were the year before- when we were top 6 for every week of the H&A season bar one. But with better scoring than at any other time under Ross this time around.

As for our young guys, Phillipou is the one that will make an enormous difference if he reaches his potential. We really only saw anything close to the best of him for 4 games at the end of this year, so he’s potentially like a “new recruit”, if we get that version for a whole year.

hrmmm … had an interesting conversation yesterday with a mate who gets the odd nugget of information , he seemed to think that the Tauru talk may be a red herring and that we might have our eyes on another player . In his words “ it would be straight out of the Clarko playbook “
