Hi I have posted very little over the years, but am an avid reader. A question for the Draft experts: Where would W Dawson be ranked in this draft?
Nowhere near a draft expert. But from what I've read, listened to and a few highlight videos, the closest comparison is probably Matt Whitlock in this year's draft. They are probably similarly rated. Whitlock maybe a touch ahead.

Will Dawson was a ~200cm key def, good mark, swung forward occasionally. We picked him up P22.

Matt Whitlock is a ~200cm key def, also had more prominent time up forward (kicking 27 goals).

M. Whitlock could be a bit of a reach in the 15-20 range this year. Likely 20-25.

Tauru will be a jet. It’s time we pull the trigger.

If we take a mid I assume we’ve stamped will Philips papers that he won’t make it….and it lf that’s the case then a mid makes sense.

Otherwise tauru is the man we need. It’s not that much of a reach no matter how we spin it
I love Draper, but if we land FOS or Langford, we can use those guys in any third of the ground.

I’m probably completely off the mark here but I get pre-draft Jack Riewoldt vibes with Tauru. Athletic, big floating leaps, limbs flying everywhere.
Jacks biggest concern was that he didn't get separation. He lacked the elite athletisom of a Alix and Thorpe.

Jacks VFL form with us was so much better than Thorpes but Jack went a lot latter due to the dreaded P word.

So Adelaide want to move up to pick 2 for Jagga who will still be available at their pick 4.

Got it
Crows either believe blues are getting Jagga at 3 and are wanting to jump in front or they are bluffing so Draper gets to 4

As FOS/Lalor go 1-2

If we want Tauru I can't believe we didn't take the saints offer of 7 + F1 for 2. I doubt Melbourne take him, I think the report that they're interested is a ruse, even if they did we could select another tall/mid. We could trade the saints F1 and our F3 to richmond for 18 and 23/24
Really confused about what we are doing. If we really want Tauru we should have just taken the St Kilda offer. If not, the pick slide is a worry, the only reason would be gaining the extra F2 allows us to trade both our F1 & F2, which would be crazy.

The thing I'll miss most about this year's draft thread is the St Kilda supporter trying desperately to sell us on Tauru despite neither him nor us having any say at all in where Tauru gets picked

You know we can trade on the day yeah? No point pick sliding for a very specific player if they're not on the board come draft day.

Tauru isn't as slow in mind and body as Magoo. He looks a really good athlete.

I think the disposal is more hit and miss than downright poor. I guess the question is is it fixable in a professional environment or terminal?

Don't get me wrong, he is still a prospect in that top 5-15 range, but once you factor in having to work on his kicking that's where you have to start wondering if he is worth taking over the absolute top end of this pool.

The North Melbourne player he actually reminds me more of in some ways is Marley Williams, who was a different type of player obviously, but had a similar blend of athleticism, and top-tier defensive work, but an inability to kick that ultimately made him a liability.

Hmmmm not sure I can agree with that.

I’ll take a mark and a kick over a spoil to a 50/50 any day no matter who the player is. Anyone can kick it long 50m down the line to a contest.

Very few can spoil a ball over 15m, nor direct it to a team mate.

Re Ben McKay,
Turnover Intercept
Mckay. 1.3. 8.1

Corr. 1.9. 4.8

Comben. 2.1. 7.0

A kick down the line is also usually 50/50, which is the same as a spoil in your scenario. However, it comes with arguably more risk, as anecdotally you notice a lot more poor kicks lead to goals than poor spoils.

One of the most valuable plays on the field is an intercept mark followed by a dangerous 45m kick that exposes the opposition and moves the ball forward at a speed that doesn't allow the team that turned the ball over to react. That's something that you see from Moore, McGovern, Sicily, and Stewart. A lot of those McKay intercepts would slow the game down, allow the opposition to set up their zone, and most of the time result in another inside 50 for the other team. That's where I'm questioning the value.

The first two paragraphs are exactly why I don’t see the ceiling that others see. I rate his aggression and athleticism but I think he’d probably be more suited to playing a key forward, but even still he is a little undersized and doesn’t have enough exposed form to justify a top 10 pick.

If we were going for a safe reliable interceptor with fantastic character then Luke Trainor should be our target.

I'm also hoping if they take Alix Tauru it's because they see him as an Aaron Naughton type of player. If that's what they sell us, I would buy that more than them thinking he could be the next James Sicily.

I agree, Saints offer is one I’d be tempted to take if we are into Tauru or not. I still think all the signs point to us having another target, club just being very tight lipped which is a good thing.

I still don't get why we aren't more invested in Harry Armstrong. He is rated higher amongst most power rankings by draft experts, has a far better body of work behind him almost matching that of a Cadman, did it in the Champs, is a much bigger need on our list than an intercepting defender, failed forwards can end up being gun defenders anyway, and we have Jack Darling for 2 years that he can develop under.

Doesnt mark it well enough imo

I reckon...

Pick 2 for pick 4 and an F2 (any F2).
We draft Draper, FOS or Langford.

That frees us up to trade our F1 & F2 into this draft.

We trade our F1 & F2 to get Tauru and someone else in this draft.
