Strange reaction to a trade that would have surely been ticked off by more than just Brady. Unless I am much mistaken, among others in that room were Viney, Clarkson and Thursfield. Would those people have just left the decision to Brady or would they have been involved in the decision to complete that trade?
I'm sure they all contributed to this ****-up.

I don't blame Brady for last year's crap game plan - I blame Clarko.
But I don't blame Clarko for crap list management decisions because he is not the list manager.

Think we need to separate the 'trade' from our player rankings.

Ultimately we obviously rated MWhitlock really really highly and we obviously have little regard for next years draft.

For instance, if we had traded our F1 for Pick 10 to the Saints, and picked up Whitlock - would the melts have been so high if we rated MW in the top 10? Maybe and some might have called it a stretch, but a lot of clubs were reaching for KP players; up until recently Tauru wasn't even a top 20 pick in most people's eyes. Looks like he's got a great athletic profile, flexibility through F/D, great height, and seems like a good character.

In this way, we've got a guy we rate super highly, and extra year of development and what in effect is an end of first round pick, assuming the Tigers are last.

We also absolutely need a KP player. After drafting FOS, and the players we've brought in, we really just need a KPF (or someone to release CC to the forward line). Whitlock could be that guy. Let's back him in.

If it turns to shit LDU will leave and we will have a first rounder.

Seriously a lot on here was saying trade a f1 to get a tall and the one most wanted hasn’t even been taken yet - every one get a grip and back these two young guys in
Armchair experts too obsessed over numbers rather than actual players.

That F2 is pick 28 this year.

I don't think it will be as far back next year but it largely comes down to how we rate Whitlock and how he compares to what will be available next year. If we say end up with pick 5 or 6 next year and the best KPF around the mark isn't as good as Whitlock (in our opinion), then the trade makes sense regardless what other pick we got back in the trade.

In a perfect world we would have done the trade for the F1 during the trade period and got more value out of the trade but we wouldn't have been sure if the player we wanted would be around at that pick or not. Matt was there, Richmond would do the trade, the rest is up to Clarkson and the club, it will either come out looking great or shit, it is the type of trade where there wont be an inbetween.

I think its important that we not conflate the criticism of the trade with the picking of the player, because pretty sure no ones really been doing that.

It's possible to absolutely hate the trade, but be rapt with the picking up of Matt. Not mutually exclusive ideas.

Hold Brady's beer.

2 x F2's to the Dogs for our original R2. You watch.

Nuke the entire 2025 draft hand in the process.
We may as well embrace the fallout now.

It might make it slightly better to have twins kicking arse and loving it playing for North.

I know there is a lot to unpack with this deal, but why do you think we want with Matt?

Maybe, but this trade has nothing to do with winning games now. Whitlock is years away.

True, but we downgraded our F1 for him, we obviously thought the trade was reasonable enough to agree to which would imply we don't expect our F1 to be as high as our other first picks have been.

Adding to what you've said above, the choice of Matt Whitlock and the suggestions that we read out the wrong name - there is nothing more obvious here than this being a Clarko call, preferring the versatility over the single position player.

Not defending the trade, but I'm certainly in the "we need to start winning games of footy" this trade, bringing in the senior guys - clearly means there's clear expectations that enough is enough.

If we have similar year to the last few - this trade will be the least of our problems.

We've finished bottom 2 for 5 years running.

I don't think anyone needs to 'get a grip' lol

Don't be rational. Now is the time to melt!
