I reckon we'll end up with a 1st round pick in a similar range to where Ben will be bid on. Club will have a choice to trade up or out. I actually don't mind the idea of trading out. We'll likely get overs instead of giving up way overs to trade up. Grab both Campos, a few clever trades / free agents, and improve our hand in the 2025 draft.

How do you know there is not a player at 15 that suits our list needs more than the Campos?
Would you consider keeping the pick and passing on one of the Campos?

Why is there this Camporeale infatuation, when there is nothing in the forum descriptions that suggest they will fix our list holes?
Recruit the Camporeale's by all means as they will replace some ageing contested players , endurance players like Acres but who are we focussing on in the draft that will give us speed, punch from stoppage, delivery into F50, crumbing ability.
I just get the sense, sometimes the recruiting department spins wheels and the supporters drink Carlton's bath water.
WE MUST GET PAST THIS SENSE OF ACCOMPLISHMENT BECAUSE WE RECRUITED BOYD AND CINCOTTA.

Nothing changes with list and our Premiership prospects until we recruit
A couple of fast mids with good disposal
A second Key Position Defender
A Genuine Electric Small forward.

Is it infatuation or is it just a general interest because they have a big impact on carlton filling those holes you identified. Many posts have been pretty realistic about there abilities.

Carlton desperately needs a bit of speed, agility and creativity in both the midfield and forward line. We move the ball well for maybe 20 minutes a game and then become slow, stagnant and make hard work of everything for the remainder of the game. I’m amazed we play Hewitt, Kennedy and Carroll in the same team. Maybe it’s because of injuries.

Anyway a draftee that might help fill this need and has really got my attention is Isaac Kako. Has some real energy about the way he plays. I see elements of Gryan Miers and nick watson in the way he goes about it.

This thread was made on yesterday, where the SA under 18s played a game vs the Allies in which there were 5-6 standouts.

Leo Lombard - A GCS Academy player
Dyson Sharp - A bottom ager not available this year
Ben Camporeale - One of our F/S options
Lucas Camporeale - The other of our F/S options
Evan Bradley - A speedy small forward for SA that most had never even heard the name of before Sunday
Tyler Welsh - An Adelaide F/S

Realistically what else would you like us to discuss MJ?

Personally I'd love to get our hands on Jagga Smith who's the speed, agility and delivery inside 50 you speak of to go with a small forward free agent but we can only really discuss what's presented to us and at this stage there hasn't been a heap of games/performances to discuss. Taj Hotton looked awesome in a few games earlier this year and went down with an ACL a few weeks later.

As more champs games unfold I'm sure we'll have more to discuss around other prospects.

It doesn’t make sense to pass on top end academy/FS talent. The discount is too good.

Campo boys could be natural replacements for some of our aging half backs. Ollie might become a midfielder when he adds some size and Binns might not kick on. Acres and Hewett won’t last forever. They are versatile enough that we can mould them as direct replacements for our aging players.

If we want a player within the best 12-15 it is going to be best to trade up and out of Ben’s range to pick that player. Then we make up the points with seconds and thirds, go into a deficit if we have to.

It's better if it's free.

I think it's a natural human reaction to look for the positives here. When's the last time we had any F/S come through?
I don't know anything about the twins, but the info here seems quite balanced? There doesn't seem to be droves of posters saying they don't have faults?

Not sure I'd classify it as infatuation, rather a positive outlook on 2 son's of a great player being drafted to Carlton.

Care to elaborate?
I'm a draft fundamentalist at the best of times and I don't think we have the quality youth coming through the ranks that many of the other competing clubs have. I want sustained success.

We just need to be ruthless with the players that don't offer us a point of difference. I don't think we need to be throwing first round draft picks around with the compromised drafts just around the corner.

For sure. Also, the way the current father son system works means you get the players at a significant discount. Means it's nearly always worth grabbing them even if they arent perfect fits for your needs. As evidenced by the fact that pretty much no highly rated father son has been passed on in a long long time.

I disagree that the Campos don't fit our needs anyway. Both have attributes we could do with more of.

We aren't passing on either Campo unless someone bids ridiculously early. We will build our draft strategy around them so that we can maximise the picks we have.

Agree - with some of our misses & having traded out early picks for Cerra & Saad, I'm we're a little light on for developing prospects IMO.
If there's value available, you consider it but I'm not desperate to trade out of the early rounds.
Rookie scale contracts help keep the cap in check & mids/small forwards can often have an impact shortly after being drafted.
I understand the desire to strike whilst the iron is hot but nailing the draft extends our window of contention.
Get some handy youngsters, Campox2 & another Acres/Holland style acquisition & we'll be well positioned.

Some good points about list gaps/need.

Hopefully any planning / trading for Campos is done strategically, second to these key needs (speed, disposal) as top priority, to be aggressively / creatively targeted

I think we have some viable young players down our spine that are below 25.

Kemp
Cowan
E Hollands, O Hollands, Walsh
TDK
Motlop

That is a very solid spine of players below 25 with a hope that Wilson/Moir becomes a player as well.
Add Campo boys to the mix.

We're obviously lacking some younger tall forwards but Charlie and Harry are around 27 years old, so there is a good six years left of play. Maybe in 3 years time, we might have to look a little harder for tall forwards.

Agresta isn't the first Recruiting Manager I've heard in the last few weeks to say they think this draft is deep.
Certainly looks it, but the top end is a fair way off 2023, 2018 levels imo.

Think it's the type of draft where having multiple picks in the 20s-30s will be more valued than a single pick in the 1-10 range.

Tom Gross fits that bill - powerful, goal kicker. Loves the contested ball and fend off.

Jagga Smith would compliment our midfield perfectly - but it would be impossible to see him sliding out of the top 10. I reckon Richmond will snap him up

It's interesting that when talking about list build in general, Agresta and Austin spoke about going after bulls in the midfield, then the rules changed with 666 etc. and teams pivoted to more speed and burst players.

They went on to suggest (can't remember actual wording) that there may be a shift back with more possible rule changes in the not too distant future. Didn't really dwell on it but the suggestion was there.

I have been watching a bit of the youth games and highlights in preparation for Champs and if I were North or Richmond, I'd be pretty disappointed with the top crop this year. None of them really stand out as future superstars. Smillie seems to be shaping up as pick 1 and I think I'd probably pick him there, but JHF or Reid he is not. Not to mention the others currently predicted top 5 like O'Sullivan or Draper who I wouldn't pick until 8 or 9 most years.

Smillie is a big kid with a nice kick, but is he dynamic enough to really get the most out of his kicking? He doesn't burst through packs and doesn't have that seemingly god-given core strength that makes certain players un-tackle-able so I can't see him using his kicking to his best ability out of stoppages. In transition, he isn't an elite runner, not a great mark despite his size. Think he ends up a stoppage beast who occasionally gets the chance to do a nice kick. Good player, potentially a superstar if he can really improve his endurance, burst or marking once hes in an AFL environment.

Should be a few decent KPD options around our pick which is nice. If we take a smaller player first then I would like us to have a look at Gabriel Stumpf with a later pick. He a mobile forward who plays taller than his listed height. Doesn't seem to be on many draft watchers top 40/50 but I think he would be a great option to develop down back, seems to read it well enough and his profile would make him a great foil to Weitering.
