I love Draper and the immediate impact he could have, but on the other hand should we be looking a bit further and finding Cripps successor, we all expect to challenge over the next 1-5 years so reality is this is the last chance we will get with a high pick for a while... Cody Walker excluded.
That's crazy, we need to add to our midfield mix now. You can find a good inside midfielder any time. Kennedy, Worpel, Luke Parker, Jack Steele, Tom Mitchell etc. You could pick one up from anywhere at any time. Yes Cripps is the absolute best there has ever been at the role and we make it work with his elite attributes but you can build a midfield without a Cripps like inside midfielder and be the best in the competition - look at Sydney, Collingwood etc. Pick the player that compliments Cripps now and then in 5 years time when Cripps is no longer with us, we'll have a different midfield mix that favours outside run or speed.

Depends on what we think of the other options at 3. I could see Adelaide potentially paying a fair bit to get a pick 3/4 swap with us if they are hot on Draper - as I would expect them to be - and if they expect him still to be there at our pick. They don't have any other decent picks at the moment, but that could change, or they might proffer a future or they might blink on a key defender - they have a few (Worrell, Murray, Betts & Keane just off the top of my head) that would interest us. Just don't know how keen they might be. Then there is the question of whether he might get picked up before us - I doubt it but there are a lot of permutations. If Adelaide expect him still to be there and we have doubts I'd try and get their best offer now and decide whether it warrants the pick swap. If we are also confident he gets to our pick maybe we hold off to draft night and see how keen Adelaide might be if he is definitely there - obviously blows up if he gets taken, but we are probably happy enough to go to the draft with our current pick unless there is a really good deal on the table.

Of course we may not rate Draper at our pick although general view seems to be he is worth it. If that is the case makes it more attractive to do a pick swap with the Crows.
Agree provided Draper is still available ( very likely ) at our pick & we prefer someone else hopefully Adelaide panic & come knocking draft night.

I actually don't think we need to find a direct successor for cripps. Alot of teams now run a bunch of inside/outside players through the middle and share the load winning contested ball (ie Sydney) rather then relying on 1 beast. Reckon the game is going in that direction unless the player is very special.

And we've just brought in Cooper Lord and are getting Ben Campo

Praying somehow we get a pick back in the mid teens for Berry

Draper/Lalor/Smith/FOS + Berry and I'll be cracking open some cold ones

drunk the rock GIF by ALL SEEING EYES

Jesus dude, you're going to need counselling if we don't pick him. :D

Alright lads, more vision of Finn playing in 2023

----

Heavy demand in recent days to see more of Finn O'Sullivan during his relatively injury free bottom age campaign. Here we see him leading his Chargers to a big win in the first round of last years Talent League finals. He cracks in hard at stoppage, winning a lot of footy and laying tackles. He shows his ability to dodge and weave around tacklers, and the audacity to take on the play with calculated risks to break lines.

Pick 3 could be huge on draft night the tigers could go into the night with 7/8 picks under 25, they will probably want a balance of the best mids and key position players and if they want the best key forward in the draft Armstrong they probably have to get ahead of the demons in the draft at 5. That leaves only north blues and crows as options to trade up with could be a massive offer on draft night for them to get ahead of the demons if the player we targeted at 3 is taken earlier.

I read this post in David Attenborough’s voice.

What’s your take? Worth pulling the trigger on him at 3? Or would you go a different direction?
These are my talent tier groupings. I think FOS, Draper or Lalor would all be good options for you, they all bring a bit of something you don't have yet. As much as I love Jagga I think has too much overlap with Walsh and I think you want a mix of types in your midfield ideally. FOS and Draper would both bring a point of difference with their breakaway pace and attack/hurt factor from stoppage. Lalor would give you a medium forward or power midfielder similar to DeGoey, which is a type I don't think you have right now, unless I'm overlooking someone.

Tier 1 in any order:
Draper
Jagga
FOS
Levi

Tier 1.5 in any order:
Lalor
Lombard
Smillie

Tier 2 in any order:
Reid
Lindsay
Langford
Trainor
Hotton

Tier 3 in any order:
Kako
Hannaford
Travaglia
Allan
Tauru
Marshall

Can you hold off on these gems until after the draft? Dont want Kangas or tigers to pick him.

You've cut up a heap of footage, I just struggle to see the recent ability of FOS. I feel like I am projecting his 2023 output not his 2024 output. I know injuries are a reason, but there is still a part of me that is worried.

Jagga - Great player, maybe not perfect for our needs
Draper - Has improved across the year and shown great ability at high levels.
Reid - I personally think he showed some of the best footage this year. (Maybe not explosive enough)
Lombard - Dream player, quick, explosive and a meters gained player (Reminds me a little of Touk Millar but quicker)

I’ve seen enough I’ve added Jagga Smith to my shortlist of 4

  • Sam Lalor
  • Sid Draper
  • Finn O’Sullivan
  • Jagga Smith

We get one of those 4 and I’m sure we will, I will be one ecstatic blue baggerrrrrr!!!

I just don’t think we can go wrong. Every one of them is a winner.

Not that SEN are anymore reliable than the plethora of bogus trade updates, but this afternoon they mentioned that the Tigers will likely go after Finn O’Sullivan and Jagga Smith. Other sites reporting they also have Lalor as a target.
.
Interesting. I get the feeling Lalor is going to struggle with Weight issues a bit further down the track (he is definitely solid, but he also has a far bit of 'Puppy Fat' and has already had a serious hamstring injury).

I think Reid suits our needs more than Draper but I'd be happy with FOS or Draper.

Be interesting to see what happens, it does feel that the Tigs are keen Finn and Jagga and I think the word is they are keen to trade for pick 2.

I don’t see an issue with Lalor’s weight, his not over weight and I think under an elite training program he will transform his body into that Petracca type
