Agree with your thoughts on Meirs. I also think Smith gave us a much stronger marking option coming out of defence than Meirs can. Meirs number one asset was his goal assist work which would be lost if he was moved up the ground.

For mine Cameron needs to stay in the forward line with occasional spells onball or on a wing. He is too good a shot for goal to move away.

Knevitt on the wing would give us the marking option coming out of d50.

Your 1st impressions on anything are normally correct

But Dangerfield on that clip looks alot lighter alot leaner

He needs to be to try and ward off the calf/hammy injuries.

Just need a gun KPF and some luck on the injury front and our spine is set.
I am sure one of the ones at other clubs will want to come home around then, and after they do the AFL will impose a new "geelong" rule like the F/S rule where its the "going home" rule.

We made him deploy beast mode 24/7 from about round 4 through 8 until he got injured in the Crows game. His minutes might still have been managed but he was going full throttle and in the best few players each game.

It gave our season a pulse but then he was out and we collapsed, and cracks his rib first half back, then couldn't really engage beast mode anymore.

People were pretty harsh on his season. He did as much as was feasibly possible, which was different to Pendlebury in more of a "luxury" role. If we demand that much of him he WILL be sidelined for periods.

this might just be me (and yes ill preface by saying winning games is always nice) but id would rather see an type of development by the younger guys on the list with an eye to the future, who that may be from the guys everyone in here has mentioned, that is what gets me excited, almost feels like we havent had this young crop of youngsters with raps on almost all of them in a long ass time and i for 1 (along with many others) are really keen for them to start to play good consistent football as we start to slowly phase out the older guys, just my 2 cents here

GO CATS :)

Change happens slowly at first, then fast

The kids are going to play football, good or otherwise, given the imminent retirements.

Tuohy
Stanley
Rohan
Hawkins

Plus maybe
Dangerfield
Duncan

To be replaced with one first round pick, one second round pick, and a bunch of speculative picks

Add to the replacements at least 1 if not 2 “a grade” players coming from other clubs as free agents…over the next couple of years

An A grade KPForward and a MFielder and we are close to being set for a decade. Question is who is out of contract that we would want ?
They are hard to get as FA’s.

But I’m convinced that our salary cap in the next two years will be about as open as it’s ever been.

So fingers crossed we can lure some guns over.

It might be 3 or 4 years but imo we need to be using that cap room, even though many here will say “Geelong don’t pay overs”.

Our older guys will just about all be gone in 3 years and when that happens, teams usually have other top players that are 26 or 27 and command huge contracts…. But we don’t have those 24 year old guns on our list at the moment… our guys are younger.

Cap room will be huge imo.

I’d think we will look to use it.

Obviously the sooner the better whilst Stewart, Cameron and Guthrie are still around… but it might not unfold that way.

I agree our salary cap will open up. Thinking back to the Dangerfield and Cameron trades , it doesn't appear that money was the primary reason for any of those guys moving. There's a bit of a down to earth country and family culture at the cats which seems to be a bigger draw for the right personalities. I doubt we'd ever take players like Grundy or Degoey despite their ability, where as they'd fit in at a club like Collingwood... or Richmond lol

Obvs don't know him personally and I don't think he's on the same level as the above players, but I think Bailey Smith probably gets an unfair wrap, doesn't fit in well at the WB anymore and would fit in to the Cats with leaders like Danger and Stewart at the helm. He seems like he wants to get out of the limelight a bit. And the Cats / Cotton On endorsement side would work well.

Don't know who we want as a forward...

Watch everyone lose their shit when 2 of Jamarra Ugle-Hagan, Aaron Cadman, Ollie Lord or Oscar Allen end up at Geelong over the next couple of years.

Oscar Allen and JUH Please !
Realistically you would think that we would be going as hard as possible behind the scenes on JUH and if he was to leave the Doggies that we would be a chance to nab him.

He is OOC at the end of this season and has ties to us.

The dogs will clearly be doing all they can to keep him… I just hope we are doing all we can to win him over.

JUH is a chance of at least a realistic chance.

Oscar Allen is from WA and just got named Co Captain… he is not shot.

Cadman either just resigned or is about to so he isn’t happening anytime soon.

The Dogs gave Naughton a huge contract.
I think we were into him and we also offered Curnow a big long term contract.

I can’t see us not doing the same with JUH.

I think he will be offered something huge from us (if he progresses this season).

We will have the $$$

Just gotta hope JUH is keen.

The Dogs do have talls coming outta their backsides, so they afford to lose one.

At least if he stays at the Dogs I’ll hope English also stays on a massive contract and then Bailey Smith or someone else might need to get pushed out on the cheap.

Proper melts by WB supporters if we get JUH and Bailey Smith in one trade period !

I agree with the sentiment of the first part of this post. Everyone in the AFL is playing because they love the game. Half of these want to play in premierships and the other half want a payday. This is why I love that the Cats don’t pay overs because you know the guy is coming here for the right reason. I don’t want someone who is only going to play well every 3rd year when he’s contract is up for renewal or won’t go hard enough to avoid injury and a future lesser contract.

However, I’m not sure I agree with your assessment of Bailey Smith, he very much craves the limelight. He calls himself Bazlenko on the socials and loves getting the rig out. He would probably be an influencer if he wasn’t a footballer. Loves the nightlife. Doesn’t want to play on the wing and wants to be THE MAN in the middle. Nothing screams teamplayer to me.
Having said all this if he’s available for the right price I would be happy for him to come to the Cats as he’s nowhere near as big a knob as De Goey.
I don’t think everyone on the list needs to be sin free. I think we won 3 flags from 07-11 because we had different characters with their share of indiscretions like Chappy, Stevie J and Scarlo who weren’t afraid to challenge each other to get better.

I think we'd need Smith more than JUH
I’d take JUH for the short term and the long term over Smith.

Hawkins out JUH in would be fantastic.

Cameron isn’t going to play forever either.

JUH could play as a high level key forward for 10 more years.

I hope we go very hard at him to get him at the Cattery.

I see the appeal, I just think having a gold plated forward line is a bit of a waste of time if we can't get it there

Correct me if im wrong but i believe Cadman only signed an extension to the end of 2026.

Bringing him in for the start of 2027 could be perfect timing, and he is probably the most gettable of the rated young forwards.
