Arrogant at the selection table.

Hogan got an arm chair ride from the umps.

I thought this too.

TDK as a sole ruckman against a gorilla is poor - must play Pitto for these guys.

Cottrell straight in with Cerra playing a full game whilst dropping Hewett & not resting Kennedy. Owies as sub instead of Fantasia (who played his only good game against the 17th placed team), just crap.

Like you said, just arrogance.

Players must have read this forum pre game. 8+ goal win incoming. Opportunity to 'rest' players... didn't respect a team from last years prelim..

"Statement game" indeed.

Bulldogs next week. Playing good footy. Hopefully tonights reality check keeps them humble and brings back the hunger.

Is it time we talked about Charlie? His individual brilliance is keeping him in front of the coleman but the talking point of "we haven't even seen him get off the chain yet!" has now ventured into "why hasn't he gotten off the chain yet?" We're in the backend of the season and he's still puttering along in 3rd gear with no threat of getting out of it. To be blunt, some of his efforts look ordinary and with a different number on his back would be called out more harshly.

With a 2 goal margin, the Hogan/Kemp match-up being left as long as it did ended up being the difference.

We might have come out ahead on the free kick count, but we were screwed. How many times did Briggs not even look at TDK and just run into him and push him out of the way. Then when he gets tossed around, the umpires pull their whistle out of their arse and give him a free kick.

How many goals did the umpires give them through free kicks that just weren't ****ing there.

We didn't help outselves with the second quarter. But ****ing hell... really?

As an aside, what were the odds for a GWS win right before the first bounce? What was the drop just before the first bounce?

Easy to say in hindsight but for mine the two outlier 'repeat' selections from the MC have been Fantasia and O Hollands. Yes Fantasia was 'building' okay but he probably didn't deserve to even be in the side when he kicked the four goals, and was utterly putrid again tonight.

Hollands has been an obvious weak link, never more so than tonight proceeding to deliver one of the worst games you would ever see.

We can add Cottrell to this mix now, who I am a huge fan of, but should not be picked next week based on what he just did.

Briggs murdered us. Did get away with a hell of a lot of blocks and shoves in the back but was the best player on the ground for mine. Hogan killed kemp. Sore or not I’m not sure why we didn’t put Weitering on him. Difficult game to watch.

Hogan only got 1 free kick and we won the free kick tally quite handily. First time since Round 8 that we have won the stat. 6 contested marks to Hogan actually. He smashed us genuinely.

What does this mean for our premiership aspirations?
We are really vulnerable against speed from stoppage. Swans would watch that and lick their lips. Austin gets a free ride on this forum for his unbalanced list management. eg how does the lord selection solve our core list deficiency of speed
Kemp was defensively awful
Curnow was offensively awful. He has lost his leading/marking touch and what is it with the one hand contests and always being behind?
Walsh can't burst from stoppage and I question whether he has lost a quick step due to the back injury.

I was worried during the first quarter because it didn’t look like a Carlton game. That run and gun stuff never suits us. It didn’t look like a Carlton game until the last ten minutes of the match.

In the end, the result (and game itself) should be a re-set. We are better than we showed tonight. Time to knuckle down and prove it. I am sure we can come back.

More questions raised tonight

We constantly field a side that is short on talls so when 1 or 2 go down we are really vulnerable to the big key forwards….not to mention Charlie was way down on form

Full credit to the giants they took our best punches and then went on the charge!

Walsh and Cerra were absolutely woeful tonight
Kennedy worked his way into the game as forward but we lacked Hewitts midfield work particularly when Cripps had to ruck.

Cotts should never have started in the side..Owies had been in super form prior to this and was a slap in the face to him

Ollie hasn’t really come on and needs a few weeks in the 2s imo.

Fanta is depth and Jesse is ready…time to rotate

Boyd…I don’t see it…much like Ollie he isn’t physically strong enough and found wanting 1v1

Interesting that Briggs was literally looking at TDK and pushing him off the ball…not sure how legal that is but nonetheless it seriously hampered our centre clearance work…

That is the sort of loss that the Essenscum one was last year. A reality check, a reset. We are a better team than that, plenty of examples of smart arse moments, the Weitering short, slow pass at the end of the first; the showy bauk's by Williams; the dumb skills and decisions of Cowan; the lack of any effort by Walsh.......and we only lost by two goals, and with three minutes to go, the game was in the balance!!!!!! Actually don't mind that loss, so much to work with going forward, rather be in our shoes than the filth....
