I'm at a loss for words at just how much we've regressed since the Geelong game. I think it's a combination of drinking our own bath water, poor coaching and selection, and injuries and fitness, but mostly the first two.

This team, including the coach, has no idea how to stop a team's momentum. We saw it tonight, we saw it against the Giants etc. We got absolutely smashed in the second half – Port were hungrier and hunted the football and us. Our effort at times was simply pathetic. Umpiring issues are moot because both teams copped it. Yes, a couple iffy ones led to a goal but anyone who blames the umpires are ignoring the bigger issues we've got. To kick one goal in a half of football when top 4 is on the line is a total embarrassment.

This team given its form should not be favourites in any of the upcoming games bar West Coast. Pies will be relishing really hurting our finals chances once again, Hawks are on fire and will be too quick and hungry for us, St Kilda just know how to play us (same as Bulldogs). And from the what we've seen from the MC they'll keep picking the same underperforming flops that continue to stink it up and leave players like Binns to rot.

Lewis Young never again. Ever.
Pittonet is not our number one ruckman. Horrendous second half.
Cerra, awful. Not a defender.
Cottrell, can run but doesn't have a brain.
Hollands is like the other team having an extra player. Panic merchant of the highest order. File under Cottrell.
Walsh, a shadow of his former self. No awareness, can't win a clearance. Awful disposal.
Kemp should have played forward with Young in, but we all know that except those moving the magnets.

Did like Cowan's game. Cripps beaten but had a crack, just wasn't his night. Curnow double teamed but battled. Again our dumb arse players still decided to kick it on his head.

Crying out a for Silvagni. Someone who leaves it all out there. Don't think many did tonight.

Feel bad for Cunners but that's him done. He probably knows it.

If Voss doesn't admit that we've got problems then he's delusional and it's no wonder we're playing with no fight.

Nice of you to pluck the scape goats....what about Walsh absolutely woeful...butchered the ball endlessly
I don’t necessarily disagree with you and I’ve been critical of his efforts especially this year but he’s clearly trying. He probably needs a bit of guidance from his coach on not trying to force it. Some of the other blokes I mentioned just didn’t turn up when they needed to.

That was horrid. Mood on the train home is very sombre

Midfield smashed for the fourth week running - killed at clearance. Why aren’t we doing something about this?

We either have the dumbest footballers in the comp… or I have significant concerns about our coaching staff. Structure forward of the ball was utterly shithouse all night - the plan was either;

  • kick to Charlie in a 1v5 and pray for magic (which happened and he kept us in the game)
  • Charlie takes mark up the ground - meaning there is nothing beyond him to kick to and we have someone like Motlop manning up Aliir. The next step is then;

a) Charlie goes long to said terrible contest and ball comes back out

b) Charlie realises there is no one to kick to, so we slow the game down and that gives Port time to flood back while Charlie runs back into the F50 so we can kick over his head again

Why did we not do anything to adjust for this?
Young is about as useful as **** on a bull. Delist
Pretty clear in a game like tonight where we are SCREAMING for an option as a release kick why Pittonet is a very clear number 2. Offers **** all around the ground and tbh doesn’t even offer us ruck dominance against a journeyman spud in Sweet

We don’t have the depth to cover the likes of TDK/H/Acres and we don’t have the IQ (either players or coaching staff - I don’t know which) to compensate for it.

2 goals in 3 quarters of footy. Insipid

Very few positives - Charlie our best by a mile, thought Lij had a good 2.5 quarters

and for the love of God, get Cerra the **** away from a back flank

2 guys had their cards stamped tonight.

One’s been done with injuries, the other just isn’t invested.
Who is the one not invested Stig ? Seemed like there was a few out there tonight in the not invested category.

I just don't understand the team selections and positioning over the last month. A few questions ...

Did Cerra and/or Kennedy spend any midfield time at all? If not, why not? And why is Cincotta in there above these two? We are getting smashed in the midfield and in the clearances for a month now, and we don't use two of our better midfield players? I know Cerra is looking a shell of his former self, but at least give him a go in his best position.

Why was Young in the side to play as a forward? At least we could have moved Mitch McGovern forward who has history as a forward and has an X factor playing as a forward. Nothing against Young, he tried hard tonight and it is not his fault that he was played out of position. But if we are going to play him, at least play him back. Playing him back would have also helped Kemp out a bit.

Our delivery/decision making into fwd 50 is just f*****g appalling.
Yeah let’s hit up Fog while he has Asava and ZT on him….Cottrell fmd

Disgraceful downfield free against Newman changed the flow.

We desperately need a KPD (Barass) and quick mid with good skills (Bailey Smith)

Im usually wrong about most things, so I’ll say our flag chances are done.

Boyd still injured/sore but we had no one else and would have played if needed
That’s how bad we are struggling now for options
I’m also told Cuningham had a sore shoulder going into the game
So they basically played him and killed his AFL career 🤔 while Binns had 47 touches last week and both our wingmen had a combined 23 possesions tonight. Why not bring in Binns for Acres?

Bit of perspective needed no other side is having a 5 day break except the bulldogs v melbourne Rd 21 over the final 6 rounds .
(Last round scheduling not decided).
Utterly ridiculous scheduling this time of year .
The AFL are a joke .
Add we where smashed in stoppages second half giving our makeshift forwardline basically curnow or bust & minus Mckay Martin even Silvagni little hope in the air .
Simply ran out of legs & options .

They haven't looked particularly convincing at any moment since that first quarter against GWS.

3 finals bound teams, 3 losses.

Pretty upsetting that the best season in over 20 years, might still not be good enough to secure a home final (and I say that knowing how bad things could still get).
