Crows have been playing slow mediocre football. Until tonight. Tonight was 2023 Crows. Constant movement and flow. Their movement out of D50 was slick and in complete contrast of the first four rounds.

Unlike Geelong, Freo Melbourne we were slow to set up defensively, so they tore us up every time they went fast. It’s only in the last that we figured it out and then we lost our puff in the last 8 minutes.

No idea what Weiters thought he was doing. Pearce never left Tex’s side. Weiters gave him free reign.

I can’t see us winning next week. And the next three weeks are going to be tough.

The season has just got real. Time to really test out resilience and our squad mentality.

At half time, 9 of those 11 marks inside 50 for the the Crows were uncontested. That is a real worry. I think we can expect a lot more teams to adopt their method, and I'm not sure how we're going to respond.
Not that many sides have smalls with the aerial ability of Rochelle and Rankine, and their kicking game was on today.

We know we're not fast around and behind the ball. Saad going down compounded this.

Voss talks about moments.

Forget how many goals and marks we missed, the game changed when Zac/Kemp couldn’t kill that ball in the pocket.

Owies walks into an open goal-Misses.

Cottrell/Hollands 2 on 1 late 40 out drops the mark.

Moments are the difference between winning and losing.

Did you read the post to the end? We are not going as well as expected imo. That's my opinion?

You seem hell bent on trying to shut down any negative opinion regardless or not of if said poster wither a negative opinion has given supporting evidence.

I don't think you're handling the loss any better than the posters you are responding to. People have negative opinions, we don't live in a utopia. It's ok.

Not shutting down any opinion, I'm interested in the analysis based on the flow rather than outcome

That was just a shocker.

The decision to play two rucks was poor. The problem isn't the ruck work, it is that neither can play any other position, so we are effectively playing a runner short. It also stopped McKay getting up the ground, and TDK seems to ruck and contest worse when he has to change more.

Defensively, we were atrocious. Our forward pressure wasn't there, but they also broke out the front of stoppages far too easily and just got easy ball inside 50.

We also plan poorly against them. Be Keays has kicked 3 goals on 3 occasions in his career - total. All 3 were against Carlton in our last 3 appearances. Whatever Weitering was doing was terrible. All up, just a bad game.

And of course our last 5 minutes. We have held our nerve so well recently, so to just blow the game with bad errors like that...

To be honest, last year we seemed to blow up around this point and lost 9 straight, as injuries carried in from preseason mounted and legs just looked bad. We almost had to rebuild from.scratch and it took 4-5 weeks after that point. Bloody hope we aren't in the same situation here...

Why play two rucks? We are a man down when ever we play two rucks. Don’t know what was going through wetering’s head lets play 30m off my opponent the whole game.
The game started terrible with Weitering playing too far up the ground and allowing us to be exposed on the turn over in the back line. Weiters did it the entire game,he was running around in circles like a chook without a head.
Terrible game overall. Never deserved to win that. The Crows were smashing us in the midfield most of the day and they were way too fast for us.

Walsh absolutely sensational. A class above and comfortably our best player. Stark contrast with anyone else in the side with his burst from clearance and ability to get from contest to contest.

Also our cleanest tackler on the day, put some of the others to shame.

One thing that’s unmistakable at the ground: Boyd’s kicking is outrageously good.

Perfect delivery to both key forwards at crucial times, both missed the subsequent shot on goal.
Yes, his kicking is outrageously good. But he is in the team as a defender and he can’t defend 1 on 1. He has great desperation but just loses his opponent too easily. No one wants to comment on that because he has been painted on this board as some type of gun. He is nothing more than a work in progress.
When you add McGovern and Weitering refusing to pay their opponents any respect we will lose more than we will win.
They kicked accurately today because they had easy shots because of really poor defence.

This is getting weird Arr0w. So you want people to outline how many wins and losses they expect us to get this year, and then just accept the losses when they come, without analysis, as long as those losses are within your nominated expectations?

Should we just shut down the board and come back in September?

Not at all

I'm interested in where we are as a team versus the competition as a whole, not after a few wins or 1 loss

We are definitely lacking a quality mid sized or small forward.
Not sure Fantasia or E Hollands are going to make a point of difference.
We can only expect half a season from Martin based on history.
E Hollands is dripping with class.

Time slows when he has the ball.

Suspect he’s a boba fide mid, rather than HFF.
