Bring Pitto in and you lose the improvement in McKay (who is thriving in Ruck/Fwd role) and extra mid.

Benefits of playing one ruck are way more than what Pittonet brings IMO
Also TDK, Charlie and Harry are not a good combination in the forward line. Too top heavy, Kemp would add more mobility.

Maybe positioning? How he works with other defenders?
What we see and what coaches see often quite different.
Both read the play well, and synergy with the other defenders is valid and something that continuity to improve.

Marchbank is a high risk of never getting that continuity. Struggles to make quick decisions and is iffy by foot. Both the coaches and we can see that.

He's been playing there all year?
I suppose we could try honoring his positions up forward a little more, think we've burned him a few times.

Agree. I don't think personnel is the biggest issue. More about how we deliver it. Numerous times we have gone forward and smaller forwards have made space and are on their own yet we bomb it to Charlie/McKay.

IMO at times we need to lower our eyes and be better with our entries.

Purely from observation and extrapolation, I would say he is more match fit than he has been for two years.

The bloke has worked through adversity since that knee “clash” with Darcy. Vision of the last VFL game showed him running on top of the ground (as much as a lumbering ruck can) another conditioning week later, I have no doubt he would be ready to shoulder the load.

While not perfect, TDK has come on in leaps and bounds this season. Aside from his improved output, I have been impressed with his endurance and resilience. It has been a long journey, but Tom is ready to be our ruck “King”.

Harry has benefitted from his ruck minutes. Some talls need that heart starter in a game, to get their mitts on the pill and build into the contest. No longer is Harry condemned to toil against an over zealous stopper given extra leeway by lenient umpiring which tends to even the contest for a backman faced with a powerful and athletic forward to stop. He can take a run on the ball, with the relative freedom or escaping a tag. Combined with the willingness of Crippa, Chugga and others to chop out in the ruck, we seem better served by the one prime ruck model.

At this stage, I see it counterproductive bringing Pitto in and limiting TDK ‘s ruck minutes as a first choice. I do see the advantage of working the two in tandem selectively to keep both up to the mark on occasion. Pre season, I expected Tom to need “managing” if trusted with the first ruck role, and that may be the case through the season, but for now he seems to be “growing” with the role. That extra 10% of development cannot be found playing third banana forward and extra bench time.

I have more time for Pitto than many, but too many supporters/posters are too enamoured with raw statistics to apply the eye test when calling for his return.

Our big blokes will get tired and/or sore during the year, we have the mix to manage them to ensure that the list hits September fit and fresh as opposed to toughing out each match. I really want our match committee to embrace role rotation and resting if necessary.

I see Tom getting better at everything except putting the ball to the feet or in to the hands of our mids, it’s something that i hope we are really working on, every where else he is improving, although i did notice two bad errors that directly led to goals on the weekend, we are still early in the season and the sample size is small, but hopefully the connection with the midfield group starts to improve.

Think Fog might be a bigger loss than we expect. Has his limitations but he’s our most reliable forward for pressure and tackling. Clean over the ball in traffic and generally makes good decisions. Not easy to replace especially given the other injuries we’ve got.

Actually think that’s the best mix. TDK take the SOS role and comes in and jumps all over the second ruck.
Keeps TDK fresh for later in the season when Pitto inevitably gets injured also.

I’d like to see the setup very soon, it’s really strange we’ve lost our most identifiable asset in the contest and the only things that have really changed are Walsh and Pitto. Walsh will help no doubt but I think Pitto will help even more and I’d like to be proven wrong/right sooner rather than later.

TDK is quicker than SOS and a better mark, and everyone wanted SOS to be the 3rd tall and second ruck
Only thing SOS beats TDK on is effort and that gap is closing very quickly

Need our small forwards to be first to the drop of the ball and creating shots on goal rather than being second and getting tackles I50

Need a 3rd marking target I50 as none of the Smalls are good marks like a Lincoln McCarthy.

Starting to just bomb It too often and CC needs to get more mobile. Need more uncontested marks I50

Marchy was just rusty AF vs Roos. If he effectively shook off the cobwebs in that game then bring him back in. Unlike Kemp who could potentially be trialed up forward, it’s defence or bust tor Marchy. That said, for the sake of continuity, it’d be better for kemp’s development to be played in his primary position. Not sure then if they play both unless Kemp moves forward. A good problem to have.
Nick Duigan says hi!

Word filtering through from West Lakes that, if the Crows fail to break their duck against Carlton this weekend, the show Hawaii Five-O will be banned in Adelaide, because it would remind Crows fans of the ladder :).
No longer the Camry Crows. Now the Audi Crows.

My only worry is that Essendon was so bad against us, that they could provide Adelaide with their first win next week.

Which is why we miss JSOS and Martin up forward as the 3rd marking option. Changes the whole dynamic of our forward half.

We've become too predictable up forward with 2 main targets and not a lot else. Personally, I'd be bringing Pitto back in (who was excellent last week in the VFL), and rotating TDK though the forward half and ruck. It may seem top heavy, but Charlie and H are both mobile talls, so can play high or deep.

In the absence of a medium forward at the moment, having the 3rd genuine marking option also opens up our forward half stretching their defence, so the opposition can't just flood back where H and Charles are situated - which in turn brings our smalls into the game with a more open forward half.

Having said that, if we opt to bring Marchy in, then Kemp should definitely go forward. He's played there before on many occasions, so it's not just a case of dropping him in there.
