I don't think we should rush into it but at some stage we should push Williams up into the midfield and/or HHF roles. He'd be our gulden/miers I reckon. Distributing the ball nicely to our forwards on a lead.

We've got enough players to slingshot off half back in saaad boyd and guv.

100% have been saying that since last year.

I agree that this is a massive danger game. They’ll be up for it and we’re coming off a hard slog with two days less break.

It's a danger game because we still haven't hit our strides. It has the feeling still a bit like the start of last year where we were winning but it didn't feel quite right and we were falling over the line. It was Round 5 against the Crows last year where we fell off a cliff. We're better than that now, but winning has also made people forget that we're hardly flying.

Interestingly he was traded to us to play in the midfield. However, he wasnt fit enough when he arrived and then the knee injury hit.

He's finding his feet quickly since returning.

It would definitely elevate our offensive game. Not only is he a deceptive (good side step), he has composure and is a good kick so perfect for that role i reckon.

I'd say 15 wins outta last 17 games is hitting our stride and continuing to stride. You should go and work with the boys from the couch and talk up gws Sydney and Melbourne. Mark my words we will win the premiership this year.

We well and truly hit our stride late last year and it felt like it. The start of this year feels more like the start of last year.

It's fine in the sense we want to peak at the right time. But we aren't peaking and this week is a danger game.

I won't be relaxed about any game until the midfield "ground ball get" part of the game is fixed. I think the side isn't anywhere near its end of 2023 form meanwhile Melbourne/GWS/Sydney are already playing at that level. Need to win this one because the next seven games are a lot harder based on form of opposition coming up .

Fingers crossed on this one for mine - based on a very ordinary performance against Fremantle.

I wouldn't say that this is a danger game, but it feels important in the context of our season for the simple fact that the next 7 rounds after this will all be against finals contenders. A game against the crows in round 5 followed by a run of games against good teams is exactly what put us in a hole last year. This is a chance to show how far we have come in 12 months.

I’m on the fence regarding Kennedys role this year and feel Voss is picking him based on him being a good player rather than being a good player for his position.

Although I’m sceptical, we are four games in and Matt has four goals and is averaging 14 touches per game and 2.5 tackles.

I know Kennedy can find more of the ball and tackle more, if he can maintain his goal kicking he will be a solid addition and he doesn’t need to increase his output by much to reach quality output.

If he continues to improve he will be a great player going forward
Kennedy is an interesting one. A goal a game and 14 touches. When you stack that up against the holy grail of a goal and 20 touches a game which has only been averaged across a season by a handful of players a handful of times going right back to the Richard Wilkins pre botox days,
It's not a bad return playing a hybrid sort of HF / Mid rotation / 3rd fwd role. Albeit 4 games.

His strength in the contest is a real asset. I'm a standard strength fan of his but see him through a prevailing asset rather than liability lense so maybe slightly biased. However I have felt he has been one of the standard achievers doing his role ssatisfactorily as per Cotters, etal.

As we have moved to a system based game plan with better list. The sum of a lot of these roles being done is hard to quantify via individual stats. As long as we keep banking wins not overly fussed who executes those roles.

Yeah, 4 game is a small sample size for those sort of stats.
You take away the goal for Clark swearing in the last 40 seconds, when the ball is dead and suddenly he's at 0.67 goals a game, not nearly as good.

At a raw statistical level it's decent output for a medium forward. It's pretty much what Hayward puts out, and I and others are interested in him (pending cost).

I think the difference is that Kennedy looks like he's good for a goal a game as a forward. He's there, at some point he'll get on the end of one. Last week he got a second because of a Jordan Clarke brain fade.

But other goal-a-game forwards are bit more feast/famine. They'll have games where they kick 3-4, and others where they're well held and don't trouble the scoreboard.

Kennedy has kicked multiple goals 4 times in the last 4 and a bit seasons. Last time he kicked more than 2 was in 2019. Now his role hasn't always been as a forward, so there's some justification for that. But he's not looking like a Martin, Petracca, Heeney type who can go forward and have a day out.

As you say, limited sample size so far, so maybe he'll pull one out of the bag soon. But on the eye test, he's occupying space in the forward line, but he's not threatening a big game and it doesn't look like it's because he's dragging a quality defender away from the key forwards in a sacrificial role.
