Currently thinking one of the following:

1711456455383.png

1711456420834.png

Currently have a 3 premo backline (Naicos, Stewart, Young) and relying on Hore at D6. Have Bont, Green, Serong, Butters, Touk in the mids, and Jackson, Heeney in the forwards.

First option severely depletes my ~$50k bank, but keeps me at 12 premos and moves Howes to D6.

Second option corrects two cash gen errors (the dingleBerrys) and builds a war chest for next week. Does move me to 11 premos and having to play 8 rookies this week though. Would need to cull another FWD rook early next week if Darcy proves a must have as well (probably Reid or Sexton).

Thoughts?

Option 2 for me. Sheezel won't be out of reach any time soon. Powell very well could be (no point after 2 or 3 big price rises). a big warchest will come handy for your first upgrades..

Food for thought though.. NWM is about 80k cheaper, could be an option. Not sure about needing Sharp so badly and Coffield can wait a week with 2 tigers on the bubble..

Also. Your midfield makes me very.. frisky.

Cheers for that.

NWM is a silky smooth player, but feels like a trap to me. Sheezel is all but certain to be top 6, which is what I would want if I'm trading in NWM. Nowhere near sold on that considering the situation with Sinclair.

As for Sharp, I would need to get rid of both Berrys to get Powell in, which means I need someone in that MID spot. Prefer him to Carroll. Coffield would be necessary to free up another DEF spot for Mass, and I know won't make any more money, so not giving up a small bit of cash gen for it. 🤷‍♂️

Also with Powell, I probably need to just go watch those games a bit more closely, but it seems that he mainly got his stats in quarters where North's midfield was dominating. Every other quarter he was getting around 5 touches and maybe a tackle. Considering he has Carlton and Lions in the next two, how sustainable is this scoring?

He scored pretty well against the giants in a game the giants controlled, 95 in a loss is pretty good

I've seen these episodes before in SC with these value buys. Most full time mids average 90+ just because of their role. Not sure I want to miss this boat.
You're probably right, I'm just wary of the power of groupthink which can lead us astray too. Tom Berry the latest example.

Billings to an extent too. Fyfe maybe. Fisher has burnt many already. The braintrust is a bit chaotic, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

If we look at facts instead of speculation on role, all the speculative picks haven't played full time mid. Powell has. The repurcussions of not getting Powell far outweigh the benefits of him going to shite. He's set for a juicy price rise already, so if he was to go to shite, it would be an easy upgrade.

One of
Kertcher
Carroll
Dempsey

Kertcher more likely to score well. Other 2 prob make more cash / leaves more money in the bank for upgrades
McKercher easily. A rookie you don't need to worry about looping is invaluable.

Besides, a 90 average gets him well above $400k, so it's certainly not a given that Carroll or Dempsey make more money than him. Even an 80 average will see him earn $200k.

I guess the other side of it is that Powell has shown he can match Sheezel in ceiling (though probably not consistency), so it's potentially only a slight decrease in points per week for a $240k discount.

Think you and Caz are convincing me haha.

Like it. I’d probably save the boost on Coff>Pink though.
I'm in the same boat. I think it's worth it to have a D7 cover, along with his potential price rises. A few more 60's and you're laughing.

If you pass on Pink this week, will be a choice of him or Brown next week for the same price. Tresize maybe if he goes well. A dilemma for many who have both Coffield and Zeid.

The scenario of having D7, D8 and R3 as dead rookies, so early on, with no defensive cover in case of late outs... is dangerous.

Is Dempsey a MUST HAVE?

I had to trade Gibcus, Newcombe, Rankine, for Ambrosio, Serong, and Powell.

Ambrosio because I have 3 rookies defenders out long term.
Newcombe set to drop heaps, and be out of range of Miller, Rowell, Steele etc. So figured to jump on Serong whilst he is hot.
Rankine I could wait another week and cop the drop. But Powell may be out of reach after this week.

Still got to deal with Martin and Young too if they both spud it again. So it means I miss out on Carroll and Dempsey.

Wondering if I should focus on getting Dempsey at the expense of one of the three trades above?

Rankines be is 83 he's averaging 89.
What drop?

I believe so. This would be the team if i did those trades.

Very nice team you’ve got there.

I suppose you should just weigh up the pros and cons.

I only play this game for fun, and unless you’re playing cash leagues and have something on the line then wasting trades early and getting your team set is really no biggie biggie biggie.

At absolute best, the Wines/Young/Martin trio come good and become a serviceable M8/D5/D6, but to achieve that they’d need a Significant uptick on their current output.

At worst, you started them as stepping stones to better players.
Ryan and Serong are looking like they’ll be there or thereabouts at the pointy end all things being equal, and Powell could end up being a handy cow, or even an F6 by the end of the season.

With 40 trades and a chance to strengthen your squad even further, I’d probably go for those trades.

Cash gen looks set, cows are mooing nicely, and your structure looks mint.

Good luck.

I too have had a bit of a rough start. Done okay with Rooks but been let down by a few premos (Looking at you Duke)

This is what I've done - What would you do to try an fix this up?

Tough one mate, Kerch and Powell look like must have cows at this stage.

However, If those trades make you happier with your team structure then go for it.
