Decided to trade the maxed out/not selected rookies as part of a combination that sees me turn Grundy into Rozee. I am interested in both Meek & JHF but i wasnt prepared to get them at the expense of rookies/cows with more cash to be made and i dont see either as keepers in the long run so i have gone for Comben early - which obviously allowed me to trade both Howes & Sexton who are dead to me.

Most, if not all, rookies/cash cows should reach their BEs this round. I think Massimo & McKercher are most likely to be traded next round along with Cadman. Those 3 will likely go to Graham, Ramsden & Heeney.

set on bringing gawn in for grundy so team looks like this for now

tossing up between

hore-clohesly (get a 22 on field, will likely go campbell howes out and then d'ambrosio/mckercher/clark into a premium upgrade week after)

or

mckercher massimo-clohsely martin(would be fielding 21 but getting a premium(martin) in a week early, (likely howes campbell out next week and no upgrade)

cant seem to figure out a way to get gawn and steele in this round

also dependent on whether clark is named as heard he might be rested

not the most worried about defensive depth with several players able to swing from mid to def after rd6 but would be open to maybe trading young back in?

thoughts?

how much more money are ppl expecting d'ambrosio and mckercher to make? has their been any news on whether mckercker will be playing mid more
Both can eek another $20-30k out probably, but without a spike game 80+ they are nearly done. I'm going to hold Mass until Rd7 (baring disaster) as he will be much easier to trade out then.

I'd argue you're better off getting Tom Brown than going early on Comben. If either or both of Ramsden or Graham aren't attractive trade ins, you've already gotten the two boys who will be on the bubble, so you could struggle to trade.

I definitely wouldn't be putting any eggs in Ramsden's basket with Lewis coming back shortly.

You can get Brown in for 14k less than Comben, and save Comben for another week. Means you'd have to field Cadman or Wilson up forward but shouldn't matter too much with best 18.

didnt get to watch the game, was brown really that impressive for people to trade him in after a price rise?

Flanders vs Martin

Note if I go Martin, I will have to field Cadman instead of Sharp this week.

The plan the whole time was to go Jordan to Flanders this week but with Martin looking like a top 6 defender wondering if it's better to grab Martin now given he presents more value.

I'd go Flanders. There is more top scoring defender options that you can grab later so get the forward while you can.

I’m in two minds what to do this….

Masso, Mcker and Lazzo to clohsey, Comben and Steele….
or
Howes to Clohsey and bank cash for next week. Above rookies can moo little more.
Whatever delivers more points. Only point waiting is Closehy & Comben not being on the bubble. Gotta risk it with the amount of trades we started with.

I'd prefer to go early on Comben. Easier to palm off a 230k dead rook than a 102k one.

I think it really depends where that extra money is going, for me personally i need to get sexy Flanders in as i think his close to 100k undervalue still so cant sleep on him anymore

Ive been one of the few voices on the Hawks board pushing for Meek for the last 12 months. He can certainly play and i think his by far our best ruck BUT he needs to be the solo ruck.

Sam is certainly sold on the solo ruck this year given the recruitment of Chol and emergence of Ramsden. This is a bigger positive then people think as Sam can more confidentially play one ruck (no risk of Reeves and Meek playing)

The only risk for Meek to be dropped is if Reeves has good form and Meek's drops off, this is not on the immediate horizon as Reeves was horrible at Box Hill and Meek played probably the best ruck game the Hawks have seen in 3 years

His not going to average more then Grundy, his more a 90s man but this should still get us 100-150k with a bit of luck

I'm surprised at all the love for Comben a week early tbh.

So far he has played 9 games in 4 years.

Before last week, his career average was 42 and his best ever score was 46 points lower than what he got on the weekend.

I know that may be a silly thing to bring up as his role is completely different - but even then, he is playing as a key defender at North Melbourne. Key defense is typically a low scoring role and has especially been so at North (look at McKay, Pink, Logue, Dawson, Corr, etc).

If he was priced like other rookies (i.e. 120K) then sure but at $227K, he needs to average 80+ to make the necessary coin.

I'd want to see what he does this week before I jumped on personally.

I think purely from a scoring perspective and the ball living down in North’s backline, he has greater opportunity than someone like Clohesy who everyone is jumping on this week early.

Playing down back behind the ball is much less gruelling on the body and he reads the play incredibly well.

I also think he’ll have a licence to play more as a zoning intercept type rather than your typical KPD lock down as that would be more suited to Dawson/Corr. Happy to be proven wrong though!

How dumb is it to go early on both Gold Coast rookies?

Billings > Graham via Wilson
Howes > Clohsey

Both Howes and Billings will likely lose money if they stay in but bringing in two players off 1 game never tends to go well. It would then make it simple to get Heeney next week.

Or is there a better move here?

Do you think that Dawson and Corr can do the job against Hawkins and Cameron, or is Comben a better matchup? Not sure he has the wheels to go with either TBH

Can you change a traded in player for another player during rolling lockout after the traded out player has played?

Eg. Trade out Neale (playing Thursday night) and trade in Rozee (playing Saturday night).

Then tomorrow AFTER Neale has played trade Rozee to Serong (both play Saturday night) without using another trade. So the total amount of trades is still 1.

I think you def wait at his price, but he's not playing key defense, he's playing the Stewart role. They already have two primary key defenders playing which you mentioned.

He's past scoring he was key forward and back up ruck .

This is the first time we've seen him as a defender .

he was very good last week.
Very Small samplesize tho.
