Okay so I've been planning Wardlaw > JHF and Sexton > Darcy all week.

But I had bit of a look and did some forward planning and I can do Howes > Clohesy and Sexton > JHF.

Gets me JHF without losing Wardlaw.

Means letting Darcy go, but I've decided I'm cool with that. Got Dempsey at F6, Darcy would have been getting looped anyway. And I still won't be surprised if he turns out to have JS issues/need regular rests/score inconsistently.

And if Comben has another good game in defence, he may be more worthy of a coveted spot in the Grasscutters forward line. I simply can't fit them all in.

Wardlaw gets one more week to suddenly decide to start breaking out, and Clohesy at D6 looks better than Howes, who has the bye next week anyway and a pooey BE.

Am I insane for bringing Jeremy Mcgovern in? Hes having a cracker year and only $550k....but hes 31 and could spontaneously break into pieces at any moment

His numbers this year look amazing and make him tempting...

But I just can't do it. The guy is a former multiple All Australian gun interceptor but has actually never averaged more than 91 (2017) for a season in his entire career. He also hasn't missed fewer than 7 games in any of the last 4 seasons (and is obviously a veteran playing in the worst team that is focussed on full rebuild - so won't be played whenever he is 50/50).

Only to confirm that view is that there are lots of other much lower risk options at that price point (or about to be). Daicos and Sheezel are premium young guns that cost similar and are guaranteed to be top 8 defenders. Nic Martin and Hayden Young are cheaper, younger and much less likely to miss multiple games/fall off a cliff. Stewart, Sinclair and Sicily are all premiums who are dropping some $$ to be in that price range in the next week or two. Hell, even Lachie Whitfield (who has plenty of injury risk himself) at least has scoring history, is younger and is playing for a top team.

Could be a masterstroke but I'm staying well away.

Which rookies would you be expecting to drop out in either scenario?

It's not a choice of Martin + Howes vs. Young + McKercher over 2 weeks for example - if your M8 score is just as likely to drop out over your D6 score, then it really comes down to Martin vs. Young - who do you back to score more?

Not sure I fully get you.

My side is very unbalanced right now. I currently have McKercher at M9 and Howes at D4! If I bring in Martin as well, I'll have Sanders at M9 and McKercher at M10 but still have Howes, Brown and Coffield (probably become Closehy) at D4-D6. Not keen to push mids averaging 80's to the bench to have defenders (and forwards) averaging 50's on field. Even with Best 18 only, I feel I'm likely to be including much lower scores into my 18 with that set up.

Yep. I'm getting him in - he's not getting much love on here though!

I got him in last week and am hoping everyone passes in favour of Closehy (which does make sense for the reasons SC Fish mentioned) and then Brown turns out to be the pick of the bunch in a backline struggling for rookies. Would really help make up for the fact I've missed the Sharp and Dempsey trains (and am getting on Darcy for $80K more than everyone else).

This year, you can throw out the trading rules book - take some chances & do what you want

Should I trade Fisher to Martin this round or wait til he is a DEF?
It means I would use Mannagh as a FWD who might not play.
Have 21 others playing.

I'd do it. Martin is a big upgrade on Fisher IMO, is about to go up 30 odd K and 21 playing for the next two weeks is fine (with a few fwd rookie options on their way if needed).

I’m getting both brown and clohesy this week

This is Lloyd Meek and my team atm.

Just can't make up my mind:)

Are you wavering because you don't think he will continue to score decently?

Or is it more to do with other priorities or structure in your SC team?
I like the cash gen potential, if he can continue at 90+, and the immediate increase to the Bank balance. I'm not 100% sold on his JS. Reeves played Rounds 1 & 2, Meek Rounds 3 & 4. If Meek has two 'bad' weeks in a row now, does Sam bring Reeves back?

Trade plan would be something like:

1. Grundy to Meek (This opens the door for me to get Heeney next week in one trade)
2. Rookie downgrade to get cash for Gawn.
3. Meek to Gawn

It's likely only one extra trade I guess, but if Grundy continues to go at 105-110, he could be a very late upgrade, rather than taking this 'risk'.

Structure wise, I'm reasonably comfortable. Started with Daicos, Sheezel, Young, and NWM in defence. I have 4 premo mids (Bont, Serong, Green, Steele) + Parfitt in the mids. English/Grundy. Forwards are Jackson, Flanders, Powell + Rookies.

So, for structure the Grundy to Meek trade would get one rookie off the field in my forwards next week, which is a positive. If I don't trade, I'm waiting a bit longer for rookies to moo, before upgrading.

Not the OP but I think if Meek had fwd eligibility (which I'm surprised he doesn't given he played in a 2 ruck system with Reeves last year, resting forward) then everyone would be getting him in.

For those that have Jackson rotating with Livingstone and/or 2 premium rucks already, I don't think he's necessarily the best option.

I don't have either (got Gawn and Grundy) but am still more likely to pass. I don't think Grundy is a must sell - he's averaging over 100, will play first ruck every game (with a good scoring history) and his break even is relatively low. Very tempted to go Jordon to Meek (via Livingstone) and have Meek cover Grundy this week and Gawn next week. Thing is, in 2 weeks time, when we're back to full 22, I'll need to trade either Grundy or Meek out (and then may still need to use another trade later this year to upgrade whoever stays to a proper premium). For many - this is probably the play but I perhaps have a little more faith in Grundy than most and don't want to waste trades getting rd of players who are doing fine and are underpriced when there are so many other improvement required. It feels more like a move I'd make when my team is nearly set and I have trades up my sleeve.

Still could be convinced though.

I'm disappointed in your confidence of our Lord and Savior Meek

I think it really depends where that extra money is going, for me personally i need to get sexy Flanders in as i think his close to 100k undervalue still so cant sleep on him anymore

Ive been one of the few voices on the Hawks board pushing for Meek for the last 12 months. He can certainly play and i think his by far our best ruck BUT he needs to be the solo ruck.

Sam is certainly sold on the solo ruck this year given the recruitment of Chol and emergence of Ramsden. This is a bigger positive then people think as Sam can more confidentially play one ruck (no risk of Reeves and Meek playing)

The only risk for Meek to be dropped is if Reeves has good form and Meek's drops off, this is not on the immediate horizon as Reeves was horrible at Box Hill and Meek played probably the best ruck game the Hawks have seen in 3 years

His not going to average more then Grundy, his more a 90s man but this should still get us 100-150k with a bit of luck

So after deliberating for far too long, I’ve decided on:

Leaving me with a team looking like this …

Screen Shot 2024-04-11 at 12.23.44 pm.png

B Grundy –> L Meek

B Howes –> H Young

Z Fisher –> N Martin

Can anyone see other alternatives that I may have missed?

Was trading out Daicos "madness" ?? They'll be getting him back shortly.
I bet many traded out Dawson to a different Primo and didnt regret it.

When a guy is 650K with a monster BE they are on the market as far as i;m concerned.
People will spend trades for just 100K from a rook downgrade....at least i get 2 primo's in my mids instead of 1, and another rook off the field.

Yep. I like it too. I'm leaning to trading out Serong for Nedily-Noodley.
Definitely top 6 Forward + $100k.
(Tag imminent this week aside of course... 🤐)

how much more money are ppl expecting d'ambrosio and mckercher to make? has their been any news on whether mckercker will be playing mid more
