Yeah that's the smart play I think. Hodor could go down at any point of the season too.

Flanders has the bye in round 3, could always make him an early upgrade if he's going well.

Seems English has still lingering concussion related issues from last year and is being held back from contact drills mid January. Big red flag for me. He doesn't have a history of miracle fast recoveries either.

I've had him R1 since my first team I haven't heard anything bad so maybe just easing him into a big season as solo ruck

There is no doubt he could wear down, but that’s no different to any other ruckman, it’s a combative position to play.

With the happenings at Melbourne over recent months etc I suspect the captain will want to prove a point.
