No, the Cats model has been used to manage both young & aging stars with this approach Wayne as they transition their list.

We now have around 30 quality AFL players so we are absolutely in a great position to rotate them to keep them fresh.

Why else have posters being struggling to fit all the players they want into their 23?
Again you're taking managing rookies in 3-4 game blocks, which has been occurring since Adam was a boy .....and we have always done it as well, to the chagrin of supporters

That's not a new innovation !

I do agree though, Clubs these days, are less likely to play injured players ....whereas previously they did, if not just to attract good opposition players

Again, the reason we have a week off B4 the Finals, is because Finals teams rested players .....so really there's nothing new, apart from my prior points

Why?

Probably the second best ruck in the league, and does less than nothing to improve their results.
As I said sheezel one of the best kids in the country and Nick Larkey one of the best forwards in the country have also done nothing to improve results.

You're now talking about actually important positions.

Having a good ruckman is the least influential position on the ground
You’re talking about the ruck part though.
You can’t tell me having an extra footballer on the field wouldn’t help.

Great interview with J.R during the week.

Excellent chat. Reidy is a very strong asset for our club and list management results (retention, attraction, pick swaps) now proving that

From the horses mouth saying it’s hard to attract players to SA. “Fishing from a bird bath rather than the sea”.

Ps can anyone else recommend good Crows (or even overall AFL) podcasts to fill the gaps over the summer? Sensible crow seems very good and I k ow Feenix does one also. Any others worth listening to? Any input appreciated

PPS like how he mentioned Goad, Barnett and Dodson (offering him a cat B opportunity this year) and subtlety saying we may look to poach back at some point

I agree it’s not the most important and likely bottom quartile importance but surely a below average hff (Murphy) is LESS detrimental to a teams success than a below average ruckman (Strachan)?

Yet one of the most influential AFL clubs in modern times always seem to have young ruckmen developing behind their current incumbent.

Absolutely no doubt if Toby Conway hadn't had such a wretched run with injury he'd have taken over their lead ruck mantle from Stanley by now.

Yet they drafted Mitch Edwards last year and again this draft drafted another in SA's Jacob Molier, are they wrong? I think not.

You will also note they don't appear to have a lot of interest in recruiting mature aged rucks of late preferring to develop their own from the draft.

They also have the 204cm Sam Dekoning also a very capable ruck if required.

...
I totally thought Sam Draper must have been Sid Draper's older brother but no just same surname and from South Adelaide - there you go
If you follow draft threads you've probably heard of his older brother Arlo Draper. There were some people in here that were keen on him but he didn't get drafted.

Edit. He did get drafted actually to Collingwood. Must have been delisted.

Sure - we probably agree. I think a lot of rucks are just taking up space in the 22. Prioritise what someone can contribute that isn't hitouts and don't have a wasted spot in the lineup.

Most clubs just have a tall lump running around though, and it doesn't seem to impact whether they're successful.

Neddy was defending ROB on 5aa the other week stating..

"He's one of the most underrated players in the Comp.
I challenge anyone to bring me stats to argue otherwise"

Rowey responded, "I call him Symbols McGee...He can't mark"

Neddy "Show me Rowey, show me anyone who's better"

Are you talking about Geelong?

They haven't had a decent ruckman since Ottens retired almost 15 years ago. And yet they've been incredibly successful.

They may have young tall kids on their list - but they've won flags with ruckmen the standard of Rhys Stanley leading the way.

Rowey should have just responded with “why was he dropped?”

McHenry would be the worst possible person to go to for objective commentary about ROB. Well second worst next to ROB's mum.

While on a short radio segment where nobody else other than the hosts had the opportunity to do so.
It is talk back radio & would be the most popular drive time sports show.
He even said get back to me next week.
He truly believes it.

Which explains why we're an average club, we focus far too much on stats and ignore outcome. We award max b&f votes to our midfield even when their opposition has smoked them. We judge a hacked kick off one step down the throat of a loose defender equal to an opponent's pressureless kick to the advantage of their target. The Thor/Roo social interaction a few years ago told us all we need to know. We're a stats driven system and until that changes, our ceiling will remain bottom half of top 8.

Yep 100%. It was obviously coming from somewhere other than
"he's a mate & a really good bloke"

Driving up his free agency contract - could be a future player manager
