Would Burgess be vastly worse for overall team performance than ROB?

He'd win a few less taps, but it's easy for the midfield to adjust to that. And he does more around the ground.

If ROB goes down, we pick someone up midyear.
Seriously...
Did you really post this?

Win a few less taps?

Sounds like Draper is the likely option so at least he is free trade/draft wise. Is he even an upgrade on ROB? Don’t want to be paying him silly money to attract as agreed it’s not an important posn UNLESS you have a non competitive dud ruckman like Strachan was against Tiges (can’t see how he possibly survives on the list past 2025)
Draper is a clear downgrade on ROB.

Dont want draper the guy is a flog and avg at best id try to get henry smith back from brisbane or the kid who went to west coast in 2 years time
We may not have 2 years, if the rumours about ROB wanting to go to Melbourne to study are true.

The advantage of getting Draper is that he's a FA, so he wouldn't cost us anything in terms of draft capital. The disadvantage is that we'd be stuck with a bog ordinary ruckman, a clear downgrade on ROB, for the next 5 years.

Assuming none of the players really regress (excluding Tex, Smith as senior veteran players), Sholl, if he keeps up his good form may be one we look to strategically allow to explore options to get some extra draft collateral. we are covered in his position quite well and is he plays next year like last, he will have decent value. We may have one or 2 others who are in a similar position - maybe its time to start making hay by being strategic in trading out to trade up so to speak
Agree next year is the first time we look to offload players - likely for second round draft picks - otherwise it’s hardly worth doing.

Obvious candidates - Sholl, Berry, I do think Nank and even chance of one of our KPD if they get pissed at not playing due to position squeeze (likely Butts or Keane to request a trade)

Offloading players and focusing on at least one truly QUALITY in per year. NWM seems a likely candidate for next year and also clearly needing ruck/s and also another KPF (a better Burgess / Berg)

I guess we could pass up a 4x premiership coach too given how bed north are.
No need for a Harry sheezel or Nick Larkey either.
This seems like you’re wildly missing the point of his post

That said, I do think we need to upgrade on ROB if possible, to get better

I’m not.
It just a terrible example to try and show that a ruck doesn’t matter.

Why does it feel like that?
Weren’t people saying that this year?
Surely if so we would have picked up a ruck?
The Draper stuff is only rumor, and we have some saying he wants to come home and the others saying he won’t come home?
If we had the time - ie RoB staying 3 more years - then a development ruck - Dodson is a no brainer

By thinking we dont have time we could be putting our resources into a semi-competent ruck replacement

I think his point is we’d still have been shit in 2024 even if we had a high level ruck

I definitely think in order to actually get over the competing edge, we need to upgrade - that ruck doesn’t need to be world-class, just solid enough

I’d be going after someone that can football well and ruck second.

No it wasn’t, read his other posts, he’s saying recruiting a ruck isn’t as important as the other recruits we got

That's not where our team is though Kane

Our next stage of development is playing lots of games with the same players next to you .....instinctively knowing what your teammate alongside & in front of you is going to do

This has been a key team developmental component for ever .....however I heard the other day it being reinforced when this was the answer given to the question; "How does a team go from being a good team to a great team"

The Cats Model, is more simply managing its many ageing stars, as we are with Tex .....you won't find NORTH rotating players, they're in the same position as us ......you also didn't see BRIS or SYD rotating players
No, the Cats model has been used to manage both young & aging stars with this approach Wayne as they transition their list.

We now have around 30 quality AFL players so we are absolutely in a great position to rotate them to keep them fresh.

Why else have posters being struggling to fit all the players they want into their 23?

Okay I definitely disagree with that, at least from a priority perspective
Yes, I am saying that recruiting a ruck is unimportant, because it's the least important position on the ground.

How many times does it have to be shown that clubs are successful with absolutely mediocre rucks? They just don't matter that much.
