The off-season so the media scratching about looking for angles and stories. Slim pickings.

Just on Ross. After the loss to GWS in the final his media appearances showed he was a shattered man in the following days. He was really hurting. Not satisfied at all that they had even got to the finals against the odds.

But his angst seemed to be directed more at himself and the coaches about how to better prepare. Even Chris Scott told him to calm down. Phenomenal standards and a very driven man. Very few people have the focus and energy to keep that up for any length of time.

Living with it as a colleague must be tough, but I think he’s mellowed to a degree. Lucky he seems to have extremely driven assistant coaches.

Doesn’t seem he will let much get in the way of ultimate success, and I for one am extremely happy about it. Collateral damage will probably go with the territory. The only way we will forge a path to a second Premiership.

Whether he had much to do directly with Lethlean’s departure is open for debate. But it was probably more Lethlean’s problems that Ross’s. Didn’t want the CEO too near the football dept. Ross always going to win that one.

Apart from Boris, all other assistants have played under Lyon and would understand the intensity and methods.

Pfft Kane Cornes

All I know is I enjoyed last year under RTB a shlt load more then any of the previous 10 years and we will only get better this year
My oath. Lyon has brought so much more to the club than just wins.
Someone said it is a bit like Roos giving the souls back to Sydney.
Bassett has the admin humming, and despite our discussions on certain staff going, I am on board with Bassatt and Lyon.
Last season was not Lyon's list, the players had to learn a new system over preseason, had a shocking run with injuries but was still the only club bar the Premiers to be in the 8 all year.
Lyon got the defence right, now put over 100 games into first and second year players ( Lyon can't develop apparently), got what he wanted in trades and draft and will now develop the attack.
So I don't care who gets the arse, Gallagher, Toce, Lethlean, Roughhead, if we get on field results I will support what Lyon does.
Enright has shown, you don't need to be a Lyon crony if you are good at your job.
Lenny, bj, Harvs, Enright, SoS, Allen, Misson, Dalrymple are all proven football people and are at least as competent as those who they replaced.
Good results this year and arguments over personnel will be insignificant.

Says everything about Enright that he is the only assistant left from the Ratten years. May not have worked under Lyon but has been in the dominant Geelong system which can only be good.

Good posting lately mate.

This is very important.

Many a coach has been burnt out under Lyons methods.
He has high standards and needs people to match him.

The reason he has been given the power to make the calls in the football department is because he needs to trust those employed can his standards and expectations.

You left out Damian Carroll, reckon he is more important than the coaches.

Thats believing that the media huff is factual, which I dont. Bassett and the current board are much smarter than that. Did you ever consider that perhaps Lethlean wasnt very good at his job/s?
my concerns have zero to do with the media's outcry and everything to do with Ross surrounding himself with yes-men. perhaps they want the best atm but seeing as they left previously (SoS and Misson) are they StKilda ppl or Ross people?

it's not about whether Simon was good or bad, it's about setting the club up for sustained success and not just a 5-year balls-to-the-wall effort that leaves us empty and depleted like last time.

Flags are ****ing hard for us to win, Bassat has stated he wants one in 3 years, and others have mentioned 2025-6 as our time, what happens if we fall short again, Ross is done, how long will SoS and mission hang around for? Dalrymple is a good get, but If we are honest with ourselves we can't criticize Lethlean for hiring mates when Ross has come in and done exactly that.............

Lenny BJ Harves …

Not sure any are yes men.

President sacked a coach he approved an extension for only a few months earlier- definitely not a yes man.

SOS went on SEN and tore apart Carlton and aired dirty laundry. Not a yes man

Mission could be… but I suspect he is more just loyal to the opportunities Ross has given to him and the relationship they have built.

Very professional these days at Moorabbin.

Don’t think Carroll is a yes man.
Or Dilena, or a number of others.

Don't give a flying f.uck if they are all yes men, if they deliver results.
Enright wants a flag so he can further his coaching career, I see head coach written all over him.
The other coaches are Saints men at the very least.
SoS was at the Saints previously, same with Misson. Got the band back together that come within a bee's dick of two flags.
This time we have the facilities and the admin, remains to be seen if we have the list.we

Ross hired a dream team. Lethlean got his mate out of the bank and got his other mate's druggo son with a busted knee in.

The difference with Fyfe and Mitch is Mitch can kick and looks a natural goal kicker. Fyfe's best season was 22 goals from memory and averaged about 10 season. His field kicking was pretty ordinary too. Mitch has a very good touch off the boot and sets up goals with great vision and clean short passing. He's got Fyfe size and attack but he's not the right example. He's more like an upmarket Jake Stringer. He's a threat close to goals but can play a dominant midfield game. Really hard to find a perfect comparison. Elements of Paul Chapman in him too. Maybe Adam Goodes as well.
I love Mitch but still a fair bit behind Fyfe at his prime!
Reckon he just might get there though 😊

We all love Mitch but lets not let facts ruin a good story , Fyfe is miles in front of Mitch at the same age.
Mitch is on the way to being a star of the game and who knows it maybe this year

Much prefer the Paul Chapman to the High Street Stringer comparison.

I reckon he will turn out to be a 70% forward / 30% mid - think Petracca & a fit not lazy Stringer!
I was thinking the same for both Mitch and Pou.
If we can land a top mid from trade or FA then those two stay at HF and give oppo coaches nightmare for a decade.
Glorious stuff.

The major difference is Fyfe actually played as a midfielder. I’m only guessing of course but I don’t think the comparison would be miles off if Owens played in the middle like Fyfe did.

Of course we're projecting. Owens has all the tools to be special.
Yep beast, brave (maybe a bit too much at times), driven and decent skills. Expect his confidence to grow as he gets more games under his belt. He will monster some teams this year!
