The ones we've picked were crap...but the players picked after them turned out to be good....They are more historical picks though. Like Mahony/Perez over Chad Warner for example.

That’s sort of where I’m getting at. To me, pick 25 has the same value as pick 40, as the odds of you picking a good player in that range seems pretty similar. Bloody hard. We have missed on plenty, but so have other, better list building teams.
So if north had pick 40 for Daniel’s, I think that would be easier for fans to swallow. We seem to look at pick 25 as some can’t miss, will be good, selection spot. To me 25 and 40 have nearly the same value.

Racism scandal, TT saga. Houston as an Aboriginal man would be taking this into consideration.

Both The Warlord and I were curious about this recently, but from what I can tell, Houston is not actually an Indigenous Australia.

He's not included on the AFL Players Association list of indigenous players;

(it doesn't matter one way or another of course, but just a point of order).

Ah that Gold Coast win!!

Yes, I would.

Houston is a jet.

That is known. What isn't known is what the players listed will do over their AFL careers.

Houston will be 28yo early next season. So we have realistically maybe 3-4 good years with him.

Look at that list below. How many of those pick #3&4 pick players would you prefer for 13-14yrs over only 3-4 from Houston?
I think outside of the few busts, I would personally take most of those names on that list for the entirety of their career over an aging Houston that I was only getting in the twilight years of his.

I don't care. I want to win so we can keep existing talent on the list.

Houston is resilient, and I'm confident we will get 100+ games out of him

No, it is because Picks 30-45 take longer to develop typically, and we don't want to be losing LDU or wait till Larkey retires before those draftees are ready to contribute in a meaningful way. There comes a time when you need to start to worry about winning, knowing that the building blocks are in place and are just about ready to deliver. There are a few holes remaining and those need to be filled with ready-made players if we want to get back to being a football club instead of player development facility.
Wasn't Paul Curtis Pick 35? 2nd highest goal kicker in 2024 as a 21 year old...

The justification that second round picks take longer to develop so they shouldn't be prioritized is just bullsh*t.

Have we signed Leigh Montagna yet?

Any player we draft will take 3-4 years before we even know if they have Houston potential. That has to be considered if you're trying to compare the two.

Are we trading him to WC for pick 12???

Hands off our Todd.

(Seriously, our eventual climb up the ladder will be directly tied to Viney's off-field work behind the scenes. The man is INTEGRAL and doing a fantastic job).

Gun to the head, for where our list is at, yep I would take Houston over any 18 year old midfielders who will like be 5th or 6th or 7th in line for a rotation, unless they have absolutely exceptional qualities to the level of Kerch or Wardlaw, which none of those you've listed have.
Armstrong and Tauru are not mids but could be fantastic KPPs.
