I may have been slightly harsh on GC, not factoring Luko has 6 years left at $1m a season.

Atkins contract is terrible as well.

Unsure if GC is paying a % of either of these.
Pretty sure the Atkins trade was in part to get his wages off their books.

Let's shelve the misery hey?
The famous proverb was originally spoken by the Demon Mephastophilis in the play “The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus” by Christopher Marlow in the 16th century, who said “Solamen miseris socios habuisse doloris”, which roughly translates to “It is a comfort to the unfortunate to have companions in woe during the AFL Trade Period”. Simplified to “misery loves Big Footy”.

From the West Coast board:

"God help Pyke if one of the top 3 draftees has a Harry Sheezel like first year and we have Baker plodding along picking up 15 - 20 touches a game but having absolutely no impact on games a bit like Chesser (which is what i am expecting)."

They are a bit salty about Sheezel over there.

A reliable half back distributor is a massive position of need

Fisher, McKercher, Sheezel, Goater, Bergman, Hardeman can all play that role, with greater emphasis on the latter 3 as they seem to be earmarked for longer term roles in the back half. We also had Powell there at times this season too.

Now yes aside from Sheezel Houston is currently an upgrade on all of them, but Goater/Bergman/Hardeman have played a combined 30 odd games between them, I suspect Powell won't end up a full time centre-square midfielder long term either judging by how much his mid time fluctuates, we have seen what McKercher can do with his run and carry from the back half, and I need not explain re. Sheez and his versatility.

If in 2/3 years Goater, Bergman & Hardeman are clearly not up to it then fine we should be prepared to pay up for quality, but at the moment do we really need 8 potential distributors on our list considering the gaping holes we have in other areas? Especially factoring in the cost.

Agreed as a general comment for a few here.

I am disappointed by missing out, but I’m still excited to see the natural improvement from our list, the return of Goater/Logue, Parker and hopefully a few early picks. We will be right and will make Dan regret his choice.

To paraphrase a great man, "out time will come".
