It’s totally the opposite of a flawed argument. It shows draft picks in that range are totally hit and miss
None of Caleb, Darling or Parker will be part of our next premiership because they are all TOO OLD. Nothing hit and miss about that.

We dumped the rebuild like a hot steaming bag of shit for wins next year.

B: Archer, Comben, Corr
HB: Daniel, Logue, Goater
C: McKercher, Parker, Scott
HF: Durrsma, Darling, Sheezel
F: Curtis, Larkey, Zurhaar
Foll: Xerri, Wardlaw, LDU
Int: Simpkin, Tucker, Powell, Fisher
Sub: Stephenson

Defensive Depth: Hardeman, Mcdonald, K.Dawson, W.Dawson, Bergman, George

Midfield Depth: Stephens, Phillips, Lazzaro

Forward Depth: Ford, Maley, Payne, Konstanty, Teakle, Pink, RJH.

Ruck Depth: CCJ & Goad

It's quite unbelievable that despite all the drafting of midfielders over the previous 4/5 drafts that we still have absolutely no depth in that part of the ground.

Time to remove the tape.

FB: Corr - Logue - Archer
HB:CD - Dawson -Hardeman
C: Scott - McKercher -Goater
HF: Duursma -Comben-Curtis
FF: Sheezel - Larkey - Darling

R: Xerri - LDU - Wardlaw

Int: Powell, Simpkin,Parker, 2
Sub: Ford

EM: Teakle, LMac, Tucker, Stephens

Next: W Phillips, KDawson, George, Konstanty, Hansen Jr, Goad, Maley.

Finding another 3-4 super reliable players is all we can hope for.

This year was only a (minor) success due Xerri, McKercher & Curtis.

Starting to build some decent squad depth!

Sure, but for every miss there’s a massive hit.

If you are going to argue we may have just picked up a bust, you need to equally declare we may have also just as likely missed out on a club champion.

The average games played for players in this pick range is 91.

Meaning for every complete bust, there’s a 200+ game player.

Geelong paid 17 for Bailey Smith and Brady Farknarkle paid 25 for a 28 year old midget.

Why does this ****head have a job?

A half cut bloke at the pub could negotiate better than this idiot.
Shows where the cats are as a football club and unfortunately where we are.

They won’t be in it, but they will sure help our younger boys get there faster

Remember all these old players were young once too (like Wardlaw etc)

Everyone has a good experienced backbone. We don’t and we addressed it with a good draft hand coz we are so shit

We don’t have another 3-4 years waiting on draft picks to develop

Teams usually rotate four midfielders through the centre. At most it's five, but that fifth midfielder usually spends most of his time forward of the ball.

LDU, Simpkin, Parker, Sheezel, Wardlaw, McKercher, Powell, and Phillips are the capable names we have to fill those four spots.

Zurhaar, Curtis, and Duursma also have some upside next year to have some limited rotations.

I don't think it's fair to put midfielders on the wing, half forward, and the bench, and then complain that we lack depth in the midfield. The reality is that we have too many midfielders and will have to play names like Simpkin, Parker, and McKercher out of position to fit them all in the side.

The real problem is why we don't have entrenched wings, half forwards, and half backs that don't allow us to use names like Sheezel, Powell and Simpkin to fill in the blanks for our theoretical best 22s.
WilPhil won't be getting a game unless we have a couple mids injured.

History shows pick 25 hasn’t exactly set the world on fire, only Josh Dunkley and James rowbottom are the only ones worth mentioning in the last 10 years or so, so we didn’t lose out on much trading it out

Nothing surer than Tigers wanting our pick 2 as they are desperate to get two of the best mids.

Snozza has to hold his nerve and accept nothing less than pick 6 & 10 or 11.

As good as Richmond's hand is the picks at 10,11,18 and too a lesser extent 6 diminish there chances of picking gun mids.

I have some reservations on our overall strategy given it feels like it has zig zagged.

That in 2023 we were taking one approach and now in 2024 we are taking a different one.

it makes me nervous that there is no decided approach on how we actually get ourselves out of where we are.

Some of what we are doing I kind of get but at the same time it also feels like the coaches view our side a bit like an under 8s side that require coaches on the ground to be able to tell each of the players where they need to go and where they need to run.

If we are going this path, no half measures. There can be no tolerating of bad games by senior players. Single captain and that player needs to be able to put football on the park that makes themselves un-droppable.

Sheez would be my preference but he's a kid and as other posters have pointed out probably needs another year or two without that burden. I would probably give it to X.
I would guess its following the Dees/Lions blueprint when they brought in experienced Bernie Vince, Lewis, Hodge, Birchall.
Based on Brady's comments saying this will be the fifth year of drafting (since 2020 Phillips draft) and how we will look at splitting pick 2 and/or bringing our F1 forward, one could draw a conclusion that we don't intend to do much more heavy drafting of players beyond this years draft. Perhaps that is similar to Lions taking a collection of kids and then going after trade and FA space to fill for needs. It doesn't mean you are totally out of the drafting space, like the Demons showed, they traded out 1sts for Lever and May, but took Rivers, Fritsch and Van Rooyen in the 20's and 30's.
That would be guess on what they're thinking, give those kids development time and add some bits and pieces.
I'm not expecting us to make as many cuts next year as people think if they want to give the kids more time to develop.

Lmac and Jy had great leaders and roll models. Look at them now… devoid of leadership.

People keep talking about draft picks being magic beans. The only magic beans I see are Caleb, Parker and Darling the way they are being talked up on how their leadership is going to impact this playing list even well after their careers are over.

Fair, but I think we see the leadership potential of some of the younger guys. The blokes we have brought in should give them some time to develop without having to take on the extra burden now.

Overpay for Daniel but not enough to get angry about or lose any sleep.
Considering what we paid for ColemanJone 3 years ago then yeh, pick 25 for Daniel is not as bad.

Which is kinda the point that we’re conditioned to being this shit.

Option 1) We trade a 2nd rounder for a donkey that can't get a game
Option 2) We keep the 2nd rounder and draft a soccer player leaving 6 guns on the table in the same round

This is Being North

I've never seen Wardlaw shit his pants on firld and I'll bet my ass that Geoge wont go missing in the first half of every final he plays and then rack up 10 cheap ones in the second half when it's over.

And for FFS writing off a 19yo 200cm ruckman who always take until 24-26 to physically develop.

Harry and George out of that draft is a generational draft win
So you like “betting your ass”. Makes sense. :stern look

Did they?

As much as he was heart and soul Shinboner, Ziebell was a limited footballer at AFL level. A top 10 draft pick, played 280 games with no best and fairests in quite a poor period for the club. No AA selections or anything of note.

Cunnington was an absolute warrior and would have been good in a "do as I do" sense, but that's it.

Jy and Lmac as captains are a symptom of the Scott years and our terrible list management and development.

We need a poll on what we can split pick 2 For. Maybe even include the F1 or F2 option. My vote would be 2 and F2 for 6,11,24. I think that’s realistic. They will want to keep the pick at 10 to go before us. 3 in the first 25 would be great and we could all then chill on trading pick 25.
