Has this been raised before regarding Scott? That's a pretty incredible statement. Who wrote it?

The club not "being rushed" on a new contract offer (despite having mountains of cap room) can only mean a few things.

- Bailey's manager is asking for overs, or there is a big gap in expectation. It would seem based on that article the club hasn't even offered him a new deal yet for it to be rejected though.

- It can't be list spots etc. He's not a candidate for delisting and there's 10 others that would come before him.

It must mean one of the following then:

- The club want to lowball him to an extent and don't deem him worthy of a long deal/large wage.

Or

- The club must be shopping him. Maybe with the view with McKercher, Duursma and maybe another mid this year, there's an honest conversation had/to be had about his long term future?

- By extension, Bailey wants to explore his options?

- Or both?

Anyway, a fairly big development for a senior player of ours.

I could see Bailey's management pushing for a fat pay rise/longer term deal on the back of his last 2 years b&f results

OR.. Bailey's manager started exploring his exit amid a period of poor individual and team form - and that process smoked out some suitors.

Must say we seem to like popping blokes into the leadership group lately who can't work out if they want to piss or get off the potty.

Disagree, wins aren't overly relevant at this stage. It's all about performances, wins will come. People already talking after our first two, now we have added a third. The third was important as being 39 down a couple of mths back that would have petered out to a 70-80 pt loss, not get within 3. Just need to keep these performances up, grab the odd win and the interest will continue to build...

We've had a very promising handful of weeks but let's be realistic. Footy is fickle and perception of teams is super prone to recency bias due to the week long gap between games combined with a relatively short season. If we have a couple of bad weeks in a row all the feel good stuff will be thrown out the window.

Ending the year on 1 win with a % in the 60s will make it a hard sell to potential recruits and how many we lost by single digit figures won't really be relevant unless it's literally every remaining loss for the rest of the season and it becomes an unavoidable media talking point (fingers crossed it's a moot point because we don't lose another game).

Anyway, a fairly big development for a senior player of ours.

There was only one premiership player who didn't attend the 96 reunion, as a 'protest' for lack of a better word. NFI why there is or could be an issue.
He certainly feels his son is worth more than we offer, the same happened last time he was OOC.
I actually wouldn't be upset if we parted company and would suggest a second rounder would be a fair deal.

They said that Josh Battle is a chance to get band 1 compo on a 6 year deal if he leaves the Saints.

Surely CZ will get us the same.
Will cancel each other out, if Josh comes to us. If he doesn't then that's a different story.
I think Cam will stay with us unless something changes.

The HR 1.8 x 10 is journalists' journalisming... it's based on bullshit imo

No matter what, when, who, or why, 2 x 900k a season players will get you way more production than a single player with 9 games under his belt.

Reeks of made-up bullshit by purple or Corn.

Ask anyone what has caused the shitshow of recent years and the letting go of experienced players is close to the top of every list.

You won't get much of an argument that moving on guys in their mid-30s is fine, nor delisting those who spend years on the list for a game here or there (or even less often).

But Bailey Scott and Cameron Zurhaar have stuck with us through the worst period the club's been through in half a century, I don't blame them for wanting to see if the grass really is greener on the other side.

In an environment where accepted wisdom is to pay overs for B-graders, it makes no sense at all to willingly let go of solid best 22 players who are in their mid-20s and with 100 games under their belt.

And if all we get in return are draft picks, the outcome is that we become a feeder club, in a perpetual state of rebuild, always three years away from finals.

Bailey Scott is precisely the sort of middle-of-the-road role player that lets the stars do their thing. Won't make many highlight reels is but immensely important to structure - set and forget for the next few years.

And if Cam Zurhaar says he wants to see improvement before re-signing and then he stays, the boost around the club will be massive. If he means he gets paid a hundred grand more than he "deserves", so be it. Worth every cent.

yes he would be. Everyone is forgetting he’s 23 years old. I still think he has a bit to give, especially in our future golden years

McDonald over Bailey is laughable. He’s played two solid games all year.

We’ll see at the b&f count champ. I’ll shout you a beer if you’re right
