Yes, new tech helmets do protect you. Thats been debunked.
Really depends on the type of helmets because the rugby-style helmets that players wear, according to research, protects the head more for injuries such as fractures, cuts and abrasion but not so much for concussion.
There's even debate that boxers at the amateur ranks shouldn't use head gear as, like in the NFL, it leads to a false sense of security...it's that gray matter that bounces around in the skull that causes concussion that's why, if your are an MTB or motorcycle rider, there are all new style helmets that try and slow down the inertia of an impact and redistrubutes that force rather than in the impact zone.
On this topic concussion, really have a stricter on the period of sitting out...if a boxer gets knocked out unconscious or loss of consciousness, they have to sit out for a minimum of 90 days, no sparring. In the AFL, yeah 12 days and you're good.
As many ex-player commentators keep saying, coaches take players off for hamstring awareness etc but a daze player, leave him on until we have too...doc did he pass the concussion test, yeah, ok, how ya feeling lad, good to go, ok then go out there, we need you.
Until this type of attitude changes, grounds are hard, speed of the game is quicker, we'll see more players retiring earlier than ever...unfortunately.

Turn it up with this concussion nonsense. He’s 20 not 65. What a load of shit. Footy players, hundreds of thousands of footy players have played footy and copped head knocks. He’ll be fine. Im getting tired of this concussion shit. They arent being pulverised by 150kg supreme athletes wearing armour. Garbage.

nathan burke had dozens of concussions and still played 300+ games.

In all seriousness how do we do that though make helmets compulsory i really don't know. But like you say its a serious issue that no everyone should be taking dead serious.
You make the rule a mandatory rule. Players are removed from the ground if not wearing one and a shot on goal rewarded (like that stupid interchange infringement) to the opposing team.

The only thing stopping it from happening is vanity and stubborn pigheadedness by the AFL and clubs.

Like GR said, it will happen.

I don't care.
Bring in trade targets, draft mature agers from state leagues, get experienced players with 2-3 years left.
Something needs to change.

We aren't that far away.... as you say bring in mature trade targets and we will improve significantly. Looks like Clarko has his structure and we have current players filling it but need better players for some of them.

Here goes
Played 2 smalls yest in PC and RHJ. Need to replace RHJ with a better version ie a Ryan or Owies. Happy to keep RHJ for another year to compete and see if can improve to level required.

Need a better version of Pink this is the hard one and limited options. Or can put Chom there and then need something back.

Teaks role ie fwd ruck. he is doing well. Don't have many other options to get that better but also have ccj on sidelines who will be on last chance. Maley could be a future option

Final spot is that 3rd/roaming fwd. have Bull currently but Ford and durs competing for that.

7th fwd is either a resting mid or a Ford/dur

Wings I'm a Scott Fan but still think need another winger. Still think Stephens will make it but another winger for competition and depth. Have Tucker but he is playing better HB but he should be pushed out of there.

Tall defs personally think ok there with chom Logie corr and KD for depth and Wil D for competition and eventually Corr spot. If chom is to go fwd then need another back here. Even though we should never let in 7 goals in the 4th, chom clearly tired, and no Logie but that can't happen

Defensive/opp small fwd marker. Personally think only room for lmac or arch and sb Arch going fwd. Happy keep LMac for cover depth as way Arch plays he will spend time on the sidelines.

Then users have Tucker Kerch, Fish Berg need another elite user. Love Houston but can see big capital, Bergman of Miles variety another trade option. But we also have goater, Hardi as options outside starting too... will they make it guess jury still out. Tucker is really only depth/role type player but still needed

Mids powell jy ward LDU sheez Philips... happy with all these with LDU sheez powell ward and jy being main 5 rotations. Potentially Jy is the weakest that could be replaced if we were wanting a mature Parker, viney wines etc, but think other priorities before mids. But agree needed someone to get those clearances back our way in the last and no one stood up....

So ones need to be fearful or maybe already done

I’m not concerned about this years finishing position. Other than the Sydney game, post bye we have been in games.

17th or 16th means very little this year.

What I do want to see next year is us being competitive in the first half of the year. The start to this year was a disgrace.

Happy for it to be a slow burn, if it means that hen we climb the mountain it’s sustainable and long term.

What would you rather, top up and finish mid table like *.

So crucial that we start the year well next season. I'm sick of the gauntlets of misery we have to go through before finding some form.

Load up on talented kids, dump some deadwood, look for some good trades... with the kids that we have signing up, top four should be the long-term goal - not 8th to 12th. Essendon are chasing the dragon and topping up with average players, resisting the inevitable (sounds familiar), St Kilda... who knows. We must not end up like them.

Biggie and Stepho are contracted. Can’t see us paying two out

100%. LDU, Sheez and Wardlaw are forging their own leadership right now and will go up another level next season. Viney makes no sense for our list.
Four hours later than you and King Corey's posts and it looks like a good old head in the midfield would have helped.

Hey Houston,
I know you’re gunning for a top four spot atm but that’s nothing to dropping a five goal lead down in Hobart against the 16 ranked team. The atmosphere is electric.
Regardless of the result, we’ve all got season tix to Mona. We get to go minimum four times a year. Just put your signature down here and you too can be like us.
Just as an aside - I've got a friend who is a quality artist and went to MONA to check it out. She showed me a photo of her there and she looked so heartbroken. She called if a theme park for people who don't understand art.

In the immediate term yes, but going forward our mids need to multi position types. FOS mid/wing/ forward, Draper mid/forward, Smillie mid/forward. To bring in a pure mid like him forces us to play even more mids out of position.

Smillie can play hbf also

In that general role

Yeah but i see him as a bigger weapon forward. 195cm with a good set shot at long range which we dont have many of.

But for sure could see him at least starting off there and who knows. We probably need to look at much the same for Duursma until we up our i50 count as well as using the corridor more.

Their autopsies showed that they all had CTE, and there has been enough research to show that people with CTE have a much higher rate of suicide than the general population.

Do you feel that F1 is much diminished now that cars are fitted out so that they aren't death traps in the event of a severe crash?
Junior Seau was thought to have had up to 20 concussions over his career and committed suicide 3 years into retirement.

He was never diagnosed with a single concussion during his career, lol

Pretty much expected in the decades that he played in and how it was if left up to team doctors.

The NFL funded a $765m dollar settlement for ex league players, but numerous players' families have sued the league outside of this settlement and been played out confidentially.

Hundreds of players have been diagnosed with CTE since dying, as there is no way to diagnose whilst alive.
