To be fair he had only had 1 good year in 6 years before this year. Like i said earlier we are not that far away from plenty success Not to bothered about not having Chol there to enjoy it.
Not that far away from success???

Reality needs you, mate...

Unless we can get 3 decent vets through the doors and hit the draft where 1-2 of them play most games, we'll be in the bottom 2 again next season...

I'd be disappointed if we were too reactive to the end of year form or our midfield. When Wardlaw and Sheezel are up and about and LDU is on the move we are absolutely deadly. Add McKercher to that mix and it's still an unreal combo of strength, speed and skill.

Stop chasing that one mid that will fix everything. They can't fix forward half speed, backline skill or Teakle as our second KPF. Follow GWS and Hawthorn, invest in small forwards and quality talls. Stop repeating the mistakes of the past.

Our refusal to prioritise small forwards since LT left is absolutely damaging. How many goals.did Hawks small forwards kick yesterday?
Cant help but feel we may have missed the boat there with Duursma over Watson. That said theres always room for talented 190cm utilities and we can always player McKercher fwd as well.

Lol. We can all bag Barrett for sure, but he was right with many of his criticisms of club, sadly.
Anyone can bag the club that's easy its sticking with the club when things are not going well is what really counts. Sure it fine to get frustrated with how we are going but a lot on here cross the line with what they say and think of the players and club. I have never bagged out a player or the club maybe I'm wrong or maybe i just respect the club to much to bag it out.

What did we offer then.
2 years with a trigger for an additional year.
Many of us dont watch that much of the VFL or other comps to know. I do wonder what the knocks on him were. Particularly when watching him run away from Simpkin, while being stronger and more skilled than our skipper as well.

Im not a draft expert, so to me its a matter of asking what the experts thought wouldn't be AFL standard about him?

Newcombe was pretty raw when he taken in the MSD. His kicking was a bit suspect and while he had a big body there were concerns about his running capacity at AFL level. He had only had 10-12 games in the VFL before being picked up too. Came from the clouds after playing most regional footy the year before.

2 with a trigger is a fair deal Not much else we could have done then really.

Thanks for the reply, but id still ask how do we identify those that can more easily correct those short comings as he has. We have Simpkin a running mid and Nukem blows him away in both those areas now.

Of the five we took last year, only one had any impact this year
Now it's clearly too early to judge, but neither can we guarantee it's going to prove a successful draft.
There's hope around Wawson. Hardeman, we don't know yet, and will know more in 12 months. Goad is going to have to do a Hamish McIntosh. Indistinguishable from Jacob Edwards so far, with the admitted benefit of being a couple of years younger. Duursma's talented but I don't want to touch him in terms of predictions because he makes me uneasy and because of the bloke who went after him at pick 5.

It's not a pass yet and it's not a fail yet. The nucleus of necessary backup for what we have currently is definitely there

That grey bit on the right is the big issue. The Cats and Pies each have 13 players in the 28+ bracket, even Sydney as a middle ranked team for experience and the Dockers as a young team have nine.

We can't wait three years for the 25 and 26 year olds to get to the grey section so we need at least 5-6 experienced guys in the next two off-seasons.

I think many are getting carried away with getting players who can have an AFL impact every week, but don't forget a lot of our future best 22 players are in the VFL with next to no experienced support with a list profile like ours. It's terrible for their development.

Can obviously aim high for guys like Parker or Wines, but even some Breust, Duryea, Fox, Day, Casboult, Lyons, Tomlinson, Membrey types would be good, even to play twos most weeks and show the kids how it's done.

Some former captains in Ward and Swallow have played enough footy this year. Is Heppell really done? Can he play a role?

We absolutely cannot go into another season with this few over 28s so we're going to have to get very creative and probably open the cheque book to get some of these guys in. Even if they aren't guns and are past their best.

I'm pretty sure the club is very happy how Zanes 1st year went . roos Scout Sphinx some of the really good judges on the draft how do you guys rate Zanes year and future after his 1st year.

You guys are dreaming if you think we are attracting anything more then C grade talent. Coming to us is career suicide at the moment. Guys like Brodie is the best we will do
In all honesty, I'd pass then. There'll be capable state league players who would crawl over broken glass for an opportunity, even at NMFC....we need to improve our game at identifying them.

Nah hawks hid him at Box Hill and then scared everyone off by demanding a 2 year contract straight off the bat.
Well played.

Should have taken blight in the MSD.
No offence to payne, but we didn't need another of his type.
Major holes heading into MSD are we only filled one of them.

Payne's a tackling machine. We'll see how it translates, but I've got hopes he can find a role as soon as next year.

He wasn’t really hidden there. He was in plain sight for anyone who had watched VFL footy that year. His rise to AFL is unusual though, as he was never in any development pathways and was playing mostly local footy the year before being drafted.

I'm so bloody tired of the 'we will inevitably improve in x amount of time' attitude that has been repeated ad nauseum for years.

We finished 17th in 2020 and now we have finished 17th again in 2024 (within a bees dick of finishing dead last too as my pfp shows). Would anyone here have truly expected that back then?
The answer is **** no because while it was clear we were bottoming out the prospect of 5 years of some of the worst football in history with absolutely nothing to show for it would have seemed absurd and statistically improbable, yet here we are.

You have no idea what's going to happen in 4 years time. I have no idea what's going to happen in 4 years time. I sure as shit hope the club doesn't think they know what will happen in 4 years time and believe we are guaranteed improvement, because it is a fallacy that will ensure internally we do nothing but the bare minimum as opposed to doing what is required to squeeze the absolute best out of ourselves.

Some hard calls desperately need to be made with this list. Not a 2020 style slash and burn, but some hard calls.

Do you think we'll be bottom 2 next season?

On SM-G991B using BigFooty.com mobile app
Yeah in the bottom 4 i would think but with a few more wins and being a lot more competitive for longer in games. I can see where your coming from even if i don't agree with it . Of course its frustrating losing every week I just try and look at the bigger picture and where we are headed and i honestly believe we are on the right track
