Game Day 2024 Trade Period - Lian Yu - that liminal space between trade and draft.

He's a professional and simply made a choice based on the fact he followed WCE as a kid and also familiar faces will be there.
I'm sure if he plays for Freo, he's ready to go.

The difference will be financial. WCE offer would be at least 200k a year more than ours. That's a free investment property accross the life of the contract.

Are we just going to forget that Jordan Clark called West Coast first?

Yes, same as Yeo calling us first.

WC offering more money, so he will go there. Simple as that. WC will get their man.

Short of Richmond making it better for Freo, such as making Bolton literally free salary cap wise, Baker isn't coming and if that's the requirement to have Baker we will do very well out of that.

But. If we hold 11 at the draft I think we end up with Essendons and Melbourne's future firsts live trading at the draft

Why would we also want someone who doesn't clearly wanna come here?

Just my take but I think people are other-thinking this.

And I genuinely think players care less about this year after year, as long as they're on the right money and in the right state etc.

If he grew up a WCE supporters he probably just defaulted to them when McQualter was made coach but I really don't think it matters.

Players have must less loyalty to clubs these days. They're all friends and love each other. They largely don't hate other clubs and players, don't get into punch ons at the pub anymore etc.

Man I am so over the Hogan/King conversations, (not aimed at u serial thriller) I dont even read them. I really couldnt care less.

I am just so wrapped we have the two best young key forwards in the game. Just like I used to go to the footy to just see Fyfe tear opponents a new one every week, I now dont miss an Optus game just to see Nev and the Kahuna strut their 21 yr old man child bodies around and do things that should be impossible at that age.

To think I will get to see these guys become the new Dunstall and Dermie pair for the next decade brings me irrational amounts of pleasure.

You clearly don’t know many West Coast supporters. They would rather eat their own than play in purple. Rabid ferals.

Moreover on the folding, i think at this point with all the media posturing we've done this year, we set a very dangerous precedent on future negotiations if we give up 11 now

The only way we give up 10 and 11 is if something decent comes back.

Picks 10 and 11 for Bolton, 32, 42 and F2? Think I'd take that.

We want Baker because he's good at football. He's still very fast, he's a hard worker, he's good at quickly making bold decisions. His kicking efficiency admittedly looks terrible on paper. Well, Hayden Young went at 60.1% KE this year. Taking risky options and trying to pick out dangerous targets ruins you on paper, but we can't all be Luke Ryan at 90% KE from long bombs. Our last kick of the score chain has been the problem for years, and Baker would be a huge improvement on anyone else we could play at half-forward other than Treacy and Young and maybe Switta, all of which we need elsewhere.

Ignore the flashy stuff and notice how often he takes an absolutely jaw-dropping pinpoint accuracy disposal to keep the play alive. That is what we need at half-forward. He will also kick some goals for us which will be nice.

Don't you hate these videos.

They call it Tough As Nails then just show highlights of him kicking goals which isn't what he's known for.

This guy is a deceptively good contested player and overhead mark, amongst other things.

At this point I'm convinced all the Richmond posters coming to our board are bots
Dunno about bots. Russia has bigger fish to fry. But I have no doubt that there are dozens of lurkers itching to hit send on yet another post starting with "Sorry to intrude, but..."

Yeah and I strongly believe it's a different mentality when you're actually playing AFL, not following it.

Had a chat to Glenn Manton about this years ago and he said by the time he was done playing he didn't even support any team anymore, just the sport in general.

Have to agree on your last point though - I tried to enjoy some friendly footy chat about these trades over there and got chewed out. Not a nice place at all. Much friendlier over here, and contrary to popular belief I actually find the Blues group quite friend too haha.

Are we just going to forget that Jordan Clark called West Coast first?
Precisely. People on here desperately need to drop their egos.

Clark wanted the eagles
Yeo is a premiership eagle, despite wanting to play for us

It means zilch.

Baker won't come here, commonsense he gets to wce. But if he did, he'd buy into freo from day 1.

Cal and Riley more focused on getting oasis tickets atm and fair enough 😂
Man I hate it when Twomey tries to insert his cultural preferences into footy stuff. Nobody gives a **** which bands you like. Cringe AF.

And yet, still more interesting than this years' trade period.

They must be totally aware how shit it is too

Baker will end up at WC. Twomey and the likes have been told by AFL to make everything a big drama. We are genuinely sitting in the background waiting to pounce but I’m certain it won’t get to that.

The Bolton trade now has to wait for Baker trade. Does appear as though the Baker trade will now be separate to Barrass.

Perhaps WC will offer something like
26, F3 > Baker
10+18 + F2 > Bolton, F3 (WC)

WC will then entertain a trade with Hawks something like:
F1, F2, 33 > Barrass, F4, 63

That way WC upgrade their list F3 to and F2 and replace 26 with 33 and the net result is better picks for 2025
F1 x 2, F2 x 2

This is a text book long play by Freo. And the fact that now the the actual sensible commentators (not looking at you trade radio) are saying 10/18 is overs and not an argument from anyone on the panel.

Bolton can't go back to Richmond. He's packed his life up. If he does because Richmond don't accept him leaving then next year it'll be a 2nd round pick to force his way our.
