Game Day 2024 Trade Period - Lian Yu - that liminal space between trade and draft.

Can anyone explain what draft capital we have at our hands to lure a Warner/Pickett next year? The only extra pick I'm aware of is the F3 we've just nabbed from Richmond, but I'm not too across all this.

Surely we don't have the picks to get it done without trading our 14/30 into next year or am I missing something?
You can trade three years of picks from next year.

I can't see a world where we re-sign Brayshaw and have the cap to add both Kozzie and Warner so really it's a non-issue as we likely only get 1 of them.

2025 first second and two thirds and a fourth.
2026 First to Fourth
2027 first to fourth

From next year, all teams will be able to trade futures 2 years ahead instead of one so that’s where picks could come from if required

Current / Future 1 yr / future 2 yr

Thats a pretty good trade by Walls standard tbh

We folded a little but so did they

Tigers F3 isn't a shocking pick, especially under the new NGA system, theres a chance it doesn't slide back as much as clubs need to hold earlier picks for bids next year

Unlike others, I am not convinced should be played as a forward pocket.

As long as we can priortise this need through the draft, I can tolerate the trade.

Berry, Hannaford, ......
I would like us to draft two players who can play as a forward pocket.
This is why I thought Bolton and Pickett together was such an amazing prospect. If Bolton is in the midfield then Pickett can play forward, maybe vice versa and maybe both forward at the same time. I'm sure we'd do all three throughout a game.

I'm not sure about going so far in on forwards. I think we've got other needs to cover with HBF and midfield over a 2-3 year period tbh. Perhaps one this year and one next year would be good, especially given Basil Hart is a NGA next year too.

If we get 100 more games and 150 goals from Bolton it’s a win. If there are still regular games for the likes of Banfield ONeara Walters and Emmett (fantastic blokes but not premiership b22), then we’re still a way off the mark. Sturt, Dris, Simpson DeLean need a big 2025.

From a club perspective it was worth paying overs for - they clearly believe we're in flag contention and Bolton fills a much needed gap.

Furthermore the guy represents $$$. He's a very exciting player that will put bums in seats and will generate merchandise sales. Having an incredibly exciting Indigenous player has always been a hallmark for Fremantle too.

He was a heavily contracted player, and heavily needed.

I'm glad we've still got Pick 14 and a second rounder to build the core team.

Any of you who are salty will change your tune by round 1. One of the most unique and talented players I've ever seen pull on the Richmond jumper. No one can create goals out of nothing better than this guy. Insane agility.

Honestly, at his best he is worth a top 5 pick but he wasn't going to be at his best in a poor team. I think this trade will work out in the end for both teams.

You his agent?

Bolton is a high half forward, as is Switta, Freddy, Simpson
Dealan is playing reserves.

I would argue we don't have an AFL quality forward pocket on our list.

My thoughts are you draft 2, and one should make it.

Every small forward could be viewed as a "high half forward" these days. They all move up and down the ground. Bolton can play as a genuine elite small forward when not starting at the centre bounce.

I wouldn't forget Serong either. I rate him as a small forward. He started to hit the scoreboard in the last half of the year. I think we can give Serong increased time up forward when Bolton has stints in the midfield.

Walls should simply back himself to nail both picks and draft 1 small and 1 medium for better list balance. If you want another small, then look to mature agers as late/rookie/SSP picks.

Were we too reasonable with our first offer? Hindsight hero stuff but what if we started with 11&30 and then compromised from there. I’m not melting at this trade FWIW but boy did did pay full price. Seems our reasonableness with our first offer may have put us on the back foot. A bit more campaigneriness wouldn’t go stray at times.
come on its not some minigame where your first offer has any bearing on what the other party will end up accepting. richmond knew we had a full hand, of course they are going to want that much from us for a player we wanted who was still contracted for years to come.

we will still pick up a decent draftee this season and pull up to round 1 with shai in the forward line, absolute win for us

i disagree tbh, bolton often plays as the deepest forward one out, thats not the role of a high half forward in the ilk of switta/freddy/shoota. hes an elite crumber and can make things happen on his own and can also add a lot to our midfield mix
