This is getting a bit silly now with the Carlton gops. I don't mind one or two, but do we really want to turn St Kilda into the Carlton of 2022? Kennedy or Young are not the missing pieces of a premiership team, just like Dow, Stocker or Hammer weren't. We can't keep using up all our list spaces with anymore fairly decent players, we've got plenty already.

Either untried draftees or game-changing guns and leaders only, please.

I get it but finding a few Mason Woods is a really handy way to bulk out depth. Next year we are going to be a very young list. You don't want 12x under 21s in the seniors or you start to get uncompetitive. With Battle gone we have a really weird list profile with heaps close to 30 and heaps under 21 then a few average mid career guys.

One of either Macrae or Kennedy (not both) probably lean toward Macrae as a more proven talent but Kennedy is cheaper and there’s less issue if we wind up benching him cause some kid comes on.

I also wouldn’t dismiss Young. We’re talking about Tomlinson pretty seriously, Young is big enough to play TRUE fb which frees up Dougal to play CHB and makes Wilkie a proper third tall. The backline system we have feels tailored to guys like Young, **** Ross made Dawson look like an elite FB. Young is 25 as well.

The opportunity cost too. Kennedy is good but not brilliant, he could take games off kids and holds a spot for 5+ years. Macrae is a place holder for a couple of years.

I think he's probably a similar level to what we got from Jones late in the year but a bit less dynamic. Byrnes is a workhorse running utility. We need a Crouch replacement mid not another depth player.

Kennedy looked good when he first arrived at Carlton but has struggled with form, consistency and injury. Lyon might be able to get the best out of him but Dow is just as likely to improve with a decent run. Our training guys need to be looked at too.
He played nearly every game this year and when played as a mid had 30+ a few times , you cant rely on Jones to play all year

If you go Kennedy and Young you have the added bonus of being able to do a single deal and get some late junk back for Peckett.

If it’s a third rounder and a swap of seconds with a fourth back or something then it’s effectively a free swing really.

I’m generally not a fan of picking up others discards but both of those guys fill a need for us.

Also I actually thought young wasn’t bad overall, he’s just playing in a carlton team with zero defensive structure at all.

Yeh but that’s less of an issue with Kennedy. You get him and some kids come on nobody cares if we drop him. Macrae there’s some pressure to play because of the name and wage.

We will get 8
The herbs and spices will also be added which is
Saints haven't had a top 10 compo, father son or academy pick for a long time. It is our turn. These picks are not worked out just purely on numbers.
Add to that Bassat would be making a lot of noise to the AFL. It would just be easier for them to add band 1.

Jones was running hot towards the end of the year, really stepped up and impressed. Keep him on the 1 year contracts I'd say with a games played clause to trigger another. His body stays right and the muscled-up greased ferret is a dangerous asset, but everyone knows you gotta keep a ferret hungry.

Could ... just could ... Lewis Young improve?

25/26yo .... big guys always take time to find their groove?

He played ruck a few games in his last season at Bulldogs and last year with Carlton and did ok ... could he be our ruck back up at 201cm?

He seems mobile enough .. can take a grsb ... kicking looks sound ... whats his problem?

Anyway if he does move on from the Bluescum .... wherever that may be .... please please :praying: turn into a gun

To see that blue horde choke on their cornpops would be glorious

He was one of the few players at Carlton that can hold their heads high after their final. Played pretty well.

Byrnes is a work horse and gives 100% each week, there are lot less deserving players on our list than him. I actually think he has a spot as a lock down small defender, the couple of times he played there he did really well.

He is quicker and provides more run than Stocker and is hugely courageous for a kid his size. You cant bottle garaunteed effort but Ronny provides it in spades.
He is many things but a lock down defender is not one of them , one on one is his weakest strength

He plays his best running up and down the wings , and even then he may struggle to keep his spot with others coming through

Don't know much about Kennedy or Young, hearing Kennedy being played out of position ( similar to McRae, similar to Wood at North), know little on Young.

Sounds like good depth players if nothing else. If they don't cost the world in picks I will defer to others who knows more about them than me.
One thing though, it sure beat the ridiculous wasting all our draft capital by topping up with a HBF (Houston) or an Essendon mid manlet ( Merret) when we are nowhere near a genuine top 4. That would have been an absolute disaster.

I'd be trying to future pick it but they'll want picks for the Camporeales.

I’m not usually one for picking at scraps but both Kennedy and Young fill list needs. We are very thin for tall defenders and contested midfielders. Both solve those issues and are at the right age to have an immediate impact. No brainer grabbing both to replace Battle and Jones if the price is right. I would expect nothing more than pick 40-50 for each.

Personally I think the more people continue to underestimate Byrnes the more he'll prove them wrong. Can see him continuing to improve and becoming an integral player.
I was just about to stop underestimating him, but you've convinced me not to. Will try to underestimate him all the way to top 5 in the B&F.

We need a Weitering/Andrews/May type.

Howard/Young/Tomlinson all do some form of itch scratching without sorting the issue.

With young specifically, Carlton are short on key backs. It’s actually a need for them. Yet they are telling Young to go find a new home.
Dawson was on his third club when he came to us… was a running joke when at Hawthorn… he did ok.

Young’s worth a punt IMO. With our utter lack of depth, we can’t afford to be too picky.

Second club mate.

Freo was the third
You’re correct, of course.

Still. Limited but committed player, and he made a GF with them too, didn’t he?

I still wonder what role it is that Young thinks is his best?

Kennedy and young are junk. One going for other clubs seconds stick to the best ones

Giants
Swans
Richmond

Etc etc stay away from blues
