I reckon second half of the year Ross started to get a taste of how dangerous Marshall could be as a forward/ruck. He kicked 13 goals after round 17, the games where we played Campbell he looked very dangerous.

I'm not at all surprised that we're going after Soldo, I think we'll look to play him most weeks and it will give the opposition some serious headaches trying to man up King and Marshall.

Looking at Soldo's stats, even this year he has supercoach scores of 125 and 112 in the 8 games he played. Also a few others in the 90s. Last year a 128 and a 126 in his 8 games. He can definitely be an AFL level ruck and part of a damaging ruck combo.

The Saints are on track to secure former St Kilda ruckman Soldo, who is still contracted to the Power.

The Saints need more ruckmen after delisting Tom Campbell, with ruck-forward Jack Hayes also drawing interest from rival clubs.

Port Adelaide has another backup in Dante Visentini so is well enough stocked as it also chases rival players including Harry Perryman, Jack Lukosius and Isaac Cumming.

Port Adelaide gave up picks 41 and 49 and Fremantle’s 2024 second-rounder but got back a fourth-rounder and pick 50 for Soldo last year.

But the 28-year-old played only eight senior games for the Power as he also suffered a knee injury that set him back early in the season.

Soldo might hope to play in a ruck tandem with Rowan Marshall, who was in dominant form for the Saints this year.

While he would not be guaranteed game time it would at least allow Marshall to push forward at times, with Soldo an adequate pinch-hitting forward at times at Richmond.

It was a tough initiation for Soldo whose partner Chelsea Becirevic moved with him to Adelaide but then jetted off to Dubai to work while the pair continued their long-distance relationship.

prefer a 24 or so year old that will seemlessly take over when roma is done,but just happy to get another ruck who should be in the 23 & campbell though a good clubman just looked cumbersome out on the park

but main reason is i really wanna see roma utilised more forward,that can be a weapon for us & soldo isnt totally useless up their either,can see where those 2 will require very little time on the pine,allowing more flexibility as well

all in all i give a soldo move a tick

Battle's management also manage Bonner and Ross who we had no problem delisting ASAP, plus Steele, Marshall, Wilson, Wood, Howard, Butler, maybe others. Not sure if they manage Hotton but I really doubt we would rankle them over this. There is a lot more to be lost than gained given all the players under their umbrella (which also includes guys like Matt Kennedy). Staking a 20-year-old's livelihood for a slightly improved draft pick would be fairly reprehensible.

I dont think they do. Hemisphere have a photo on instagram from the past two years with all their saints players and Hotton isnt in either of them. Unless he moved there late in the season, it seems this rumour is made up.

Yet Melbourne are interested. Soldo is going to cost a second rounder. So Saints need to give up 24 for him. He is contracted to Port.

I’d rather have just kept Campbell for back up.

How does that story match with Battle stating in all his interviews late in the season that he has a young family to look after

The price Port payed for Soldo was crazy. Port are going to expect more than a future third. Saints should walk away if it’s a second rounder.

They can't expect any more than that. Players get traded for a lot less then they were previously all the time.

Can't expect much for a journey man ruck that couldn't crack best 22.

Yeah but they got their actual ruckman (Jordan Sweet) for Pick 50.

So if they overpaid a 2nd rounder for Soldo but trade him on for a 3rd rounder - its effectively only cost them two fourth rounders for their first choice ruckman.

We knew he was gone when we threw the big offer at him. I think it was to bump up hawthorns offer. I don’t think it did though

Me too- it's been the security blanket many have been hiding behind.

Meanwhile virtually half of our best 22 are 29+ next year.

I'm not sure how people expect us to be any closer to a flag than we are now when pou, wilson, owens etc are at the peak of their powers in 4-5 years.

They'll simply be replacing steele, sincs, marshall, wilkie etc (if they happen to actually make it to A grade level).




There is no magical flag window opening up in 4-5 years time.

We may as well try and win one while our current best players are still in their prime in the next 3 years.

There's another take from it. It shows how desperate we have been to land something significant for the midfield and just can't get it done even with huge money to people not at the absolute top end.

We just aren't attractive.

I don't mind the idea of a Marshall/Soldo ruck combo, Soldo at the very least should be a better back up ruckman than Campbell.

South African, is he?

I'll go over and conduct the negotiations in Afrikaans (the most useless language since it's only spoken in SA) but will sweeten the deal with a braaivleis every weekend (that's a BBQ for you Aussies ) and my home-made biltong and melktert. ( custard tart.)

South Africans spoke Afrikaans in London when I lived there but that was mostly so they could talk shit about non South Africans.

I probably would have done the same thing if I could speak another language that most other people there couldn't understand.
