There is no way Battle podiums in the BnF
No?
He's a bloody good player and people who are pissed at him for leaving are just trying to cope by saying he's not that good, or just a solid citizen.
Not sure why there is such resentment, footy is a business now. At the end of the day we lost one of our best players in his prime years to a team looking to rise up the ladder at the same time as us. It's frustrating but at least getting pick 8 will help.
I still believe keeping Battle would have been the right choice but it's too late for that now, let's hope we nail the pick!

Logic would suggest that a number of clubs, including St Kilda, North Melbourne etc are looking at what can be done to get an extra pick or two this year from Richmond.

North would be best served by not getting more early picks.

I think that North showed this season that for them their biggest priority needs to be getting some good current players in as they have ample young talent, but need some good experienced players to steady the young guns who often buckle way too easily.

Perryman is rumoured to be 850k for 7yrs at Collingwood so should get same compo as us

Only the first 5 years count.

Battle is said to be on a front loaded deal. Possibly in part our offer to Battle for nexty year was high.

I have no knowledge if Perryman is as well.

It's the way he went about it that's pissed everyone including the players and the club off. Heck, the captain didn't even acknowledge him in his speech. Did Ross? Wilkie was the only one to do so but they're very close mates

Literally lied to their faces

Without knowing the intricate details, it seems a relatively fixeable problem. Had a cooked hand so had his contest-winning ability hampered significantly. Has had surgery on it so should be back to normal next year

Other problem was he was extremely overweight - put him on the fitness regime of one of the fittest teams in the AFL and set him back up for success.

Oliver's problem is not his body, it is his mindset. He has at least two addictions, and it is very hard to turn addicts around.

Surely even he can't screw it up with that sort of environment

See above. Just look at Ben Cousins.

Oliver would be a huge risk for us.

I can see the Cats giving him a go as they have the system and playing group that may assist to bring him into line. But with our very young list he would be a huge risk.

Worried they’ll punish us for basset going off

Nah. The AFL will look vindictive if they did that. It would be a nasty look.

It would give our club another chance to head kick the AFL and the press would run stories about how we haven’t benefited from the system.

The AFL would hate that, while the charity cheat Northern clubs continue to gorge themselves on the AFL teat.

That would also get a run in the media which might actually create some further discussion. Especially with the trading period and the draft approaching.

Easier for the AFL to give us pick 8 and to shut us up. For now.

And if the AFL decided to be bitches about it then it would bond our club even closer together. The AFL would never shut us up.

Bassat is fighting like crazy for our club. Lyon is digging in as well. It’s making the AFL feel very uncomfortable.

I have it on good authority that "the captain" wanted to mention him but couldn't string enough words together under the bright lights

what addictions?

Will the Cats turn him around like they turned Jack Steven around or Tyson Stengle around?

It's all well and good for the Prez to have a crack at the AFL re: father sons and compo etc, but what happens when they hand down Band 2 in a few days??

We go "thank you, sir" and go sit back in our dunce corner, that's what.

There is no right of reply here, we're picking a fight that cannot be won, but definitely can be lost.

It isn’t a new battle.

We have been saying this stuff all season.

So if they are giving us band 2 per your reasoning then that was decided months ago and not because of last night.

This is what it sounds like, when the nuffs cry...
Just a bunch of idiots missing the point, and bringing in distractors. Frustrating to read but there are a couple of non-Saints fans who get it so that's something.

Would you believe most of the posters the angriest about Bassat's comments support Brisbane? Me either! I can't believe they give a toss what anone thinks, they just won a premiership ffs.

Look forward to reading Mr Damian Barretts column on Friday
Another St.Kilda FC basher

Nah, squeaky wheels get greased. The AFL will try to buy him off by going the other way. The way corruption works, pay the whistle blower off and the noise goes away.

Nice to have a President with Balls for a change.

He's made a few questionable appointments but overall he's been great. The first one in years to really have the drive and energy to lift the club up off the floor. GT and Butterss were ****ed but their work set us up for the only extended period of competitiveness in my life time.

The entirety of the fruits of his labour probably don't show up for 5 to 10 years but start filtering through now. I don't offer praise lightly but he's been very good so far.

Ross Lyon kept bringing in guys with social issues at Freo. Didn't end well.
