If we had taken Caldwell everyone here would have lost patience with him before he became any good.

This is like his 6th year now and the first one where he's lived up to potential

One thing I've learnt around here is if you're not good in your second year you should be traded.

Thank god Pou has come good recently, a few idiots wanted to trade him a couple of months back.

Drafted players should have a 5 year window to show that they're up for it. By that time you should see how durable a player is, how hard they work, where their attitude is etc. They may not be a finished product, but every facet of the foundations and clubs investment should be clear for all to see.

Well, presumably that'll turn into two, then a decade, then a whole lifetime as the crushing stress of following this club is lifted from my shoulders and I reach a higher level of enlightenment than any other lifeform has ever achieved as my brainpower is no longer wasted on debating Essendon supporters on the merits of Jade Gresham vs Dylan Shiel.

Agree with he is a huge risk, but have anyone thought WHY we have to scrape the barrel for talent?
Brisbane beat smashed us and are flag favourites but get the best mid in the draft in Ashcroft for chump change.
Bulldogs beat us destroyed us earlier this year are second flag favourites but got JUH for free and get a bunch of Darcy's for bugger all in picks
Premiers Collingwood got two Daicos and Moore for chump picks.
Northern clubs get all the NGA's they want for free, we miss out on McKenzie.
North destroy their list on purpose and get multiple free dps.
WHAT DO WE GET? SFA and we have to look at TT or Clayton Oliver

How do you feel as a Saints fan to know the AFL purposely allows the favoured clubs to get this top ten players for 2nd and third round picks AND also keep their first rounder?
They want us just to exist for TV rights. Kane and Dillon won't change this rort, they are allowing this to happen again this year.

So we are forced to look at Thomas or Oliver as we don't get free players like these other clubs.

Yeah 5 years is probably fair. That said there are examples of players taking even longer than that.

Mason Wood is one on our team.

That said my point was more around some of the impatience around here not any specific timeframe a player should get grace.

Has a year to run on his contract - but most likely looking for opportunity

Talking about him and changing the subject to the Sandy alignment and developing our players - a few posters think there is no coordinated development going on

To counter that it seems Campbell was played ( out of position according to Bachelor) as a forward
So Heath could ruck all day against the druggies - against Bryan - seems like they wanted to test him for a full game against another promising young ruckman of the competition

Seemed like a good bit of player development driven thinking to me

He'd take a trade. They rate him pretty highly. Goober for nothing in the preseason would be worth a roll of the dice.

**** it, lets rebrand as the campaignery club. Get Wayne Carey in as social director and Ricky Nixon as president. Get Danny Laidley in to box our AFLW side before training.

Happy to back the club in and glad to hear they are looking at every possible option to improve the playing list.

Picking up an A great talent for free is not a bad starting point.

Of course clubs should have to pay more than they have for these F/S picks but you can’t blame a system that has at one point or another benefited a majority of clubs just because we unfortunately havent had any F/S’s worth drafting or even born.

We had over a decade to improve the list via the draft. We’ve drafted approx 50 players through the National Draft in that time, excluding the rookie draft and other supplemental, etc and just how many have actually come on? We have greater success rummaging in the rookie draft and found 2 AA’s and maybe third in the near future.

The “woe is us” mindset of a large portion of saints fans is getting very tiresome.

Many years ago players personnel life was basically hidden, if you were involved in a club you may of heard rumors but that's about it.
The one that shocked me was Barry Cable

No, it means that he’s been identified as someone with significant talent that we can sign without parting with anything more than financial capital.

We’ve been insistent that we’re going to the draft since Ross walked in the door, and we don’t really have the expendable trade capital to land someone of equal talent and ability who is currently on a list.

We may have other targets in sight who are around the periphery’s of other clubs best 22, however none that pose the same level of upside as Thomas hence our exploration.

If you have a draft system F/S or any other concession picks should not be allowed - it has made the draft system a joke.
