Yep they happily traded their two picks in the 60s to Carlton and now have no picks between 26 and 70.

I’m sure the previous poster was taking the piss anyway but Pick 26 is a better player on paper than Champion is. The issue we had with Liam Henry is that the player we would’ve got wouldn’t have been rated nearly as high as Liam Henry was.

There’s simply no way West Coast match until they use that Pick 26 but I reckon them trading away their picks in the 60s means they think he’ll last a lot longer than that.

It makes more sense than you might think. He's an elite kick and very mobile but he fits into our team structure too.
ts been mentioned by more than a few freo coaching staff that Luke Jackson's best position could end up being as a big midfielder. Judging by his cameos in 2023 I agree. If he played time onball he could still be the second ruck and rotate forward only when anter tall forward is on the bench.

Suspect Jackson was carrying something in the later part of the year as he wasn't having the impact he usually would - I'm on board with the midfielder idea as the ruck is likely to batter him even more over time. Imagine we go best available in the draft as seems to be the usual way, if Shanahan is the pick happy to back the recruiters.

It seems insane to spend our top draft capital on tall timber under the potential of putting Jackson on the ball. If he can go on the ball, he can rotate with small forwards as well but it will be tough to carry 4 tall forwards and still maintain forward pressure.

The comp is slowly shifting to 2 key forwards max, not 4.

Actually wouldn’t mind Shanahan if he made it to our pick and we played Jackson on ball and ran a 3 tall forward his last few games in VFL he was averaging 3 goals a game for Essendon VFL

With the draft so even clubs will draft more for needs. I’d be shocked if Berry got to freo pick. Hotton Lindsay or Hannaford would be 3 I’d be looking at if I was freo. Hotton coming off ACL but he would fit perfectly.

There’s nothing wrong with what Jackson provides us as ruck/KPF especially if Darcy is fully fit. We’d be drafting to cater for something that’s a long shot of being any good imo (Jackson midfield). Not sure we can add another forward to the best 22 that doesn’t pressure - playing three talls already means our smalls/mediums need to be very good to make up for it.

Honestly I’m happy enough with the best available non-tall with Pick 14. I think they’ll be room in our best 25 or so for just about any other type of player within 2-3 years if they’re good enough.

I can see the logic about drafting a KPF late in the draft but can’t see it early. At the same though, putting off 12 months probably doesn’t hurt us so I’m not really fussed whether we draft one or not.

There’s probably 4-5 different things we’ll need to address in the draft over the next three years, which is fine because we’ll probably add about 12 players to the list in that period. I’m not going to head to the Vent thread for anything other than my amusement if we say draft an inside mid at Pick 14 over what this board thinks are greater needs.

For mine, we are in that stage in our list we you just draft quality on any line with whatever you pick. Quality backup is underrated; having guys like Pearce and Tracy fall to injury this season and not having a certain level of replacement was probably the difference to missing the finals.

A draft where you have clubs like Richmond have lots of picks means they will be more funky with their choices, which means I suspect quality players will drop through the cracks. It wouldn't surprise to see a situation where we had Hayden Young

and Serong fall from being "top 3" prospects to being 7 and 8 just because they didn't fit the needs of the earlier clubs.

Of course the other thing that that might create is some fantastic live pick trade options for pick 14 and I am sure we will have to weigh that up too.

Where do you reckon Davis will be landing at?
If he was rated around mid 20’s which is my worry- just can’t see us falling back to take him and I reckon will be goneski by 30..
Like Gerryn as well from a local perspective, but fear another West Perth forward/ruck similar to Odin Jones may not be our way of thinking? Looks better than Jones though?

I just can't get behind a tall of any kind at 14 (crazy to say about Freo). Too many other good options. We have more rucks and KPDs on our list than basically any other team and our KPFs are superstars under 23. I wouldn't be using top capital on another one for at least 4 years.
