That's about 6-7 gone with the possibility of more and it pretty much impacts us across every line.

I have an opinion on who I think should stay or go in 2026 but I don't think we're in the position to put a line through them until we know who we have coming in.

Also need to bear in mind that our current draft hand is: 36, 47, 65 (based on last year's ladder positions). We have Harry Dean and Jack Ison (both defenders) to come in. Possibly some other NGA's (Clark, Gresham). And we're currently over-subscribed on our list by one.

We can trade ahead two years now, but may be reluctant to do so, with the likely heavy price to pay for Cody in 2026.

Most years you can figure on 6-10 changes on a list (in the bad years we had up to 14). But unless we lose TDK, or trade out players of significant value, we're unlikely to have draft capital to fill those gaps with top end talent.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone comes out of left field for Tom.

Sydney has a history of going after big name players. Not afraid to offer massive contracts and loves a tall to build their side around.

I could see Chad leaving and them using the money to offer Tom a mega deal, while banking a tonne of draft capital.

Tom gets a big money deal while also getting the play for a team that'll give him a chance at success.
Wouldn't be surprised if the Tiggs were the ones who come out of left field.

With Dusty, Rioli, Bolton etc off their books, they've probably got a fair bit of room in their salary cap. Lynch and Prestia in the final year of their respective contracts which will likely free up even more space.

Nankervis nearing the end, so I could easily see them making a pitch.

2025
1.
Jack Silvagni - Has already shown how important he is to us.. 3 year deal make him a Blue for life.
3.
Jesse Motlop - We need him to have a big year, is currently our #1 small forward however wouldnt be in the top 30 small forwards in the comp.
11.
Mitch McGovern - 1 year extension, reduced $
12.
Tom De Koning - Lock him in long term, not the crazy $ that has been spruiked by 7 years at 1.2mil gets it done.
14.
Orazio Fantasia - Gone
15.
Sam Docherty - 1 more year, transition to a coaching role
17.
Brodie Kemp - Trade.. Saints are desperate for a partner with King, could push for a late first pick, or early 2nd.
24.
Nic Newman - Keep forever
26.
Nick Haynes - Would want to lift..
29.
George Hewett (RFA) - Not against letting him go, similar to Kennedy last year if someone is going to pay him let him leave, but wouldnt be offering big $ for George.
31.
Harry Lemmey - Ruck depth is very limited, give him another year.
32.
Matt Carroll (Pre-season SSP 2025) - Gone
34.
Rob Monahan (International Rookie Cat B) - Who?
35.
Billy Wilson- Let the season play out, if he plays 10 games give him another year.
38.
Will White (Pre-Season SSP Rookie 2025) - Who?
39.
Alex Cincotta (Pre-season SSP 2023) - Is there room in our side for a tagger, reminds me of the situation with Ed, not good enough to be a genuine midfielder so unless we are playing him as a tagger doesnt have a role in the team.
41.
Matt Duffy (International Rookie Cat B) - Who
44.
Francis Evans (Pre-Season SSP Rookie 2025) - There is a reason 2 other teams have let him go..

I have an opinion on who I think should stay or go in 2026 but I don't think we're in the position to put a line through them until we know who we have coming in.
Are we getting a premiership out of that or just smugly twiddling our thumbs while sticking our tongues out at St. Kilda supporters?

1. Jack Silvagni - Give him however long he wants. Can play anywhere and knows his role. Tries his guts out.

3. Jesse Motlop - Goodbye. Lazy footballer with no standout qualities for a small forward

11. Mitch McGovern - Adios. Conditional footballer who we'd be better off moving on from.

12. Tom De Koning - Whatever it takes. Get it done.

14. Orazio Fantasia - Gone

15. Sam Docherty - Gone. Loved him at his best but time to go at the end of the year.

17. Brodie Kemp - Trade bait. If someone is willing to give us a 2nd I'd say he goes

24. Nic Newman - 1 more year for Noodles.

26. Nick Haynes - Gone.

29. George Hewett (RFA) - Solid depth. 2 year deal.

31. Harry Lemmey - Gone. Just not up to it imo unfortunately.

32. Matt Carroll (Pre-season SSP 2025) - 1-2 more years depending on how he goes this year.

34. Rob Monahan (International Rookie Cat B) - Gone

35. Billy Wilson- 2 year deal.

38. Will White (Pre-Season SSP Rookie 2025) - 1 more year depending on how he goes this year. Solid VFL player with upside.

39. Alex Cincotta (Pre-season SSP 2023) - If he's fine after coming back from his hip issue then keep. Solid player who plays multiple roles.

41. Matt Duffy (International Rookie Cat B) - 1 more year

44. Francis Evans (Pre-Season SSP Rookie 2025) - Adios

On top of that I'd be telling Williams, and Young if they want to stay they're doing a Daisy Thomas and voluntarily taking a large pay cut. Williams especially, his contract was an absolute disaster in the end.

We're not allowed to alter Williams' contract.
Daisy waived a trigger clause, and then took less money on his second contract.

It's way too early to make some of these calls.

Agree, though for an early season exercise into who needs to show something this year, Walshy's list isn't far off the mark.

Charleson should also be on the list, AFAIK he's out of contract end of this year.

Biggest list worry for me is TDK. Does he stay here for the rest of his career or does he look around at Cripps/Charlie/Harry/Weiters who have all been here for 10+ years, with years to run on their contracts, and no team success. I hope loyalty will win out in the end, or he goes to someone like Geelong who are always in the top 4.

I feel like he's a bit of a reflection on the whole team.

When things are going well, he's a very good interceptor with clean hands and looks elite in disposal.

When pressure is applied, he gets fumbly, marks suddenly slip through his hands and he misses targets.

He's not the only one, but you can see why he causes debate. He looks great, then he doesn't. I think by now after how many years we know what he is - good when things go his way, not so good when pressure is applied.

He was great early last week.

& then not.

I feel like we may be better letting him go at this point. We have a lot of expensive contracts, and our list balance clearly needs adjusting. He's a restricted free agent, so we could negotiate a trade and get better than band 1. Unfortunately, I think we're in a position where we need to rejuvenate the list, he has the value and the timing is right. The only downside with that is we'd be dealing with SOS who we know is a scrooge in these sorts of negotiations, but worst case scenario he leaves as FA and we just get band 1 compo, which may end up being a top 10 pick (hopefully not, but early signs aren't great).

Further, gun ruckmen don't seem to be a crucial step to getting a flag. Brisbane just won one with their backup, really all you need is a B grader in the spot. If we can get premium grade value for a position not essential in that process, then fine.
