yeah I think this would make more sense than trading 2 firsts. How does the deficit work? You could also just cop the deficit.
Hopefully the AFL would go by current deficit rules and ignore the Tassie picks.

If you're short of points, they take them off the future pick in the round that the bid is made.yeah I think this would make more sense than trading 2 firsts. How does the deficit work?
In the extreme scenario:If you're short of points, they take them off the future pick in the round that the bid is made.
But you get a maximum of points from them assuming that you won the flag, so the max deficit is pick 18, ie 836 points
No.In the extreme scenario:
Say we win the flag (natural pick 18), trade out our first rounder in 2026 and Walker goes pick 1. (3,000 points in deficit).
Could we just take the deficit and pay it off with whatever our first in 2027 is?
Wonder if, when we move to trading picks 2 years in advance, same will happen with deficit? That would be a good way to address this. i.e. allow deficit to be incurred over 2 years in same round.No.
We'd need to match 2700 points (3000 - 10%), with a deficit of 836 points allowed.
So if we weren't holding 1864 points in the 2026 draft, we would not be allowed to match the bid. Our chances of getting those points without using our 1st rounder is negligible.
I think they only let you take the deficit in the 1st round, and won't let you wipe your entire draft hand with deficit from 1 player match?Wonder if, when we move to trading picks 2 years in advance, same will happen with deficit? In the extreme case (we finish 1st in 2026, Cody goes pick 1). We need 2700 points. We find 1028 points in 2026 draft picks, and go 1672 points in deficit, eating up our 2027 and 2028 first round picks.
Yeah, I'm just surmising this might be something that happens - haven't heard anything about it. Think it would make sense - it shouldn't be impossible to do a deal like the above, just hard.I think they only let you take the deficit in the 1st round, and won't let you wipe your entire draft hand with deficit from 1 player match?
As far as I know they haven't announced any rules about deficits 2 years into the future.
heard Tomlinson to the Pies?If we keep 14 and 12 Trainor will be available at one of those picks most likely?
Why aren’t we looking at Tomlinson? Grainger Barass is bad.
Or the Owies clear out has allowed Weitering to sign and be announced…..The timing of the Weitering signing leaves me thinking that we’re getting our cap in place for Houston.
Didn’t see the need to otherwise finalise that piece of the puzzle right now.
We shuold be in to him as cover. S Durdin upgrade (and is better than Grainger Barass).heard Tomlinson to the Pies?
No current season stats available
I suspect whatever we are working on for pick #3 involves also gaining a pick in the 20’s or 30’s, which we will then use on a KPD (I’m tipping O’Halloran).Draper
B Campo
L Campo
Haynes
DGB
McMahon
I could get around an off season return like that
Maybe. I don’t think it will be this year unfortunately. I think we will get a F2 from the Hawks as it will be a 3 way trade involving Barrass. Maybe a 4 club trade that also includes Richmond, so you maybe right. Could be Richmond’s mid 20s pick but feel it will be the Hawks F2I suspect whatever we are working on for pick #3 involves also gaining a pick in the 20’s or 30’s, which we will then use on a KPD (I’m tipping O’Halloran).
Didn't someone from Richmond come on here yesterday stating we were in discussions to get a late 20s pick off them to safeguard a Campo bid. Could this be part of the deal? They said the info came from a well informed poster from memory.Maybe. I don’t think it will be this year unfortunately. Could be mate, I’m not sure. Not sure how Richmond’s pick 24 safe guards a campo bid though?Didn't someone from Richmond come on here yesterday stating we were in discussions to get a late 20s pick off them to safeguard a Campo bid. Just clutching at straws you may be right with Hawks F2 but I hope it's the other tbh.
It values Owies at around 24. No chance. And Richmond would want 14 for Baker alone so this scenario is throwing away 24. No chanceRichmond:
Out: Baker, Pick 24
In: Pick 14
Carlton
Out: Pick 12, Pick 14, Owies
In: Pick 3, Pick 24
West Coast:
Out: Pick 3
In: Pick 12, Baker, Owies
Trying to piece together rumours.
Seems like overs for us, maybe unders for Richmond
