Just the Carlton list is far worst than Lions, Tigers & Pies. Your arguement falls down when list quality is solely managed on the number of list changes per year & needs to be balanced to include retirements, trades. The key factor is the quality of player brought in to improve the list. Carlton's list quality was far from top flight 2 years ago.
Pies and Tigers?

You been on the hooch?

Of course it's about quality, but also availability. So cutting a number of injury prone types is a great move

Our list has been improving gradually, together with the core as a whole hitting prime years

The Tigers will struggle to win a game next year and you think that our list is worse than theirs?

Must be missing something because nobody in their right mind could make that statement.

My point was you can't criticise the Tigers list, 3 years after wininng 3 flags & compare their 10 changes to our 10 changes (or whatever the number)

Just on DGB - do we need another or someone who prefers to play as an intercept defender?
I’d prefer if these so called KPD players learn or know the defensive game first and foremost and stop looking for the easy out possessions. :p
Intercept Defender = Running away from opponent when you are getting soundly beaten 1 on 1. 😝

With Haynes, the elevating of Boyd, and the return of Duffy as a rookie A player, we have 32 senior list players, 4 rookie A and 1 rookie B.

That's 7 spots to fill and they can 4-6 seniors, or 1-3 rookies.

I think we will go with 5 seniors and 2 rookies at this stage. Pick 3, Pick 38 and the Campo boys, one DFA and 2 rookies.

If 38 is burnt on Ben Camporeale though, we'd probably take an extra DFA.

I'm loving the flexibility we have right now.

The point is we have room to add the likes of Allison if he suits us. With his endurance base and marking ability, he could be a tall winger like Mason Wood. He could end up being a lead up link player that means McKay can stay at home or we have a dual threat up the line.

We don't have that exact type. Acres would never be accused of being a key forward, so height and reach are two different things.

The Saints couldn't use him in that role as they already had Wood.

I at least like the out of the box thinking and reinventing of players with decent attributes but no form to fall back on.

I suspect we'll use 4 main list spots and 3 rookies. Lucas may be one of those rookies so we could still take Ben + pick 3 + 2 others.

The elephant in the room this off-season has been freeing up salary cap space and rookie listed players are cheaper so I fully expect Austin to maximize that.

Not sure how we were chasing Hayward - may have just been to make sure syd paid up.

I also expect more tough list decisions next off-season - the days of Cottrell level players getting 3+ year contracts are over.

Interesting how we are doing this. We have been speaking with him for a while

I thought we may have signed him as a DFA. But seems he will train and compete with Durdin for a spot. Says to me there isn't much interest in him elsewhere and we are a long way from being convinced

We'd be looking to add him as a rookie not a senior list spot. If we add him as a DFA he'd go straight on the senior list right?

Disappointing to hear that we're looking for more 3rd men up, what we really need is a dour Astbury-type stopper to release Weitering to CHB
It becomes about the long term mix. May well be a but if short term mix if deciding to keep Durdin V DGB. If Weits and Young are healthy, they may be more inclined to take on DGB.

We will be looking to draft a KPD, maybe even a second one depending how the domino’s fall in to the rookie draft. There is no compulsion to take two SSP types if a favoured player (e.g. West) happened to last until the rookie draft, or perhaps Lucas does, giving us another late pick.

Realistically if things don’t alter, Haynes, Young and McGovern are every chance to be gone in two years, or sooner. We also have the chance to assess the progress of Lemmey during much of the pre season, If he is to become a serious player, he would need to present like he wants it, and attack the pre season. Lemmey has the scope to change the playing field if the penny droos, so to speak. If he is close enough, we won’t need key defensive insurance IMO.

I really want McMahon to help “future proof” the list. A 22 yo KPF, the best performed in the VFL, who also can play back at a pinch, just makes sense. He may be starved of opportunity if Charlie and Harry stay fit, but our brains trust may also be more inclined to rest the Big Two if we have a player pressing in the reserves.

We absolutely need a young gun KPD. While I believe a genuine KPD stopper would be an adequate addition, I am not sure it will be the preferred option. A “complete” KPD contributing to ball movement as well as defence is surely the preferred option.

Absolutely, but those guys are harder to get - why not find a scrapper in the state leagues (or even JSOS from our own list) to properly utilise the one we already have?
