Not a chance imoWonder if Kemp could play the part time ruck as JSOS did, would add a string to his bow and allow H to stay forward when TDK is off having a rest.

And missed a soda dead in front in the last minutes to ice the game.Seven touches and one goal against the Saints would suggest that he was average at best.
Let's be honest, he's played one half decent game up forward against really poor opposition. However he will have more opportunities to impress as 3rd tall forward whereas previously he was being asked to be a key.
Comes in with no runs on the board up forward but with a clean slate.
Yep, was quite obvious because he was a tradeable commodity (along with MK, almost Kemp but not Lewis Young) and the dollars could be better allocated. Much like Tuohy’s circumstances, though he was low-balled vs not offered a contract. He was unlucky that he was the one out of contract and Williams was pushed out of the backline. You may be right in general about the wages, but that is what I was told by the man himself. He wasn't getting a contract.
Poor Kempy can’t get a break with some. Plays back, middle or forward just doesn’t cut it any longer with some posters. He didn't get spanked against the Saints and we hardly got the ball into our forward line against Brisbane.
I think he will be fine.
Disputing statements that he can play as a high half forward, deep in F50 or as a CHF when he's played 3 games up forward and only really had an impact on one of them has nothing to do with 'cutting it'.Poor Kempy can’t get a break with some. We have problems up forward in the big man area?Disputing statements that he can play as a high half forward, deep in F50 or as a CHF when he's played 3 games up forward and only really had an impact on one of them has nothing to do with 'cutting it'.
There's every chance the fwd experiment doesn't work out and he returns to the backline where he's played some very good footy depending on his match ups and the pressure up the field.
Lets at least wait until we see a month or two of form against quality opposition before proclaiming him as the answer to our problems up forward.
Not even gonna bother. We have problems up forward in the big man area?
Much prefer McKay to ruck. He's excellent at it and many times changed momentum going into the ruck. I'm hoping we ruck McKay more and rest TDK more often.Wonder if Kemp could play the part time ruck as JSOS did, would add a string to his bow and allow H to stay forward when TDK is off having a rest.
The Tigers won three flags pretty much doing that.... with less tall timber up forward than we have....Bombing in long can be a good strategy especially if a deep entry and not a shallow entry as the team know where the ball is going and the smalls can get to the feet of the pack and pressure any rebounds which in turn helps with repeat entries as the backs and midfield can lock in from half forward and wings. But the smalls need to be very good at pressure or kick snaps more often our smalls have not been great at either.
I can understand the frustration with bombing in long but if the team is set up for it, it can work and did for long periods. The best strategy is use both long kicks deep and short kicks to a player in space.
This hyper specialising of roles and implications that football players have not a modicum of flexibility is nonsense. Especially when it's overdosed with a dollop of the coach would prefer roles to performance.Different roles. I'm normally one of the first ones on here to critique our small forward brigade, but realistically Moir wasn't going to apply the necessary pressure to replace a small forward. He would have been coming in for Kemp if anything.
We were. We had a large proportion of fans 'we won I'm happy but burn the tape' - or has that been forgotten because '2nd place'We weren’t bombing it when we were 2nd on the ladder. Or were we?
The issue arises when it's the only strategy and the opposition are set up for it while our small/med forwards are nowhere to be found.Bombing in long can be a good strategy especially if a deep entry and not a shallow entry as the team know where the ball is going and the smalls can get to the feet of the pack and pressure any rebounds which in turn helps with repeat entries as the backs and midfield can lock in from half forward and wings. A lot would need to go wrong for that to happen.Wonder if Kemp could play the part time ruck as JSOS did, would add a string to his bow and allow H to stay forward when TDK is off having a rest.
We don't talk about that. And missed a soda dead in front in the last minutes to ice the game.

Good chatWhat's the deal with this Grainger-barrass fellow? Is he still training?

yes, therein lies the challenge.... and opportunity.Their small forwards (while not stars) were goal kickers and put on mass pressure. Ours…
Yeah, most teams that maintain long winning runs usually do so through efficiency. Even when they aren't playing well, or aren't dominating, they just find it easier to defend and score, by the way they set-up and move the ball. They win easy.I personally think the stoppage/high down wing, high into pack in the forward line led to team wide attrition. This is marginally different to some other teams that use more overlap and extra run in their games. We ship goals to the Pies fwds who are 15 metres by themselves while Harry contests in packs of 3-10 'most times'.
Charlie's goals are also so much harder than opponents goals. Maybe his ankle/injury is an outcome of our more combative style of Charlie and Harry competing in huge marking packs. I think there is a possibility that our Cripps based stoppage preference also takes its toll on our players.
We need some more luck to hold out an entire season, more general injury luck and maybe, just maybe, some easier lead and mark goals for our forwards. Think N Reiwoldt running up and back and one on ones or uncontested mark/goals. We dont have any of those.
I part agree. Partly disagree. I think during our strong part to last season and the season before there were times that we looked to win easily. But it’s still rare enough to be worrying. It has got better though. It is probably time to measure performance of players in the context of winning a flag - players being able to perform at their best when the pressure to perform and execute is at maximum point. Same goes for coaching.
It has been 20 years since I started watching AFL and supporting Carlton - waiting to see a list as good as this which should be contending and be a genuine pointy end of the season proposition and I think the time is now and over the following 2 years.
The last time I was optimistic was Rattens' last year before injury cruelled the team - just after it was robbed of a prelim by a shitty ump call in the dying minute when Walker earned a free kick in front of goals - and it wasn't paid. After that teh Club decided to knife Ratten and bring in the con artist malthouse who then proceeded to rid Carlton of the best forward line in the game - all of them gone because of this or that BS reason and dissatisfaction with Malthouse.
I'm patient - I have never experienced a prelim win let alone a GF win or loss featuring Carlton.
If Kemp cant kick a goal to win a game from an easy set shot- he isnt going to cut the mustard - simple - same reason I put a red line through McGovern when he couldn't even kick a one pointer against Collingwood after the siren went - choked. Same reason I am happy to see Owies GONE- he cost two losses in 2023 because he cracks under percieved pressure with regulation field kicks - is why we missed finals - was happy to se Stocker gone for same reason.
Some people on here are happy to point fingers at coach and game plan and fair enough - I want the same critical lens to be applied to players....- I like Kempy and have also seen him as a natural attacking player rather than a defender- attacking players of his height and marking ability have to kick easy set shots otherwise - trade bait. I am glad Moir is looking good just as I am happy Durdin, Fantasia will pressure Motlop for a small spot.
Carlton needs the role players to execute when required if not lift significantly above previous performance levels if the Club is to win a flag - time is now- no excuses for anyone. I am no longer "team is in developing mode" - team must be in win mode week in week out.
