I found this very interesting. Seems the AFL just tweak the academy rules every year to assist who ever they need to 😂.
Will be great to see these perennial contenders given more help to stay up the top.
In all seriousness how could st kilda ever compete on talent when these clubs are nearly getting 2 first round picks every year.

Its blatant draft tampering!

On CPH2145 using BigFooty.com mobile app

I think the current motivation for players is to hit clubs just off a premiership. The idea of being part of a rebuild that might eventually play a final isn’t what most free agents dream of. Money seems to not be a huge factor and in fact scares a few who don’t want the added pressure
Spot on here Gringo.
Can’t put a price on those hard yards, losses, negativity in media etc.
Money only brings so much comfort, so I don’t blame Callaghan/SDK types for turning our offers down.
Now, Saints in a semi final threatening a prelim? Historic second flag in reach? That we could sell, and the payday is the bonus.
It would be a fascinating exercise to see H.Reid return to Vic and see the bidding war. What price would we actually have to stump up to sign him and outweigh the big clubs/immediate success and so on.
On field is everything. We have to get it right.

It wouldn't be for players. It's more for agents.

Agents so give advice to thier clients after all

Players don't want to play 10 years in a side going nowhere. You need to give the impression of moving forward to be attractive.

So they give with one hand and take with another under the table. Everything about the AFL management is manipulated to the point of corruption. The major professional sporting organisations in Australia desperately need over sight by a Govt Regulatory body, they are shocking.

Two of those three aren't losing games. Two of those three have been in the top eight on a regular basis.

We aren't the first club to discover being shithouse means you don't attract talent and sure as he'll won't be the last.

You're selling this club. What are they getting for thier big bag of money?
Finishing 10th while playing infront of 6 people at Marvel.

The only fix is to sort our shit out. Win games and playing finals will attract players.
We’ve made finals twice since 2020. The Hawks have made it once in that time and have not progressed further than we did in that time. Also, Adelaide haven’t made finals at all in the past 7 seasons. None in 5 years under zero, nix, nada, nil or whatever the bald man calls himself.

Players are the ones who need to make sure a side is going somewhere.

That's fine but if you have plenty of options, you are choosing a club in the premiership hunt.

The lists of both look significantly closer to being in premiership contention in the next 5 years. Right at this moment we look a long way back from that. We would probably have been better to stay down for a few years and crammed games into youth.

Essendon are probably the closest to us list wise but maybe a year or two ahead. We really need a lot to go right for us and not have many slip ups from here. Also need to hope that our drafting has been elite.

IOf you dont think hawthorn havent progressed further than us, you probably need to watch footy a bit more.

Won 16 of the last 18 last year and are a MILE ahead of us

I’m waiting for all of King, Henry, Pou, Howard, Dow, Owens, Sharman, Travaglia and Tarau come into the side. There’s some serious star power amongst those 9, YES NINE.

How can the so-called media “experts” such as the purple knobhead, Derek Zoolander, Caro “Dorian Gray” Wilson and the cornhole make their sweeping statements about our impending doom, without considering the players named above?

Unfortunately, some on here have drunk the media Kool Aid and are panicking. We were shit on Sunday, however there were compelling reasons for it, most of which will be resolved with the returns from injury.

Think back to the second half of last year. We went 8-4, including wins over Geelong, the Swines, Carlton and Essendope all of whom were either fighting for their places in the eight, or hoping to force their way in.

Unfortunately our slow start to the year saw us come up just short of finals and it looks like we might tread a similar path this year. However, I think the list is more than competitive and a chance of making the 8. Go saints!

I don't think we've had more 22 and unders with higher ceilings since 2004.
The question is whether we can maximise the potential.
I like Lindsay, but he does remind me of Billings. You know what you're going to get. Tauru could be a flash in the pan, or he could be the most electric swingman we've seen.
I like the focus on development coaches and programs to fast-track and maximise the potential of these kids.

We are going to be a better side with our full list available but realistically there isn't any established stars in that lot. We Need to significantly improve all those guys and hope a lot of players have massive internal growth that are playing now. Last year we locked down matches too. This year without Battle and Howard our defence is a huge liability and our midfield is lazy apart form Macrae. To me we look significantly further away than last year from the last 2 games. We need to prove something tomorrow or it will be another wasted season before it has even got out of first gear.

Let’s see them against some decent opposition. I’ll give them the Sydney win, but both Essendon and Carlton will be bottom 6 this year and neither win was super convincing.

Like the way they go about it but they’re not that far ahead of the pack

Definitely agree, our list is significantly better but if none of them can get o the park it's like having a broken down Porsche in the driveway.
