He's the Wayne Gretzky of the afl. He doesn't go where the puck goes. He goes where the pucks going to go.I think there is an aspect of the game that Gulden is the best at (at the club; and in the top handful in the league) and that’s his understanding of the game. That’s both at a high level - ie his understanding of what is possible and what his team is trying to do - but also in the moment. He senses what the next move is, and the next move after that, how the moment is unfolding.
That’s as much the key to how much ball he gets as are his elite endurance, his will to work relentlessly and his skill at winning the ball.
Link?Errol on a 9 minute interview on RSN this morning says he wants to be a Swan for life .
It was on RSN go to their website !Link?

Made me remember a huge rundown on Pendlebury.Reason number 4794213 why Errol Gulden is a very good footballer...
Had a long drive yesterday so listened to a bunch of footy podcasts and on one of them I heard that Gulden was 6th in the competition for tackles in general play last year.
I'm pretty sure it was David King or Nathan Buckley (they all sorta blurred into one after the first few hours..) who said that tackles in general play were more influential than tackles in stoppages, because where tackles in stoppages often lead to just repeat stoppages, tackles in general play create the turnovers that become the intercepts that become the number one source of scoring in footy. (Dean Cox also talked about the importance of scoring from turnovers in an interview last week.)
We all marvel at what Gulden does with the ball, but I think what makes him the great player he is is that his game is truly so well-rounded, so he can contribute even without the ball.
I am in awe of Pendlebury. I have seen him walk. Walk around 6 Sydney players and deliver the ball.Made me remember a huge rundown on Pendlebury.
Pendlebury controls space and time. Gulden not there yet but you get the feeling he's working on it. In 20 years time we will look back on him in more than just awe.I am in awe of Pendlebury. I have seen him walk. Walk around 6 Sydney players and deliver the ball.
I am becoming in awe of Gulden.

I plan to be here at 91.Spot on!
hmmn … 20 years is an ask for some of us.
I feel like the two go hand in hand though. COVID made that U18s year impossible to judge and probably effected many players' development since. Almost has to be viewed with an asterisk. To think - Errol stayed on the shelf until pick 32, in what is turning out to be the weakest draft in a decade.
His size and that he was dominating in NSW were what went against him. Had he been 10cm taller he would have gone top 10, had he been in Vic he would have gone top 5To think - Errol stayed on the shelf until pick 32, in what is turning out to be the weakest draft in a decade.
They all got caught up in the Campbell hype, which still amuses me greatlyTo think - Errol stayed on the shelf until pick 32, in what is turning out to be the weakest draft in a decade.

It was the same with Heeney and MillsThey all got caught up in the Campbell hype, which still amuses me greatly
To an extent, but Errol was still there in plain sight. He was judged (in media reports) as BOG for his losing team in the U17 pre-GF exhibition game that elevated Campbell in draft estimations. And he’d been the better performed on the two as an under-ager in the academy matches the year before. They all got caught up in the Campbell hype, which still amuses me greatly

I think it was in 2019, as an U17, that he was adjudged BOG in the Premier Division GF, and the following year when he came second in that league’s B&F. I realise the SFL isn’t a competition that the recruiters pay much attention to, but it was at least competitive footy in a year (2020) where practically none was played in Victoria.
Yes it was a good interview. A lot of off field stuff covered and some questions on what makes him tick. Wish there were more like that. That's a really enjoyable interview.
I get the impression that players tend to open up a bit with Cal Twomey, because it's more like a chat and off-field things (eg music) get a fair airing.
As a side note AFL.com.au asked readers for their views on premiers, top 8 etc and in the Brownlow medal question Errol ranked third (13% of votes) behind N.Daicos (31%) and Bontempelli (22%) from 5306 respondents.
