The original rules I had set out was to give the full 8 hours (in case of work, something unexpected, etc) with the hope that it would be very rare and that we could move quickly - with people giving me a list if expecting to be offline.

I then suggested we assign people the next highest brownlow vote earner once the time elapsed. Am happy if people prefer to leave it blank and allow the poster to come back and select from who's left when they return.

Remember, player and pick trading is available also.
Yeah, that's the way it usually runs.

Ok, well there is one hour left.

Once we hit 4:35 pm AEST, Sphynx may make his selection regardless of whether Port have made their pick or not.

Once he returns, whatwhatsaywhat can make his selection of whoever is left.

(I'll update the rules in the OP too)

I think its a pain if someone is ALWAYS taking 5+ hours per pick. But for once off not an issue.

Best solution and pretty fair imo 👌🏻

I had 30 'Category 1' players listed, with the first 26 selected on that list.

Tom Lynch the first Category 2.
Without injuries he'd be higher or projected to finish higher.

But we're talking about someone 76th on the all time goal kicking list with a single All Australian selection. Does he have any high quality seasons left? We have some excellent key forwards and general forwards to pick from still.

Barry Hall

4 x AA, Premiership Captain, AFL MVP. 11 x club leading goal kicker at 3 different clubs.

Goals per game average pretty much only inferior to Lloyd, Buddy and Fev in this pool and he played a big chunk of his career at CHF. So it elevates him right up there.

Probably one of the more underrated CV's of the modern era imo.

On raw numbers he's probably ahead of Brown, Treadrea etc imo.

Very close call with Kennedy for mine.

News Flash- Update Review

We are off to a hot start in the 95 onwards draft with the obvious battle of Franklin and Ablett for the top 2 spots kicking things off, the choice was right in my opinion not on quality of player but for structure and quality, as expected some of the better midfielders have been pushed down the order and quality players will be overlooked but for just how long as people play a bit of a waiting game on some of their all-time favourite players.

Pick 3 was a shock but just because of my all time ranking list in my head, a great management call on the selectors behalf securing one of the best conventional full forwards of all time, the Dunstall of his generation not as many highlights but could do all the things expected well and above. 900 + goals and you can build around that what you like no rush in getting a top grade chf as well with that spearhead.

Pavlich in the 5 position is a great choice for versatility it keeps your selections wide open for the picks ahead if another great forward is available he plays chf or in the middle.

Pick 7 is the steal so far to think that Judd would slide to 7 is a steal and although justified with great selections before was hard to see coming. So this has set up for Judd to who ever they take next with still quite a decent pick, well done to this coach.

Mcleod is one I didnt see coming but in hindsight there has been no classier player really and his carry and disposal is as valuable to a side as any, a big game player who could get 30 of the most damaging possessions known to man.

Cox is the best ruckman I have seen and was a star of the premiership era and also rated in the top 5 players in the 2010-2012 era as well so his long standing career mixed with him being a unicorn of a player is something great to build around. He seperated the best midfield conversations as well by him being the stand out ruckman in any all time list of midfields in the past.

GWS selections have been bold and amazing Goodes and Fevola both electrifying and if you are within 30 points going into the last ypu are a big chance, both game winners who love the big stage and undervalued in there peak peformance in the AFL. Fev coming into the right side and extending the career by another 3 years would be lovely as well, Adam playing 320 plus games from memory as well well set up there for a great draft.

Collingwood selecting J Brown and Bont its set up for "boys run behind me ill show you the way" two leaders by actions and big strong physical footballers who will set the tone for a successful side.

Fyfe and Cameron two genuine showcase stars who will be amazing to watch in their primes expect sell out crowds with these two.

A slightly "defensive" move in more ways than one by me with the two best available key backmen, its hard watching these key forwards slip away!

Decent update but not enough love for Kennedy and Danger! Now I harbour some serious resentment which will no doubt manifest itself on the weekend, after I have a few bevvies, start selecting to be spiteful and posting gifs which are bordering on banworthy.

XOXO - AE

Sorry that is a lovely combination, slipped through to the keeper my mistake.

Interesting question to revisit an old trade - at the start of the careers would the two coaches agree to a swap of Chris Judd for J Kennedy and an upgraded pick?

This is a really hard one.

We lucked out by getting Judd at his absolute freak best but then Kennedy became a Champion too.
What happened was just about perfect.

I'd go Kennedy +3+20 as traded for Judd +46
BUT

I'd pick different players...Was never a fan of Masten in his draft year but did really like Danger.
* Hindsight hero it's true. Most of our board didn't want Masto actually.

This one is tough. Consideration post before my actual pick:

I'm more of the "full transparency" approach on this, as usually the other players I considered wouldn't be available anyway. This early into the draft there are no hidden surprises.

So I could bolster the forward line before the elite KPFs are all gone. Pavlich at CHF, midfield or even CHB means there is definitely a need for another rock solid goal scorer. Contenders: Tex Walker, Fraser Gehrig, Charlie Curnow, Scott Lucas...

But, even though there have been many great midfielders and a lot of them will be available across rounds 3-8, balance-wise I am going to take one of the absolute champions from this cohort with my second pick.

The obvious ones jumping out at me are (in chronological order) Ben Cousins, Simon Black, Dane Swan and Joel Selwood.

Swan's best few years matched some of the very best ones of Ablett and Judd. But it took him about 6 seasons to get going and I picked him in my last one, so I'll rule him out.

Black was one of the classiest and most prolific midfielders of his era, with longevity keeping him elite after the rest of the Fab Four retired or moved out of midfield. He still gets slept on a bit but his play rivalled the likes of Pendlebury and Mitchell.

Selwood was a gun right from the start: Rising Star in year one (beating Pendles), 5th in the Player MVP (Leigh Matthews Trophy) in year two, All Australian in years 3 and 4. Leadership through the roof, with his impact in that respect also set from day one. 6x AA's and he was one of the main factors that kept Geelong somehow knocking on the door rather than falling to irrelevancy after the 2007-2011 dynasty. Too often a standalone warrior in losing finals when he was no longer in a team of champions. Right through to being one of the dominant players in the first half of the 2022 grand final when the match was decided.

Then Cousins is one who still sort of gets slept on, maybe not helped by the messy end to his career and all that followed. The other champs had stronger conclusions to their career and maintained standards for longer. Yet Cousins was elite from as early as 1998 right through to 2006/2007. A Brownlow and Player MVP winner while playing alongside the very best version of Judd, in premiership contending sides. He had the skills to balance out Judd's other electric attributes and together they dominated the league (with able support from Kerr et al), considering that side lacked a forward line and the defence was good but not truly outstanding.

What a build up!

They should do this on draft night!

In the end I'm going to say that Cousins had the slight edge in playing career, especially in terms of the level of his peak few seasons. But following on from Pavlich, if we land Selwood we also have leadership and culture set from day one. Two guns almost right from the start and players to build forward and midfield lines around.

Thus the Westside Pavlovas select the man who is 7th for all time career Brownlow votes: Joel Selwood.
