Luke Parker
Luke Parker has plenty of football ahead and has already compiled a resume packed with impressive achievements. Since landing at the Sydney Swans via the 2010 AFL Draft, he has won a 2012 premiership medal, earned All Australian selection and won two Bob Skilton medals. In 2015, he was added to the club’s leadership group at the age of just 22, and has led the team as a co-captain alongside Josh Kennedy and Dane Rampe since 2019. While Parker is among the league’s elite midfielders, his strong marking and expert game awareness make him a genuine threat when rotating through the forward line.

Luke Parker
DOB: 25 October 1992
DEBUT: 2011
DRAFT: #40, 2010 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Langwarrin (Vic)/Dandenong U18

Parker sneaking up the all time Swans games list.
After yesterday's game he is on 261 games and into 7th position.

Should catch Jude but probably not Goodsey.

Probably won't catch Goodesy but could go down as the biggest 'winner' in club history if the Swans have a few more deep finals campaigns.

Definitely. It made me feel as though I probably underappreciate what he does (and possibly what a lot of captains do) on the field.
Yeah absolutely me too. I was really struck by how he was communicating with Mills. "Are you wing? Okay hold" or whatever it was. It was clear that he really is holding a lot of moving parts about what roles everyone else is playing at any given moment, where they should be and what they should be doing etc.

The thing that struck me, is that while he is giving accolades to others for a job well done, giving directions for the current play, he is also following the game plan, implementing strategies, monitoring the game itself, AND playing his own role. This in effect allows Mills, Warner and Rowbottom to concentrate on playing their role (not to detract from their efforts at all) while all the work he is doing in the background goes unnoticed!

Next time someone tells me we need to loose an older gun for a young bloke, I'm going to play them that!!

I have thought he was a gun for years... but really, I had no idea!!!

I wouldn't assume Parker is the only one on the team that does this. Even though he was directing Mills I would fully expect that Mills would be doing the same thing, potentially with Parker but surely with others. I am impressed by Parker's voice - we often hear the club talking about how this is important. Errol is another who we know pipes up all the time.

Agreed, I'm sure there's nothing overly unique about Parker's leadership on a field in a vocal and strategic sense. Where he is unique is that he backs it up with the way he plays. There's been nobody consistently crack in harder than Parker over the years, and it paints a more complete picture to know that the bloke who plays like a mad hatter also barks out orders and directs his team like one.

Rampe does the same in the back line.
I recall a game at Homebush a few years back. Hardly anyone there and I was near the back line and heard every word. By the end of the game he had nearly lost his voice.
I wonder who directs the forward line? Papley? Heeney? Doubt that it's Bud. Interesting.

I think Buddy is a leader too

would like to hear him mic up actually , would be interesting as some think he shouldn't be in at the expense of younger key forwards

I would disagree a little with these... Bucks (On the Couch) seemed to think that very few do it to Parkers level.

If you listen to that section, he says so, right before he say that Parker is a GUN!

That's true, but I can't imagine that says much about most other captains then. I'd have thought barking out instructions and holding your teammates accountable within their roles would sorta be the bare minimum for a captain, but I'm just guessing

And you don't
Of coarse I do. Some people make more errors than others.

It's amazing how every Swan is exempt from any sort of criticism around here.

Things are great

Wel do better in the next gf

Horse nails selections every week

Buddy has years left

Paddy is fine

Heeney is a God

Parker tries his hardest so we can accept his handballs to ground on 2m targets

Couldn't be happier with the way the club is progressing

I think you are getting a bit excitable.
No need to throw the teddy bear in the bin.
We are in this season.
Take a chill pill.
Every club has issues to deal with. We have less than most others.
Don't get your negativity.
You have exposed your thoughts on many players in your post.
Next week I expect there will be others on your list.
Why not enjoy the ride rather than deride.

We are rising?
