Luke Parker
Luke Parker has plenty of football ahead and has already compiled a resume packed with impressive achievements. Since landing at the Sydney Swans via the 2010 AFL Draft, he has won a 2012 premiership medal, earned All Australian selection and won two Bob Skilton medals. In 2015, he was added to the club’s leadership group at the age of just 22, and has led the team as a co-captain alongside Josh Kennedy and Dane Rampe since 2019. While Parker is among the league’s elite midfielders, his strong marking and expert game awareness make him a genuine threat when rotating through the forward line.

Alternatively, we could have played him in the seniors this year as soon as he was available (because, you know, he IS a best 22 player after all). Shown that we still valued him as a player. And Parker doesn't become disgruntled and look for opportunities elsewhere. We get to keep a great player in the final year of his contract and consider a 1 year extension once his contract expires (provided his form warrants it). And we're not paying a portion of his salary in 2025 to play elsewhere.

No matter how many times I play the 2024 season back in my mind. The one thing I can't get over is how monumentally Horse ballsed up the whole Parker situation.
I still don't see how Horse ballsed the Parker situation up whatsoever. The forward line we ended up going with in finals just proved that Horse was correct to prioritise a pressure forward like Wicks over Parker all along. If anything, Horse ballsed up in the end by favouring a slow player like Parker over someone like a Cleary. It seems really clear that next year we cannot go with the same slow forward line. We need more speed and we need more pressure and unless Horse was going to break from the three talls structure (which most teams in the comp are running with), then Parker was always going to be the one to make way.

Another thing to consider is that staying with us for that extra year wouldn't have done Parker himself any favours. If the above situation I described eventuated, Parker would spend most of the year in the VFL, further plummeting his value. From there - another year older and a VFL staple - there's a good chance North, or any other club, wouldn't have come knocking a second time, while any offer he'd get from us would be peanuts relative to what he's instead now scored himself from North. I think the trade was Parker-driven and was about securing the best deal for himself to prolong his career, and he has done that.

If it was not about his future, but instead the past, and about what happened this year, then that would be incredibly disappointing and to Parker I would say - good riddance. He wants out of the club that's done so much for him for so long, because he had to spend a few weeks in the VFL? Adam Goodes once had a stint in the reserves. JPK, ROK, Jack & Richards all finished their careers in the reserves. They were all better players than Parker. He is not above the reserves. No individual is greater than the team. I simply don't believe that the Parker who equally has given as much to this club, would be so petulant.

The Parker era was over. We had to move on. And we did until him and Mills came back in as panic inclusions reverting us back to the same dour style that we thought we had moved on from.
You honestly think then 2 made the team just fall of the cliff

Geez that’s just complete garbage and you know it , you’re normally better than the spill your singing.

Grundys drop of of goes missed? , or amerty going without seeing it?

He's not analysing the complete form drop off, just how Parks fits in. There are many components that have been hashed over interminably. The GF you need to point about 20 fingers.

Talk about diving head first into the deep end. Parker has been involved with everything, on field and off field. Feeling very settled has been loving every part of his move south. The move has seemingly given him a new lease on his footy career and for the first time in 3 years he has a full preseason under his belt.

The younger guys particularly Wardlaw are enamoured by him and are already walking a little taller due to his and Daniel’s influence.

Parker really loves the development side of the game and is enjoying working with Barlow in particular, from my understanding he has sort of taken it upon himself to really help drive that development and professionalism in the younger players (particularly the midfield group).

Every single thing I hear about his influence is incredibly positive and I totally stand by my earlier calls that he could have a Hodge at Brisbane like influence on this young group.

sad as it is to see him go, it really is a win-win-win. Frees up a spot for us (Sheldrick please) and North gets a great leader for their young team, and Luke gets a couple more years on decent coin, with probably a coaching role going forward.
