Wifi looks really underdone so you have to wonder why he is in the ones. Maybe could use a couple more runs in the twos. 16 touches yesterday so ok without imposing himself on the game. Just needs more time.

Depth is a problem still, even with our midfield. Tucker and Wardlaw can address that in time.

PERSPECTIVE

So let’s compare 20 year old WAP, who’s missed 2/3 of his last 3 years of footy with others we could have picked at 3 in 2020:

WAP - game 18

16 touches, 4th most contested possessions on the ground, 2 contested marks, 5 tackles

Braeden Campbell - game 28 today

12 touches, 6 tackles

Elijah Hollands - game 8 today

13 touches, 0 tackles 0 goals

Denver Granger Barras - not sure how many games

Can’t get an afl game at the moment

Logan McDonald

13 disposals, 8 marks 1.2

Interestingly in year 1 WAP averaged more contested marks than McDonald. Thus far this year, WAP also averages more contested marks per game.

LDU - game 18

12 touches, 2 tackles

Cunners - game 18

15 touches, 6 tackles

Year 1 ave 13.8 disp
Year 2 ave 12.9 disp
Year 3 ave 18.4 disp

PERSPECTIVE
Great perspective.

Will Phil looked real good against Freo.
Will Phil looked no good against Hawks.

But at his height & limited leg speed, he is going to need to have exquisite hands & have elite ball use if he is going to make it at AFL level.

You can sugar-coat it all you like, but that's the reality. Fingers crossed.

Yeh the spread and tank aren’t there yet but his marking is good and his kicking is still sweet. Reminds me of a young and raw Dane Swan tbh.
...

I've never been able to nail a good comparison, but that Dane Swan comparison is perfect for Will. He's a better user by foot than Swan but very similar stylistically.

Taking names in this thread.

I got glandular fever last year around the same time as Will and more than a year later I'm still not 100%. It can take a really long time to recover especially if you try to rush it.

Give it 18 months and this thread will be full of "glad he proved me wrong" posts

I'm still not 100% 12 years later. Absolutely ****ed virus

Didn’t play against Freo and yes he does have exquisite hands and elite ball use.

No one is expecting consistency from an inside mid yet to play 30 games. I don’t think people expected that of LDU.

But LDU still played the same brand of football in his first AFL games compared to his junior footy. If you showed people footage of Will’s junior and AFL footy to someone who didn’t know he was, I doubt they would say they were the same player.

He is yet to show his greatest assets. This can mean either really good or bad things are to come for North.
In Will's first game he ran thirty metres and smashed into a contest like an in his prime Paul Kelly.

Play the kids, they said, just play the kids.

Nekminnit, why are all these kids so young and inexperienced and lacking core strength and endurance? Send them back to the VFL and bring back the over 28 list cloggers.

I'm not unhappy playing him in the ones - just he doesn't look fit. Not sure if it helps him.
