He can be an upgrade on the Kayne Turner role when he gets a better tank, can kick a goal, loves to tackle and will be able to put on pressure. Plus he strikes me as a player that would be happy to do the team role when it's his turn.Unfortunately like so many of our mids, he lacks versatility. So he needs high CBA’s to be effective. Is he going to get them? Clarko said when warlord gets in, he‘s going straight to the coalface. Where does this leave Will?
Played pretty much as half forward against the blues, had two rundown tackles, 17 touches and a goal, in a role he has barely ever played and with only 15 full games under his belt. He'll be fine as one of the 4-5 rotating mids.Unfortunately like so many of our mids, he lacks versatility. So he needs high CBA’s to be effective. Is he going to get them? People judging output when he’s going through glandular fever.Yeah. I don't get the stuff about him being slow and unathletic.
In 2 years our best midfield set up will be LDU, Wardlaw and Phillips/Simpkin imo.Unfortunately like so many of our mids, he lacks versatility. So he needs high CBA’s to be effective. Yep I can see that, but Will will have to bide his time while Cunners & Greenhead are in the team.In 2 years our best midfield set up will be LDU, Wardlaw and Phillips imo.
Simpkin right there too and probably starting on a forward flank, rotating into mid - he and Phillips could just swap in those roles. Powell unlucky.
We've got an embarrassment of riches in the midfield.
If we ever lost our minds and put WilPhil up for trade, Gold Coast would do backflips to snare him for how much better he makes Rowell and Anderson.Yeah I first noticed wilphi as 17yr old when watching Rowell/ Anderson and he was practically matching their outputs then.
You don’t lose that sort of talent - build that tank and watch out
Considering what we have in the list, if King said he wanted to come home, would WillPhil be a piece of the puzzle that could get it done?If we ever lost our minds and put WilPhil up for trade, Gold Coast would do backflips to snare him for how much better he makes Rowell and Anderson.
I hope this is Will's eventual role. Funnily enough this type of player sounds quite similar to the man who gave the jersey and number to Will.He can be an upgrade on the Kayne Turner role when he gets a better tank, can kick a goal, loves to tackle and will be able to put on pressure. I have been critical of WPs fitness over the last couple of weeks. I think trading him would be a massive mistake. I have a feeling he could be Mitchell-esque in his impact when he gains confidence in his body and fitness.Considering what we have in the list, if King said he wanted to come home, would WillPhil be a piece of the puzzle that could get it done?
Not saying we do it, just interested to hear how dispensable people might think he would be to get someone like King?
HFF until he gets his body 100%. His use inside 50 is a point of difference that we do not yet possess anywhere else on our list.I hope this is Will's eventual role. Funnily enough this type of player sounds quite similar to the man who gave the jersey and number to Will.
First to rotate in the midfield and can kick a goal or two when in the HFF position.
But would you do it if it secured you a player like Ben King?I have been critical of WPs fitness over the last couple of weeks. I think trading him would be a massive mistake. I have a feeling he could be Mitchell-esque in his impact when he gains confidence in his body and fitness.
If we think he is coping shit now - wait til you hear what would be said if this eventuated. He can be an upgrade on the Kayne Turner role when he gets a better tank, can kick a goal, loves to tackle and will be able to put on pressure. He's getting enough centre bounce attendances so they clearly see a role for him in there. Can't see Phillips as a starting, leading center square midfielder, but as a swingman role playing winger or half forward that could replace Turner? Yeah this feels like a natural fit for Will, and it's a clear upgrade on Turner.
Not saying he can't or shouldn't play midfield minutes, in fact as a swingman it would make him that much more versatile, but what I'm saying is that I can't see him ever patrolling the midfield like a LDU, Simpkin, Sheezel or Cunnington can or have the potential to do. Just doesn't have the physical attributes. He's getting enough centre bounce attendances so they clearly see a role for him in there.
Do you still see Powell having a spot on our list?In 2 years our best midfield set up will be LDU, Wardlaw and Phillips/Simpkin imo.

Absolutely. There's a good chance he gets ahead of Phillips, it's all guesswork in the end.Do you still see Powell having a spot on our list?
