That’s one Brownlow Vote that Phillips polled against the Gold Coast has held him in good stead. :stern look
I know that this perennial joke is a hoot, but for any North player to receive a Brownlow vote in the last 10 years surely says something about how well he played.

Phillips is way off it at the minute but that’s not to say he won’t get his chance and take it later in the season. It would be nice to see him dominate at VFL Level to begin with. :stern look
In all seriouslyness, what would arouse you more? Will Phillips dominating in the VFL and earning a recall, or Will Phillips stinking it up so you can shit stir some more? Also, if Will Phillips is the dominator, who wears the gimp suit? Asking for a friend.

Fascinating. :stern look

If WillPhil can show this type of form from his junior days in the VFL over the month of April in the 2nds, he will be marched directly into the senior side. Really great package of what he could do as a junior, and why rated so highly at the time. Clean, great distributor both sides of the body and looks so much quicker than what I have ever seen him since joining the Kangas. As long as the coaches are consistent with their messaging to him on what he needs to do, then I have no issue so far in 2024 not being picked. The ball
is in his court now to return the faith.

Don’t forget that junior football is slower, even Cunners looked like he had an extra yard playing juniors.

Will will get his opportunity. From a mid mix perspective, we are lacking a big bodied mid and some defensive speed. He can’t provide that, but he can try and beat out others for one of the inside roles.

I'd like to see him become a tackling beast. If we can't get clean possession in the stoppages and win the clearance, then we need to put a lot more pressure on the opposition and force a second stoppage more often than not. There is surely a role for somebody who dedicates himself to the 1%'ers and pressure acts.

I'm not sure he will get a game until Wardlaw is injured, especially if his form in the twos isn't kicking the door down.

Its not just that we already have two players in LDU and Wardlaw who aren't able to play in multiple roles.

Phillips' endurance has to also be AFL standard.

The other mids are already compensating for Wardlaw's low ToG. Currently he's averaging 70%.

Well Phillips is yet to have a season where he averages higher than 70% ToG.

Having two exclusive inside mids who get benched for almost a third of the game is a considerable handbrake on our rotations.

It would also be an onerous weight on LDU and Powell to compensate for them both.

70% ToG is what you give rookies and veterans-at-the-end, like Pendles, Fyfe and Danger.

By comparison LDU, Simpkin and Powell are averaging 87, 83 and 82% this season.

In the absence of injuries, Wiphi needs to show he's hella fit and smash out some big performances.

Just want to revisit this.

Shiels now being preferred to him as an option.

The writing is well and truly on the wall.

Id now go as far as saying ill be shocked if he's at the club next year.
Philips would only replace George , Luke or Powell imho but you don’t want all 4 of them.

Philips will get his chance

IMO he will request a trade at end of year and I can't blame him. I also can't blame the selectors for not picking him. When we kept topping up on midfielders we were bound to lose a few.

I was almost certain it would be TP and one other. TT's departure managed to clear the logjam a little and TP took his chance with both hands. The music is stopping and Will is without a chair unfortunately.

If we're going to keep depth midfielders in the twos, you'd probably think Lazz is the one plus any youngsters we draft going forward (with Colby, Sheez, Cam able to pitch in if need be), price and expectations wise.

The only way I see him staying is if there's an injury, which I pray there not to be, and he comes in and performs so well that he's no longer in the bottom 2-3 in the logjam.

We will get pennies on the dollar for Will which is a shame.

Why would I death ride him? I love him as a player but I'm not gonna hope for an injury or s**t form for the current 22 so he gets a crack at it.

Im of the exact same feeling as this post.

Love him as a player. Have been heavily invested in his career so far, but hes a fair way off our best 22, and wont be at the club in 2025.

Those old highlights demonstrate how perfect he is for Northball - he’s really balanced always moving, drawing the tackler and freeing up a player to get it to in space.

I assume he’s been set a task in the VFL. Maybe it’s simply to build his game minutes and continue to perform strongly across four quarters.

This may be more in Wills best interest for development.
